    I like the idea of integrated lights on a city or commuter bike, but I don't want the added weight or complexity for my EMTB. I would rather add lights for the times that I need them instead of having them there all the time.

      adds failure points both mechanically and for the light and maintenance it's the worst idea ever, on older cars the bumpers were plastic and made to take a hit it cost very little to replace them, now headlights and plenty of other unnecessary things are integrated and if you bump your car it'll be 5000

    • @VenoXj1

      There has been bikes with integrated tail lights for a long time now, they are just super rare. I remember Haibike has had tail lights ages ago and Scott also had a bike with integrated tail lights. Lights in the front are however new and while I do like the idea, it really adds a new failing point to the bike, extra weight and possibly a light that is not living up to our expectations which you are stuck with.
      Tail lights, yes please. Lights in the front however, no thanks.

    Kevin from Wrensports up in the San Francisco area has been making these for awhile now.
    Used to have them on a fat bike I had years ago as well as my downhill/enduro bike.
    His also came with guards for the lower legs to keep scratches to a minimum.

    Vehicle regulations require that the lights can be run for a certain number of hours after the vehicle has been turned off. This means that as soon as you plug lights into your ebike, the software recognises this and reserves a portion of your battery capacity. This reduces your range, and is why I'll fit separate usb lights thanks very much.

    I always thought lights would work better if they aimed where you want to go. Lights on the fork for example. How come car lights turn with the wheels.

    • @MrMartinSchou
      @MrMartinSchou Před 26 dny +1

      Yes and no, because it's very much a personal preference.
      > How come car lights turn with the wheels.
      Cars generally do not have as wild movements of their front wheels as bicycles do. A better comparison is to motorcycle headlights. And with motorcycles they seem to be primarily mounted to move with the fork.
      The problem with bicycle lights that aim where you aim the wheels is that darkness you're now risk getting a strobe effect. Even on smooth roads, I find it quite annoying to have the lights move whenever I make small adjustments, especially when those small adjustments aren't following my head. head. Bicycles are subject to far more jittering motion than motorcycles and especially cars.
      To my mind, the ideal is two lights on the bike - one that follows the fork, one that follows the frame.

      “Headlight” did not originate from a car…hell it was not even a vehicle. “Headlight” originates from illumination in front of you, hence it being so widely used for anything that…illuminates in front of you.
