I personally am a huge fan of Drew's voice, how it can go from rock and roll to legit musical theatre (sometimes within the same song). But the biggest thing I love about him is his commitment and his passion. He gives it 400 percent no matter what, and as an actor I appreciate that enormously. He gives tremendous thought to the preparation and he's always acting, always involved with the scene, and that's why I think he's incredible.
Annas is meant to be a lyric tenor - there aren't enough of us in the world, so they rarely get cast, but there's meant to be a marked difference between him and Caiaphus..
Technically the exact voice type written for the role is defined by the composer is "countertenor" or "falsetist", which is correctly cased in the famous 73 film version for exemple but I agree that that does not mean any quality of voice... :-)
Why do I like the chase coreography so much? XD Also am I the only one who now sees Annas as a comedic villian sidekick? (and a gay one at that XD) Though at 2:31 he looks kinda like a vulture, so he's cool XD
You say he didn't care he was selling out his savior: that's cuz he didn't feel like he was selling him out..... he really did believe he was doing the right thing at the time. If you see this actor singing ' Judas' death' you'll find he' s a good actor.
love Caiaphas expression at 0:29 also, Drew is just amazing. I would love to see him as Luceni in Elisabeth, he would fit sooooo well!!! Or as Eljoras in LesMis... Such an awesome actor and singer. One of my favourites!
There’s plenty of footage of him as Enjolras during the 2006 Broadway revival(he was the original understudy for Enjorlras in this production, while he regularly played a factory worker, the innkeeper who kicks Valjean out of his in during the prologue, and as Grantaire!)(he was also a replacement for Valjean and Javert too!). m.czcams.com/video/4VMfcggjyJA/video.html I thought he was Rudolf at one point in one of the early productions of Elizabeth(though he most certainly was Rudolf in the Rudolf’s Affaire Mayerling), but probably not(though he certainly has played both Rudolf and Der Tod in concert performances!). I agree he’s a GREAT actor, as my forever favorite performance of his is as Quasimodo in Disney’s Der Glockner Von Notre Dame(the original 1999 German stage production of Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame), which is where I myself first heard of him, and I didn’t even know he was from the US either(my next favorite just recently became his Jesus in the 2005 concert of Jesus Christ Superstar)! :) It be interesting to see his take on Lucchini, but I say it’s a hell of a feet to March into Serkan’s territory(even if Serkan has only played Judas to Drew’s Jesus in 2005 so far)!
Drew is NOT out of tune or shit..... He is generally considered to be one of the BEST Judas'. If you are not partial to his singing style for some odd reason or whatever it is that turned you off of him I dare you to watch this again and see all the internal work going on in his acting and his beautiful lyric and free voice that goes all the way into his top notes!
I think he simply means that falsetto is all Drew Sarich can do, because his real range would break the Earth in half. It's just so unreal that it doesn't SOUND like it's human falsetto. Drew's falsetto is Pavarotti's belt.
It's an underground production, so you won't really be able to find it anywhere else than here on CZcams unless you meet someone who happen to have a copy of it.
@PotO2004Phantom Our High School didn't even have a theater group, most of the productions would've been postponed until the actors / players made bail for possession of weed !! I've seen some good non - professional productions like Godspell at our college theater. I want to see Les Mis some time. I've only seen a few scenes.
Ah. (I must've watched this video 4 times before I realized that it was, in fact, a guy singing. I thought it was a woman, who sounded a lot like my grandmother. o.O lol)
he sings jesus in vienna every few years around easter it seems; they have like, two nights of jcss each year somehow. no idea whether he'll sing there next easter though, sorry! =/ (here's hoping!)
@PotO2004Phantom If my Muse cooperates, & I start writing stories again, maybe I could get something turned into a script. My Muse goes on too many breaks !!!
He didn't hold the end long enough, and I never have like the more recent change of Caiaphas skipping over Annas when he says, 'a fee, a fee, a fee nothing more." I'd rather have Annas interjecting with "a fee?" with the inflection almost a question to Caiaphas. Although his timing may be slightly off and he is not deep enough, I applaud his efforts. He has a great costume and the overall performance was superb.
@PotO2004Phantom That sounds like trying to juggle watermelons. I could never handle a play, soccer, etc., maybe when I was 10 - 15 years younger..... ;-) I dated this girl who was into College theater & it seemed to consume EVERY WAKING MOMENT of her life around then.
...Maybe I just don't know much about the show(having never seen the whole show, just youtube videos, but idk if that really explains it or not), but are the 'exceedinly feminine' guards of any significance? Or are they just...there? With no real point? Thanks.
I thought it was a woman too. I was looking all over the stage for one, but couldn't find her. I was shocked to find it was a man! He sounds really good, though.
