    This torque issue is something marketing shoves in our minds... a mkt war... we have now bases with 25nm of torque.
    A REAL CAR usually have a max torque in it's wheels of 7nm. Some cars have more, up to 12nm.
    8nm is perfect. It's like a real car.
    Also, people fell happy with stuff like G29 and similar (much cheaper, ok), some of these entry wheels are well below 1nm of torque, like 0.3nm. And most people fells it like very good torque. 5 is a LOT.

    Ended up ordering one in part due to your video. Coming from a T300 and a T150 before that with TLCM pedals.
    After an evening with it I'm surprised its as big of a jump as it is from the T300. Across the board from build quality to the feedback you get from Gran Turismo 7. Nice surprise is how absolutely quiet it is.
    The biggest surprise for me? I actually love the pedals. I've got the load cell coming next month but could easily survive without it. These pedals are far better than the cheap stuff you get from Thrustmaster (maybe the TGT pedals are better but my buddy with the TGT is dieing to take my TLCMs off my hands which were a huge upgrade over my other Thrustmaster pedals that I could now easily live without with the CSL pedals sans the load cell kit).
    I'll note for anyone looking at this I went straight for the 8nm boost kit. I can't speak to anything about the 5nm, I just went all in though I did lose the $20 discount ordering the load cell separately so everything else would ship immediately.
    If you're thinking about it and can afford it do it, you won't regret it but probably go for the boost kit out the gate, that seems to be the consensus from just about everyone.

    my sim racing journey has gone like this: g29, t300, TGT, csw v2.5, DD1, simucube 2 pro... csl dd pro 8nm.
    i spent so much money buying gear for the wrong reasons, i wanted the best because i thought it would feel better and make me a better driver but the sacrifice i made in doing so was not being able to play the games i wanted to play, was all well and good having a simucube 2 pro but i always knew the day would come when a game like GT7 drops and i wont be using the simucube 2 pro and id have to pretend i didn't want to play GT7 anyway because i was a ''real sim racer''
    truth was, i did want to play it and i didn't give two shits about being a hardcore sim racer so i sold the simucube and ordered a csl dd pro, im happier now knowing im racing for the right reasons, because i actually am playing the game i want to play and not pretending i never wanted to anyway. what a crazy hobby though.
    thing is, now i have to go to bed and ask myself did i mean what i just said or do i wish i had kept the simucube really.

      I'm on the same journey. G29, t300, then T3PA pedals, then Ferrari rim, then sparco 33cm rally rim. Then on Friday was TGT2 servo base and T-LCM pedals. I'm sure I'm done now. The TGT is plenty smooth and strong, the transducer is awesome for interpreting under and oversteer and the loadcell pedals are awesome.

      I borrowed a G29 from a friend and bought a Playseat challenge. I really enjoy it with GT7. Would you say it is worth getting the GT DD Pro? Is it that much better if I mainly play GT7?

    • @asheleydavies
      @asheleydavies Před 2 lety +6

      @@Alex-HD the G29 honestly feels like a toy compared to something like the thrusmaster T300 with a good rim like the Ferrari alcantara or sparco. The jump to DD will be insanely impressive. But it's quite a commitment, because soon you'll want the 8nm power system, then some decent loadcell pedals, shifter, hand break. And then also a bigger wheel rim. All depends on how seriously you're going to take the hobby. I have the TGT2 wheelbase with a big sparco wheel, it's amazing, even compared with the t300. I'll definitely upgrade to a thrusmaster DD base when it's available, and keep all my accessories.

It eventually hurt my weak ass wrists with too much use because it was so much damn fun playing Dirt Rally 2.0 (still the best rally game) and a bunch of other games. The thing that got me about this bundle, well the upgraded pedals and 8nm version, was that you can get the same LC pedals, an 8nm DD1, and the McLaren wheel for less. I was told you are essentially paying for PS compatibility so as a pc user I think it is better to buy the components individually.

    • @jed1mstr
      @jed1mstr Před 2 lety +3

      I mean, that's the point of this isn't it? It's specifically made/targetted for Gran Turismo on the Playstation with PC compatibility as a side feature. If you just need one for the PC, Fanatec as you stated has other offerings at a better price point. With that context, this is the best Playstation compatible wheel bundle out there. If you're purely a PC user, why are you even looking at this then?

    • @Meylan191083
      @Meylan191083 Před 2 lety

      @@jed1mstr Fanatec's website is not promoting this as a Playstation-specific bundle. The premium package is at the top of their bundle section and says 'PC. XBox Ready. PS' in that order, left to right. That looks like they are aiming to sell this to people who use PC or XBox, not just PS users.
      Fanatec has a very large set of wheels and the prices of their entry-level stuff has traditionally been a fair bit higher than Logitech (quality reasons obviously) and Thrustmaster. Both of these would likely put off people who do not have a lot of knowledge and/or limited budgets.
      Bundles as a general rule offer a more affordable package than putting together a bespoke one choosing the individual components. This is normally because the bundle utilises cheaper stuff. They attract people with limited knowledge and limited budgets.
      This bundle is more expensive, albeit not by much, than the equivalent wheelbase, pedals, and wheel on the cheaper end of the scale.
      That, to me, is a little bit naughty. If they were marketing it on their website predominantly for PS users and/or Gran Turismo enthusiasts that would be fine. But they are not. In point of fact the only complete bundles in that section are the various GT DD Pro ones.

