  • WHY IS GT7 SO IMPORTANT? - • Why Gran Turismo 7 is ...
    While we're working on our full review of Gran Turismo 7, I had the opportunity to do a direct comparison between gameplay on the standard PlayStation DualSense Controller and the Fanatec GT DD Pro.
    Other than being familiar with the track, I'm jumping into this with absolutely zero experience on the game with either the wheel or the controller, so let's see exactly what difference the wheel and pedals make over the controller!

      instead of the left stick on the controller for steering, try changing it to 'motion'... it will take a couple laps to get used to but it's so much more fun.. try it and see :)

      I need to do that!

    • @LOOKINVERTED
      @LOOKINVERTED Před 2 lety +37

      @@eL_K_Dee I can confirm that too. I'm paraplegic and a permanent wheelchair user and have always been a little frustrated that the more affordable commercial steering wheel products never seem to have the appropriate analogue levers on the wheel for throttle and brake placement (where you'd normally have the gear shifters so need an additional analogue set beside them). So since GT Sport I'd navigated to using the DualSense's motion capability for steering as an alternative. As 'eL K Dee' says it takes a bit of getting used to but once you've driven with it for a sustained period it feels pretty realistic and intuitive, far better than the tiny thumbstick which causes constant over-corrections (as he was demonstrating in this video through no fault of his own), only drawback being the lack of force feedback of course (though the haptic feedback certainly goes some way in "feeling" that car rotation - along with the adaptive triggers (which you don't get with affordable steering wheel pedals so they've something over those in that respect). Highly recommended, I'll never go back now, at least until I can afford a much more expensive setup from "SimAbility" - who.. 'makes hand controls for simulation racing gamers with disabilities who want to go beyond using gamepads but need alternatives to standard wheel-and-pedals setups' (as their advertising blurb suggests).

    • @eL_K_Dee
      @eL_K_Dee Před 2 lety +6

      @@LOOKINVERTED it's an inexpensive alternative to a rig and also if say you arew a casual gamer and dont just do racing and are at some moment too lazy to pull out the wheel and all, this motion steering alternative is a quick solution for more of a 'feel'.. This gyro tech has been around since the PS3.. but we barely see games use the hardware to it's fullest potential!

    • @LOOKINVERTED
      @LOOKINVERTED Před 2 lety +2

      @@eL_K_Dee Absolutely, don't disagree really, thankfully these motion sensing controllers are becoming utilised and incorporated more & more despite them being in circulation for a while and already within a lot of basic tech. I suppose we ultimately all want choices and options don't we, solutions that cater for varying functions and abilities and that to be considered when programming. It's an exciting time for tech with these innovations in gaming (shame the world's turned to shit with all the collateral damage such as the semi-conductor shortage otherwise everyone could get involved).
      I'm thankful I managed to obtain a PS5, particularly with the adaptive triggers - absolutely love those, though granted you can use the motion thingamajig on PS4. The SimAbility route I mentioned was more about being one of my ultimate wish lists since until recently I couldn't enjoy racing games properly at all before now. To be fair, you're right, it's not as high up on my list as it was.

    I'm pretty sure most of us begin our SIM racing experience on gran Turismo at some point, especially the older gens like me pushing 50. I'm having an absolute blast on GT7, no it's not iRacing or ACC but in alot of ways it's better the gt reminds us of the fun we had playing racing games, it has enough realism to be challenging and enough diversity for unadulterated fun. Oh last night I setup a race on nordschleife 1 hr long GT3 cars starting at dusk then into full darkness, it was absolutely beautiful.

The pure driving experience is pretty damn good, although I prefer ACC/AC/AMS2 in terms of pure driving. But the amount of details on the wide variety on cars, the customization options and the "career/cafe" mode just makes the game so damn fun.

    Quick note on Motion Control. I did try it but have never gotten along with it. I find it really disorienting with no friction or force feedback. It’s always been that way for me ever since Mario Kart on Wii. I honestly figured most people preferred using the thumb stick for steering but apparently there’s plenty of people who prefer using motion.