He seems to focused on showing what a good singer he is (and he IS) than to reflect the real feelings Judas should be feeling in this situations. He misses completely the character
If anyone wants any of this.. I have all of this show to send. AUDIO only and I also have the one from Vienna. Where he plays Jesus. (And of course I won't make you pay! That' rude!:) )
Oh my god shut up both annas and Judas have amazing voices that are so rare and hard to find, listen to the notes they can hit! Also drew is acting maybe you should look at the manurisms he is using! He's trying to convince them not to kill jesus what more could he do!?!
Not bad! I've heard better Caiaphases, and I'm not entirely convinced that Annas ISN'T a woman with some sort of faux-man chest on, but it's quite good, on the whole. Any chance we'll be seeing "This Jesus Must Die" up sometime soon?
The guy who plays Judas sings Heaven on Their Minds quite well, but he doesn't do this song with the passion needed. Even so, his voice is very powerful, even more so than Carl Anderson, but there's something lacking in both performances. It's one thing to write, and another thing to storytell.
Annas sounds like a woman... holy crap..... Sarich is soo awesome... Post that video of him in jekyll and hyde..... I bet he walked in and auditioned and they were like... holy crap! lol
I personally am a huge fan of Drew's voice, how it can go from rock and roll to legit musical theatre (sometimes within the same song). Apparently to maintain their authority, they must flip their capes. It's like a power-up.
this judas though oh my lord
Yeah drew is the goat

i dont see an issue with this annas
This was the best Annas I've seen.
He's a worldy man and wise. You can tell from the nipple tape.
Drew Sarich does such a BRILLIANT job here, keeping the pace up while getting all the emotion across about the character so easily.
Why do I like the chase coreography so much? XD
Also am I the only one who now sees Annas as a comedic villian sidekick? (and a gay one at that XD)
Though at 2:31 he looks kinda like a vulture, so he's cool XD

Carl Anderson / Drew Sarich two unbelievable Judas's full of emotion, and enthusiasim n hav a gr8 voice =)
love Caiaphas expression at 0:29

Wonderful! Drew can really rock it. Incredible.
Dear Annas:
Christina Aguilera called. She wants her fan back.
Still love this.
Notice almost everyone loves Drew
How is it possible to not love Drew?)
2000 the best of all
The fan at 0:51 is cracking me up! My new favorite prop...
Fabuloso!!! gran presentación todos los actores geniales .me gustaría que vinieran a España para poder ir a verlo.
Amazing cast
This is GOOD! Love it!
Drew is NOT out of tune or shit..... He is generally considered to be one of the BEST Judas'. intresting tune variation I really like it he's got a great voice
this is awesome! :)
Drew is my hero. I think Annas is brilliant here though XD! haha sheer brilliance.
The best Annas and Caiaphas are the ones from the 73 movie. Or maybe Caiaphas from 1996 London show. Sarich is a great Judas.
Annas of 76 it sucks The best annas is that of the 2000 film
OMG I LOVE IT!
so.... the fact that he was born as a countertenor is bothering you?
Watch the two movies, especially the one from 1973. Annas always has a really high, kind of girly voice.
I love Drew, he is amazing!!! So cute too! :)
hes amazing
I think he simply means that falsetto is all Drew Sarich can do, because his real range would break the Earth in half. It's just so unreal that it doesn't SOUND like it's human falsetto. Drew's falsetto is Pavarotti's belt.
i like the instrumentation
SWIRLY CAPES OF DEATH!
...sorry, had to do it xD
I could drop a comment about how superspeciall awsome Drew is, but that's just being obvious.
This is one of the best versions of this scene! And with Drew as Judas, I dare to claim that this is THE best! Brilliant!
Sweet! I need to get myself a ticket!
that's Drew Sarich as Judas...and he is FANTASTIC
I don't know what you're passing, but holy crap this Judas is friggin awesome and I want a piece of that XD
Amazing Judas!!!
He Got skills, BRAVO!
Do you have "this Jesus Must die" from this production? I really like the Ciaphas and Annas in this and would love to see it!
Where can I find a copy of this video recording? It's amazing, and the rest hasn't been uploaded to youtube yet
@PotO2004Phantom
He delivers ! I just saw a version that would have Carl Anderson spinning in his grave.
Yeah the new Caiaphas was incredible. AWesome voice and look.
Drew is absolutely amazing as Judas. There’s nothing else I can say.
saw drew sarich live as jesus like... two days ago. amazing
Hannas is amazing
It's an underground production, so you won't really be able to find it anywhere else than here on CZcams unless you meet someone who happen to have a copy of it.
allright i will go look at it
holy shit
wow
Please, please, please tell me where I can find a whole video recording of this
@PotO2004Phantom
Our High School didn't even have a theater group, most of the productions would've been postponed until the actors / players made bail for possession of weed !!