    • @jed1mstr
      @jed1mstr Před 2 lety +1

      @@Meylan191083 How can you NOT think that the GT (Gran Turismo) DD Pro which is the officially licensed Playstation wheel for Gran Turismo (again it's in the name) that was also designed in conjunction with Polyphony Digital, the Developers of Gran Turismo which is a Playstation exclusive title, isn't a product primarily marketed to Playstation users? It's even in the first description text: "Introducing the official Direct Drive Wheel for Gran Turismo®. Combining PlayStation®5 console performance with FANATEC® Direct Drive technology for the smoothest and most dynamic force feedback sensations." Also Playstation buttons? The order of the compatibility labels (PC, XBox Read, PS) is purely a general website thing with shared assets and has nothing to do with how this Playstion specific licensed peripheral is marketed.

    • @Meylan191083
      @Meylan191083 Před 2 lety

      @@jed1mstr The absence of any other bundle.
      Yes if you click on the description it is full of Gran Turismo and Playstation references. Hardly surprising. But the lack of any other bundle on that page suggests that Fanatec are attempting to sell this to a much wider range of users and doing so in what, to me, is a sneaky way.
      A less experienced PC user will gravitate to the bundle page (which is why it is there), see that this is PC compatible as well and think it is a great deal. I know this, because I nearly got caught out by it. The wheel itself did not interest me but the loadcell pedals, and direct drive wheelbase did, to the point where I would have accepted a wheel I wasn't particularly into as a compromise way to get the other parts cheaply.
      I only stumbled onto the fact that it is actually MORE expensive when I put together a spreadsheet of the costs with a view to justifying the intended purchase to my girlfriend on the basis that as a bundle it is cheaper than buying the individual components.

    Just wondering: you are used to high level DD wheels. so to you the differnece in force is very noticeable and will leave you wanting vor more very very quick. For me however, using a T300 it feels like I will have a longer period that it will satisfy me, so to me it really makes sense to start with this base and slowly upgrade, especially because of budget reasons. In the end I will have spend maybe a little more, but the investment is spread out over a longer period of time, so it is not a big hit on my day to day spending.

      I just got my DD Pro coming from a T300 and its a huge upgrade. I went straight for the 8nm boost kit. Would definitely recommend it but if you couldn't afford it I could easily see you still finding the 5nm probably a big upgrade. Personally I'm finding the 8nm to be really strong even on just a 2 sensitivity in GT7. Its kind of hard for me to wrap my head around there being wheels that are 2-3x stronger. I would still suggest going straight for the boost kit out the gate but if you can't you can't and you're still going to find this a big upgrade over the T300. Evening having TLCM pedals, which was my one hang-up going this route since the load cell kit can't ship until next month, I'm surprised by how good the regular pedals feel.

    I had my standalone DD Pro (8Nm), CSL Pedals LC and CSL WRC rim delivered a few days ago. Wow. It's in a different league to my T300 setup.
    I ignored the base GT bundle as it lacked the LC pedal, lacked the 8Nm power, and also I don't think that much of the official GT rim. I didn't like the Thrustmaster GTS version either.

      @@gladtidings3 It's better - much better. Smoother and much quieter. It just feels more immersive and can maintain 100% FFB all of the time unlike the T300 which always ends up in reduced power modes due to overheating.
      The speed of a DD wheelbase in comparison to something like the T300 makes also it easier to catch slides etc meaning you get to keep it on the track more of the time.

      I'm not a simracer, but I'm looking at a second hand set in the future. I have bus/truck sim setup complete with dashboard and have been using a heavily modified G27 for it. It works, but I have to help it autocalibrate because there's a truck wheel on it which the G27 can't move quickly enough all on it's own.
      I got it for free so I definitely can't complain about that, but I got it solely because a colleague asked me to check it out because it suffered center-drift in games (encoder disc was fractured in like 10 places and slipped as a result, I was surprised it was still on the motor axle actually).
      It turned out to have more than just a broken encoder disc and suffered a massive crack in the gear and steering axle housing, along with a broken encoder sensor PCB that had 2 cracks running through some traces.
      The broken encoder disc and it's sensor PCB were both solved with some DIY'ing, but the crack in the housing has not been.
      Because of the heavy truck wheel that is on the G27 (separated from a direct connection by having it rest on an old bicycle headset) it is big, very heavy and difficult to calibrate because of the angle the G27 sits at (Made some DIY brackets that angled the wheel upwards on the piece of wood it sits on so the connection is as straight as possible.
      Recently I noticed that with every time the truck wheel hits the endstop during autocalibration (I modified the rotational range, it is capable of about 2290 degrees of rotation lock to lock) the crack in the gear and axle case widens for a short moment due to the stresses on it which made me decide to look for a good second hand offer.
      So for me it's definitely not about setting new records, it's mostly all about solving some very physical, real-world problems with my current setup :P .
      I am interested to see though how it holds up with the truck wheel.

      It does seem weird at first look, but this is actually the least expensive direct drive option on the market, and it seems that comes with some sacrifices in the peripherals. Margins are likely pretty thin on this, because they're packing a lot of performance and high-end build into an affordable unit, so instead of sacrificing performance of the wheel itself by reducing quality there, you get a base unit that's rock-solid and high-performing along with a serviceable option in the pedals that can later be upgraded if you desire. I think it makes sense to keep the quality high in the core, most expensive part of the package and allow for customization in the more easily upgraded parts.
