Got the blind tone challenge right. The softer attack of the A2 magnets on the 50’s neck pickup for the cleans and the slightly hotter output of the 60’s bridge pickup for the distortion gave it away for me.
I'm right there with you. The larger neck profile feels so good to me. I'm on the hunt for a 59 reissue but will be looking at the 58s as well. How close are the pickups on your 50s vs the R8
@@gkott78 The R8 has the Custom Buckers in it and there imported , they are very close in tone but there’s just something about the Custom Buckers, the tone is really luscious and you get that feedback from the pickups if your going through a cranked tube amp, The neck is what sold me on the R8
50s for me due to the neck shape. I really found my happy place with the Slash signature. The pickups are hotter but can still pull off PAF tones and it has a beautiful full neck that feels just a little more rounded on the shoulders. I prefer the Slash over my 50s, which I prefer over the 60s model. Currently on the hunt for a 59 reissue. I'm a sucker for a good les paul
I have the 50 in cherry red. Great beauty. Burstbuckers are great Alnico 2 pickups; buttery blues secrets. The perfect mix would be a 60’ neck profil on my standard 50’ because of my small hands that are getting tired fastly with the chunky neck.
My Gibson Les Paul is a premium 4A maple top in tea burst 60s, the only difference to mine has Burst Bucker Pro pick-ups and no pickguard it is now 10 years old and still looks new 😎and I love it
Always had a vision of the Les Paul I wanted since I was kid and it always had a bound body with the keystone tuners. I wish I could remember who's Les Paul inspired that foundational image of 'what the Les Paul should be' in my memory🤘
Landon, so while I was watching your video I went to Sweetwater to look at weights of Les Pauls. And I noticed the option to add a plek for $300. Knowing that Gibson already does this I sent my Sweetwater rep some feedback. He downplayed it and I responded strongly and requested my comments be directed to management. This is either a mistake that should be corrected to keep from ripping people off or this is an ethics issue. It will be interesting to see how they respond.
this is on their Plek page. Should I Plek My New Guitar? The big question is: if you're purchasing a brand-new guitar, will it really benefit from being Plek'd? In almost all cases, the answer is a resounding "Yes!" Unless a guitar comes from the manufacturer already Plek'd, nearly all guitars will see a dramatic improvement in setup and playability after undergoing the Plek process at Sweetwater.
I have an Epiphone ES-345 limited edition and the specs say it has a 1960s slim taper neck. I know there are minor differences in such measurements between American made Gibsons and Chinese made Epiphones. There could even be a difference in a "60s neck" on a Les Paul and on a 335/345/355. But assuming that the 60s style neck is similar on that LP to my 345, it may be thinner than the 50s style neck but, it's not a "thin" neck. It has some beefiness to it and I like that. As for the difference between the tuners on these two LPs, I think the look of the tulip shaped knobs is "classic" Gibson. Granted the plastic knobs are more likely to break over time compared to the metal knobs on the Grovers.
Blueberry and cherry. My two favorite yogurt flavors. I could actually see the difference in necks. I like both really but i do prefer the way keystone tuners look.
I own both and the differences in the neck profiles aren't really a big deal to me. Yes I can tell the difference in the pickups, but it is slight and not worth worrying about in my opinion.
I love both, my 59 fat neck and 60s slim tapered neck LPs,I don't favor one over the other, but I'm sure glad I have both, only a slight difference in the pickups, maybe more bass response from the 59,no two PAF ever sound the same.
I guessed them right. My thoughts : 50’s w/ BB1 & BB2 : sounds a little more Bluesy 60’s w/ 61 BB’s : sounds a little clearer & more Rocking Both kick ass! I prefer the 50’s for the neck And the pickups.
@@kkrsnn5632 not sure. But I think the SG’s would be slimmer but just my guess. I’m Gibson not Epiphone. Epiphone seem to have similar necks all around.
To me it all just boils down to neck profile, I have a 60’s with the slim taper but as time goes by I keep having more appreciation for the thicker necks as well heh… I also have a LP Special which has that much thicker neck too though. Funny thing is I just always reach for my SG’s though, they are just so much more comfortable to play, at least to me. The bottom line is they’re all fantastic guitars and I love them, I always laugh when I see all the hate comments about Gibson in general. There’s just nothing quite like a nice set neck Gibson, that’s just my two cents from the peanut gallery though 🤙
I have borh & prefer the 60's neck. Weirdly, IRL I can hear the difference between the pickups. Were you playing A Design For Life by The Manic Street Preachers in the demo? It really, really sounded like it.
I'll never afford either but that's OK. I play them just don't own them. Fun is being a tec so I get to try them all. Recently tried a ibanez prestige and a new special edition floyd rose epiphone.
Y was brighter and more alive in your face than X on clean modes, which was smoother and more warmer. Y was more agressive, dirtier and has more mids in the distortion mode than X.
I'm really up for buying a les paul standard 60s next month, ive had the green light from the wife 😂, but I'm worrying about fret wear already. How long do gibson frets last. Someone school me about gibsons please.
As much as I love the folklore of a 50’s Les Paul burst, practically speaking the sound of the 60’s bb’s is more versatile imo. Although I’ve been appreciating fatter neck profiles lately, if I were buying one of these, my small hands are more at home with the slim taper

Even if it were two of the same model, they’d sound at least a tiny bit subtly different from one another. No two are exactly the same. Any of either that you might go and buy would most likely have it’s own similar, but slightly different sound. 🤷🏼♂️
I was able to distinguish between an orange sound and a blue sound. The orange LP sounded a bit more citrusy while the blue LP sounded like a blueberry jam. Easy test. 😁

the gibson was clearly better than the gibson.
I’m not sure about that, the Gibson was more articulate than the Gibson and clearly better looking.

Once I dropped the pickups down from factory settings which were very high, the 61 Burstbuckers are my favorite pickups. They have it all.
