- Something hanging low underneath AMTK 90 tripped the defect detector near Sanborn Road in East Kingston, NH on December 30, 2020.
At around 0:37 you can hear the cone of the defect detector being struck by the passing train. Defect detector audio also included. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I have no idea where all these views are coming from, but thank you for the support!
all hail the alighty algorithm!
Absolutely! Got yourself a new sub!!!
Well, it's awesome so.......
People like trains
I subscribed a while back. Hmmm. Let’s see. Reasonable length video, interesting content, filmed at a safe distance and no distracting music. Could be it’s a good video hehehe. Seriously though, thanks for posting.
The horn in the beginning though. That sounded so awesome! Great catch!!!
Slow the speed to .25. Really wild.
It Is a great sound !! What you know the actual horn model# or specific name? Thanks.
@@mongolikechewchew2475 Yes, the Airfart Foamalert LOL5LA
@@ImpyLane I want 1 installed on my truck!
The Downeaster is a rare great success story for Amtrak.
Indeed
A group salute to Wayne Davis, the Southern Maine businessman who made this event possible despite the naysayers, and the political resistance.
That was quite the strange transmission. The train crew sounded as confused as I was.
"You have a defect."
uh... yes... and... ?
"Roger Brian, the defect detector had to, uh, finish his story" LOL
"Amtrak Train 684, it says we got--we got hit with a defect..."
Interesting! I've always heard the defect detectors in other videos but had never heard what an actual defect sounded like when detected.
*bonk*
You can hear it that hit the detector.. Dam
Is that the sound I hear at 0:38?
@@DanknDerpyGamer Yes
First time I've heard a defect caught.
As if the defect hit the train not the detector.
That detector should have sent an “Awesome Horn Detected - Rock On” notice…
*dragging equipment near axle 2*
*temperature 29*
Great job detector! You detected the cold!
Gilford Rail System MP: 264.1
Defects: 1
Dragging Equipment - Axle 2
Temp.: 29°F
Dragging equipment on axle 2 on the locomotive going forward, correct?
Yes
Guilford
The next time somebody hits me, I think I'll tell them they have a defect!
Looks like the air tank was hanging a little low.
It definatly is hanging lower than Normal. The forward part of that tank always hangs lower than the rear but never that low.
I don’t know why but with the scenery and the sound of the detector and some other things make it seem like a horror scene.
I used to rail fan this area when I lived In Brentwood
I haven't seen this kind of Amtrak over five years man, wow
Thats neat! Good intel!
the defect will be very difficult to see. it is near axle 2, which is in the middle of the front truck.
For those who are wondering, the dragging equipment hits the detector at 0:38
The dragging equipment can be seen if you pause the video right when the first engine is about to cross the road, look towards the from of the engine right infront of the wheels
It looks like a metal plate what could that be
That was the defect detector
nah the dd fr said me personally i wouldnt take that disrespect
Interesting. Nice video!
Great video! Defect is on the locomotive
*Love the thumping and rumble of thoze Diesels...*
I was near that location when I was going to Maine for my vacation trip, and I was railfanning too, I saw an Amtrak and a Pan Am
Great sound! So what we are looking for is the tank about 2/3 of the way back on the power unit that seems to be almost on the rail?
I'm not really sure myself, but that seems to be the general consensus
how big of a flat wheel does a passenger car have to have before it is pulled from service?
Liked 👍🏻 and subscribed! Great catch!
Good catch.
Nice catch 👍
Recommend to me by YT, fascinating
Pretty catch nice video
New sub today, keep up the good work!
The tank at the bottom of the first train car is low. You can hear the tank triggering the detector at 0:38.
Based on the timing of the horn and the sound of the trip, you can deduce that the defect was in fact on the first truck of the leading loco; i.e: axle two. Cool. 😎
that strike surely is something you never want to hear
That eerie silence tho
Always wondered what it sounded like when a detector found a defect.
At ( 0:38 ) did you hear an object hit something? That might be the equipment hitting the detector.
That’s what it is.
The flappers yes
I live less than 3 miles from that track what frequency are the detectors on just curious, thanks.
161.16 for dispatch and 161.52 for road
@@rockinghamrailvids thanks appreciate it
Slightly unrelated, but the distant horn at 1:33 sounds super cool!
they just sabotaged the smoke detector in the toilet!
Not again!
The detector sounds passive aggressive on its first transmission. “You a defect! But I’m not going to tell you what it is. So there!”
as someone used to Amtrak on the NEC sounds, you do hear that diesel ahead of time. The NE regional and Acela Express are practically silent until they are there.
Guessing since the detector tripped they will need to do a walk around at the next station or do they stop the train immediately?
If I remember correctly they did a walk around at a crossing in Newton? So not far
I’m glad this video has 206 likes, but I’m surprised those who liked didn’t subscribe! They should remember to do that
I'm not gonna go after people for not subscribing lol. I'm still surprised how the CZcams Algorithm decided to give this video its blessing
Subscribing means Google is going to start tracking every second of your life. Liking a video is private.
What scanner are you using? Sounds very clear! Good video
Its a Baofeng uv-5r actually, which is a rather cheap scanner. It just sounds so clear because the defect detector was transmitting so close to it
@@rockinghamrailvids I have the same one
@@aircraftsandtrains2309Same. It's very clear.
Gillford rail system is that a shortline
Its actually Pan Am Railways, Guilford Rail Systems was the company's old name
Does 90 have a hybrid k5la?
All P42DCs on Amtrak's roster come pre equipped with K5LAs, but I'm not sure if its a hybrid or not.
@@rockinghamrailvids ok sounds like it
Yes it is a hybrid 7th generation K5LAXR5 that is air, gas, AND electric powered fweeeeeeeeeeeee
@@ImpyLane LOL
Somebody might want to work on those Crossing lights, look like they're losing power
The crossing does too!
The LED Lights fade in and out because of the frame rate of the camera, which is why sometimes you get that strobe light 💡 effect or in this case the fading effect
@@SuperDuckman24 ok
Yeah the crossing lights don't actually fade out its a camera glitch
@@SuperDuckman24 Here's a science video explaining what causes that effect (and why it's dangerous for self-driving cars). czcams.com/video/c6NFuJMfmYU/video.html
They’re WCH Clear LEDs just a camera glitch that happens on certain LEDs like these
So does anyone know what was dragging on the lead p42?
I'm not sure myself, but a lot of people in this comment section have pointed out how the air tank in the middle of the train was hanging lower than it should...
Ah ain't seenothin' dragin' . What was the problem?
I'm not really sure what was dragging myself, but other people in this comment section noticed the air tank in the middle of AMTK 90 was hanging lower than it should of be.
Its looks like the front of the trains "bumper" is very low
They have snow plows on them for winter
0:42 that tank does not look right.
Those red lights keep fading...
They aren't actually fading, its a weird camera effect that happens with some kinds of LED lights, these RR crossings included...
It would’ve been even better if the detector could produce a recording that said would you stop hitting me on the top of my head this is getting old already fix that crap ha ha Ha ha ha
This defect detector was originally installed to replace a faulty detector on Powder Mill Road (within a mile of the recording location), and I guess Pan Am had to use an old one for whatever reason