    I'm a 40 something guy who played racing games (especially Gran Turismo) for years with a controller and always did pretty well. When GT Sport came out I decided to finally treat myself to a G29 wheel and pedals. It was definitely a game changer. I think with a controller I'd be in the mid area of A rated driver. With the wheel I'm in the low A+ rating. I do still use the controller for single player mode, but when I race online and want to be as fast as possible, my wheel is a MUST. I'd love to upgrade to a Fanatec but I just don't know if I can justify spending nearly £1000 on one.

    This is one of those situations where if you have the setup and money to get both the wheels and pedals, you should definitely go for it. The level of immersion exponentially grows once you play a racing game like this. I've always played on a controller due to not having a proper setup but i knew that once GT7 came out, i was going to do it right. No regrets. I was pretty good on controller and I'm even faster on my full wheel/pedal/shifter setup since you can make minor corrections that are not simply possible using a thumbstick or the triggers on a controller. Currently all gold with all assists off/hard AI. 15 books in and the first 2 licenses all gold. NGL though...the last license test with the supra for A was tough. Barely squeezed gold on that one :D

The hesitation is I know the second it comes in I am sure they will release the CSW DD which will probably take out the DD1. My theory is I bet they are waiting to get the QR2 complete to finalize a CSW DD product. I use a drivehub to use my CSW 2.5 on PS5 and I feel like I am missing out on some functionality even though the basics are pretty much covered. Was gonna say this too. I got a wheel because I am utterly worthless with controllers (no pressure sensitivity with gas/brake, easy to over and understeer with a joystick, no real feedback)… but of course I get my wheel for GT7, and realize I can use motion control for GT7 before the wheel comes in- and it feels great.
      Still prefer the wheel but I could have easily been cool using just motion control if I’d realized before I spent like $700 on a wheel and frame

    Great vid as always! I’ve had a wheel for a week (never used one prior) and I went back to the controller for a few laps lastnight and I’m still considerably faster on a controller.. I’m ok with this though, the thought of mastering a wheel and being completely immersed is way more important than being fast for me personally right now.. I also know that given more time I will at faster and more consistent with the wheel!

      I played most of the GT series with a controller. Bought a wheel for GT5 but I was way faster with controller. I began to play GT sport at release with controller and stop playing it for a few years after finishing the solo part. A few months ago I decided to buy a g29 to play VR mode and master it before GT7's release. I mostly played time trials many hours a day and couldn't beat my controller times for almost a week. Within the next two weeks I beat all the online trophies and finally got the plat.
      GT has always been great with controllers and I think the haptic vibrations of the dualsense are a great addition and feel really good, but when you'll get used to the wheel you will probably have a hard time moving back to controller ;)
      And by the way, Gt sport's VR mode is absolutely mind blowing with a wheel! Hope they will do something with GT7 and PSVR2 🤩

    • @AlbertoFortuny
      @AlbertoFortuny Před 2 lety +1

      @@rdb223 Yeah the resolution (4K) does not change, only HDR is turned off. It will be better for video capture and for the most amount of people to see the video normally.
      HDR is changing how the color gets reported to the screen from the source console or PC. It will look fine if you have an HDR display since it knows how to interpret that signal. But this breaks down when you capture that output and then upload it to CZcams where you might not be watching the video on an HDR capable display. I believe there is a way to upload HDR video to CZcams but it would still look washed out if you are viewing it on a non-HDR display.

    Great video. I am playing GT7 on PS5 with the dual sense controller, but I also am playing the game on my PS4 Pro using my Accuforce direct drive wheel and HE pedals via the GIMX software. I have been surprised at how much I am enjoying GT7 with the dual sense, it provides so much more feedback than any other racing game I have played using a controller. Of course the Accuforce is much more immersive, but it is actually missing some feedback, for example vibration from curbs. Also, I find the graphics on PS4 Pro to be a significant step down, including FPS drops which break immersion. And the load times are much slower on PS4 Pro, on PS5 they are almost instantaneous, which is great.

    I have a question about the dd pro. Is the base/wheel supposed to vibrate pretty hard when you understeer/oversteer? Whenever I’m racing and taking a corner it vibrates if I put a little too much steering angle or if the car isn’t able to turn anymore but I still try and turn it it vibrates. It’s noticeable when I do hairpins or 90 degree turns. I’m new to DD wheels so I have no idea.