I've seen some good non - professional productions like Godspell at our college theater. I want to see Les Mis some time. I've only seen a few scenes.
That's true..:)
wow is right... :) ..........
I like the odd way Annas is dressed haha
It's an actual show :)
Ah. (I must've watched this video 4 times before I realized that it was, in fact, a guy singing. I thought it was a woman, who sounded a lot like my grandmother. o.O lol)
Gladly! It's much faster than the Les Miz ones...
@AngelinHell888 Thanks for your lovely opinion. No I didn't know... In my language it's very different as in english...
Is there a video of this entire production anywhere?
where was this m8, love to see him live as Judas..
judas' voice is flawless, but too smooth for this part. man the band is rockin'!
na na na na na na na na batman! lol!
@thestar13 it's the beginning of JCS Amstetten 3/12
he sings jesus in vienna every few years around easter it seems; they have like, two nights of jcss each year somehow.
no idea whether he'll sing there next easter though, sorry! =/ (here's hoping!)
Were doin at the moment and in our rehersals our annas keeps laughing and he has been threatened with a fan!!Maybe this is the reason?!?!
Al ot better than Jerome's crawling... though I love him too. :p
I adore his own interpretation of the way of singing!
thank you for posting this but I still can't annas is a man or a woman
@PotO2004Phantom
If my Muse cooperates, & I start writing stories again, maybe I could get something turned into a script. My Muse goes on too many breaks !!!
This is not a tour, it's a summer production. Who was the 03 Judas?
Utterly amazing better than Tony Vincent in my eyes all round i mean not just in JCS :)
Caiaphas isn't that low.. :p
It's just a normal bass lol
xD
He's supposed to sound like that.
Annas is not a woman :) The guy's name is Eric Minsk.
Honestly, what an ugly woman that would have been :)
He didn't hold the end long enough, and I never have like the more recent change of Caiaphas skipping over Annas when he says, 'a fee, a fee, a fee nothing more."
I'd rather have Annas interjecting with "a fee?" with the inflection almost a question to Caiaphas.
Although his timing may be slightly off and he is not deep enough, I applaud his efforts. He has a great costume and the overall performance was superb.
The annas interruption is actually not in the sheet music, and it was only added when they made the 1973 movie.
GUITAR!!!!!
that annas is really epic. :) caiaphas, however, makes me kinda sad. Drew wins at life. enough said.
wow this is nothing compared to the version of 1973 but still not bad!
Jaques is not one Broadway, a musical yes, but it's not listed as on broadway
@luvdrma09 How come we aint listening to you then and we're listening to drew instead??
Wow, Judas/Drew is a good singer! Is this a community play or an actual show?
@Silivren
HA!
not a huge fan of the caiaphas and annas BUT HOLY CRAP THIS JUDAS IS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC
@PotO2004Phantom
That sounds like trying to juggle watermelons. I could never handle a play, soccer, etc., maybe when I was 10 - 15 years younger..... ;-) I dated this girl who was into College theater & it seemed to consume EVERY WAKING MOMENT of her life around then.
anyone else noticed Drew's lisp when he said Caiaphas.......???
...Maybe I just don't know much about the show(having never seen the whole show, just youtube videos, but idk if that really explains it or not), but are the 'exceedinly feminine' guards of any significance? Or are they just...there? With no real point? Thanks.
i kind of agree... what's with that outfit??
I hope you don''t mean that Drew uses falsetto to hit high notes :)
I thought it was a woman too. I was looking all over the stage for one, but couldn't find her. I was shocked to find it was a man! He sounds really good, though.
Oh really Eric Minsk? I like him ^^
He seems to focused on showing what a good singer he is (and he IS) than to reflect the real feelings Judas should be feeling in this situations. He misses completely the character
Why/What is the significance of Annas having a fan?
If anyone wants any of this.. I have all of this show to send. AUDIO only and I also have the one from Vienna. Where he plays Jesus.
(And of course I won't make you pay! That' rude!:) )
I assume the auditions were for their bodies
Actually, Annas is played by Eric Minsk.
who plays ciaphais??
Oh my god shut up both annas and Judas have amazing voices that are so rare and hard to find, listen to the notes they can hit! Also drew is acting maybe you should look at the manurisms he is using! He's trying to convince them not to kill jesus what more could he do!?!
OOOO me too please! Is it well recorded? I would be really thankful if you could pass it to me.
THanks in advance :)
Not bad!
I've heard better Caiaphases, and I'm not entirely convinced that Annas ISN'T a woman with some sort of faux-man chest on, but it's quite good, on the whole.
