  • This week I'll show you how to easily kill the consist we made last video with the NCE Power Cab. I'll also be talking about and sharing the videos of the NCE Light-It DCC Decoders I installed several months ago in my UP bay window Cabooses.

Before you spend more money for a booster, take the others off the layout and try the one with problems on the track alone. Worth a try :)

Super cool to see a new video, Dan! It sounds like you have narrowed down that loco trouble pretty well. The way it affects other locos too is telling. Powercab comes stock with 23mp supply I think, so should handle 4 or 5 engines maybe, which yours usually does. Also since it happens at a certain rpm seems to indicate the motor.Hard to imagine the decoder affecting other locos at all. But a power drain would.

Thanks Tom, and thanks for the info you sent in messenger. I def want to get to the bottom of it and get it fixed. I hate having a loco that doesn’t want to play nice with the others. I’ll check out that info. 👍🏼

Great video Dan , I had the same problem with one of my locos it turned out to be the decoder it's self. I noticed a very small burn hole about the size of a pin head in the insulation. I replaced with a new decoder and runs fine

Thanks, Brian! I’ve been trying to find replacement decoders for MTH locomotives, but it’s difficult as they went out of business a couple years ago. The locomotive is still acting up, and I’m sure it’s the decoder.

An ammeter in series with your track connector would tell you the amp draw.
