    Excellent, just put a DCC chip in a new loco and lost my way with the programming. This cured it and I now have a runner. Thank you...👍

    Perfect! Just bought a DCC loco from an auction and then realised, not being a new engine, I'd have no idea what the code is/was. Followed your advice and hey presto, changed the code and the loco works fine. Thank you!

      same here, this man basically ensured that I have gotten the full value of my PowerCab. With out John I would essentially have a £170 brick XD.

    Thanks for this invaluable video. I had an O Gauge Heljan Class 35 Hymek that for some unknown reason just would not respond,. I thought the ESU Sound Decoder had packed up, as several attempts were made to re-programme it. Following your video I was able to reset the decoder, then re-programmed it and it has now been restored to complete working order. Thanks very you have saved me the cost of a replacement decoder.

    Quick warning for sound models however! From what Ive heard generally factory fitted sound models indeed can be reset without issue like youve said, but sound chips with custom sounds might actually be wiped! Since as far as I know its a programming setting on a sound chip.
    I might be wrong though, and depending on who you ask the answer seems to vary, but at least with a sound chip I would recommend giving the manufacturer a call first.

    Hi John. Mark from the States. I found this video just in time. I got some locos out of storage and after a quit tune and lube I put them on the programming track and couldn't get them to respond on my NCE system. Did a reset per your video and they fired right up. Thanks

    Absolutely right John , learn to do this first especially with basic decoders like ive got .. After over 10 years in storage 2 out of 5 Bachmann locos worked . Hat to reset other 3 using power cab . I set them originally using the original early dynamis back in 2007 but for some reason the dynamis handset failed completely maybe an ' age thing so i invested in a NCE power cab from hattons. Many thanks 0:07

  • @newdurhamjunctionmodelrail9236

      If it can't read the CVs it may some dirty track or not having a load on the motor.

    Hi John, I've used your video many times to successfully reset various loco's, but I need some help. Got a new Graham Farish N gauge 2 car DMU with Zimo DCC and sound, interior lights work, sound works but no movement, retailer says do a decoder reset CV8-8. I've tried this several times, but each time after entering 8, screen says "can not read CV". Am I doing something wrong or do you think loco and decoder faulty, now getting a bit desperate. Cheers Dave

    I’m fairly new to models, and I have a dcc loco I just got from my dad who had it in storage for a while, but the reset still won’t make it work, do you have any idea why this is happening?

    • @MessingaboutwithModels
      @MessingaboutwithModels  Před 2 lety +1

      There are a couple of types of decoder where the reset CV isnt 8. If you can read the value thats stored in CV8, that should help identify who the manufacturer of the decoder is.

    Hello, is there anyway to do this with a bachmann ez command? I have 2 amtrak acs 64 locomotives. Supposedly they can run on dc or dcc, being the case I ran them on dc while u saved up for the ez command, one minor derailment and they never ran again, I thought I could use the ez command to do a reset but now am confused on how to do so. Please help if you can, thanks -John

    • @MessingaboutwithModels
      @MessingaboutwithModels  Před rokem +2

      No, the Bachmann EZ command is a very basic controller. Check out my video comparing the different ones I've used to see one that can.

    What is the appropriate low, mid and max voltage for a paragon Nscale decoder?

    • @MessingaboutwithModels
      @MessingaboutwithModels  Před rokem

      You need to set your voltages appropriate to the motor in the loco that you have the decoder fitted to. I've no experience of that particular type of decoder, but assuming it to be to the standard, changing the relevant CVs (CV2, CV6 and CV5) and testing out to see what works best would be a start.

    i was told to shout down the system then repower it after what you did

    • @MessingaboutwithModels
      @MessingaboutwithModels  Před 2 lety +2

      There is no need to do that, resetting the decoder is a normal process. I've never had to restart my DCC system after resetting my decoder, and this is the first I've heard of that.
