Hello Ron.... Having spent most my working life in broadcasting TV as a studio tech/engineer i have to admit that i find the kind of material presented here far more interesting and entertaining than the general kind of junk TV programs being made today! I think it's because it shows stuff that as joe public we just never ever get to see happening or know anything about until now. When my last TV at a my home broke down i never replaced it. Now i use YT to find and follow excellent "video productions" like yours Ron.... Thanks a million!

Ron I would like to say a special thank you for your videos. A few years after leaving the Army I became an EMT and a volunteer on a fire department so of course I drove the fire trucks and ambulances I was also trained in vehicle extrication, ocean surf and high angle rope rescue. I was also a tow truck driver at the time on a small truck. I hear you talking about how much you love doing that job and I have to agree with you 100% it gets in your blood. Due to a back injury I can no longer do that type of work and I do miss it. BUT because of your videos I can sit back and watch what you are doing and can reflect on it, kind of through your eyes it is almost like being there myself so they really do mean a lot to me. I also know what you mean when you say that some calls stick with you and you wish you could forget them but I found that because of those memories that, that is the reason I did those jobs because you know you are helping your fellow man, woman, child or animal in their time of need. You get a sense of pride knowing you have helped them in some way. I also remember someones comment on one videos that the police and others were laughing and joking at a scene and it seemed inappropriate. That person doesn't understand the stress that goes with that job and having to see what we have seen and that it is a way to cope with it or I think we would all be insane. Again sometimes it would be nice to be able to remove some of those memories. God bless you and yours and may he protect everyone involved on those calls.

My experience with garbage trucks, from a slight distance thankfully.
I was working in a trailer repair shop with a spring shop attached. There was another guy who was hired the same day as me and they asked which one of us wanted to work in the spring shop. The other guy figured working on springs would be less to learn so he asked me to let him have it. I knew something he didn't, and that was the fact that they had the contract to work on city garbage trucks. The very first truck he worked on was a garbage truck and he torched the bolts off and started driving them out with a drift. On his second strike a big ball of maggots fell down the back of his head and down the back of his neck inside his coveralls. He came screaming out of the pit and ran into the locker room peeling his clothes off as he ran to the shower.
He got dressed and quit a bit later.

Brings back lots of memories of my time in the waste removal industry. Dumping at the transfer stations was better than slogging through mud at the landfill. Some driver would forget to tighten the turnbuckle after leaving the tip, and the compacted waste would push the tailgate open. No way to close it, so the load had to be dumped in the street, and you get bawled out by the foreman. I remember my garage had the older version of that body with the switches on the packer. The blade would stall because the body was near capacity, so we had to use a stick to manually trip the switch to “send it up.” But let me hush. Great video, thank you for posting, and God bless.

Ron, there's a small old saying over here from years gone by that says "where there's muck, there's brass", which translates as "where there's trash, there's money, you've just proved it to be a true saying
P.S. The way those 644 tyres were sliding about on that floor, I would have puckered up as well Ron

Right now me and my entire family are dealing with covid loss of smell and taste. That loss of sense might have worked nicely in your favor for this smelly job. Lololol. Great work on such a tedious job.

I worked 4-5 hours 2-3 days a week part time for about 6 months at a transfer station once sorting through recyclables. Smell'o'vision would have had a fatal error if they had it back then! :D Pet corpses are the worst to find in recyclables, they just moved the whole offending portion of the rubbish on the conveyor to the trash compactor they had at the rear and didn't even care about recycling any of the good stuff that got carried along with it. This was from incorrectly positioned bins that got tipped into the recycling part of the trash truck, the operator had a clamper arm so didn't care about rearranging it! back then they were running a split bin system. They abandoned that pretty quickly in favor of a yellow or green lid dual bin system.

40:25 The actual difference between self employed & "worker" , self employed does what is needed for the job, "worker" does as little as is needed.

Hey Ron - What a dirty job. All that hard work, and it all went into the trash! I bet it smelled terrible. Where was Talon? Hope he did not get lost in the heap.
Great work Ron - Thanks for the complete start to end video.

14:04 I bet that asphalt was packed in there. That's also the one Talon had to bend to get the chain connected to.
34:15 I'm glad I opted out of the Smell-A-Vision monitor when I built my new PC. lol
41:07 I always have a pucker feeling when I'm around heavy machinery.
44:03 That cut on your right forearm looks like it might have needed a few stitches.
"Who are you hiding from again?" Best answer would have been: "My wife." lol
How much did it weigh empty? Love the Boom Cam. Stay safe and God bless. :-)
