Love Drew when he said "Jesus please" just pure raw emotions pouring out of him
I dunno... I think he opted for "Jesus, please..." to avoid Anderson's wail of desolation.
Someone else commented they liked this approach: "better and more emotional than all those Judases who start screaming" -- but that is exactly the point Judas SHOULD start screaming; he is at the limit of his frustration with this guy whom he is trying to coax into using his limitless powers on their enemies. There ARE no more words at that point. Carl Anderson was so good because he portrayed the words in acrobatic melody lines, but the EMOTION behind those tornado vocals.
@@jondunmore4268 I definitely agree for this specific song, but then I listen to Judas’ Death by Drew Sarich and am blown away by the sheer emotion on display. Wish he did the wail here but oh well
Favorite moment: Sarich as Judas lashing out "You sad, pathetic man..." What power in his voice!
This is by far the best performance of judas ever... I love this guy..
the "you sad pathetic man, see where you've brought us ..." part is performed so well by sarich...very unique approach and powerful at the same time...
I honestly think Drew supposed to steal the show. It's a complete misnomer that Jesus is the main character of Jesus Christ Superstar, the way the show is written, it's clearly set up to be Judas.
One thing I found really interesting in this version is that despite Jesus attacking Judas twice, Judas does not attack him once.
Throughout the show, Jesus has detested violence and actively discourages his followers to commit acts of violence or murder. However, in a moment of anger and betrayal, he resorts to violence against somebody who he once saw as his friend. This shows that even somebody with strong morals isn't perfect and can make mistakes. Jesus doing something that he normally wouldn't is intentionally out of character and paints him in a desperate and flawed state.
Meanwhile, Judas even in an enraged state doesn't use violence against Jesus. Even after being attacked, he continues to keep his composure and simply tries to talk some sense into a Jesus who is beyond reach. This not only establishes how deeply he cared for Jesus and his beliefs but also paints him in a more sympathetic light where we understand where he's coming from.
I don't know I thought that was kinda cool.
The "Jesus please" oh my God
Anyone else kind of underwhelmed by the guy playing Jesus? I mean it's a hard role, but still.
Major, ridiculous chills at 5:34. Dear lord, Drew is freaking amazing.
This is better than both of the movies. I LOVE IT!
I like it, Drew makes perfect Judas but I still think Jesus should use more scream. Throwing Judas away doesn't make him looks upset or emotional. This is musical, a freaking rock musical!
i love drew in this part *sighs happily* and the "jesus, please" just gets me everytime ^^
Stephen Seale. Judas is Drew Sarich whom I LOVE! He made an awesome Judas...and when he was Jesus he was equally great, but I like him the Judas role personally!!! He's fantabulous!
"jaded" means faded or worn out. a mandarin is an official of high power and wisdom in the East. so a "jaded mandarin" means a powerful man in jaded condition, which means he no longer has power or influence, he's a has-been. anyway, that was the best way i could explain it. haha sorry if it didnt make much sense. XD i love DREW!!!
Judas, is amazing really brings it to life with his improvisations, and has a lot of energy, Jesus is Ok..... costume is cool ;)
Jesus sure does assualt Judas a fair bit in this version...
diese interpretation der sänger ist einfach unglaublich! vor allem judas verleiht dieser inszenierung eine unglaubliche dynamik und power. klasse!
His "Jesus, please" is a lot better and more emotional than all those Judases who start screaming then.
Id like to see Drew Sarich as Judas and Steve Balsamo as Jesus in a production together!
what was that spin throw by jesus hahahahha
I think Jesus is Good, and Judas is Amazing!!!!
BTW- The costumes are Great
drew drew drew you are SO GOOD,,,,,,,, and i saw him in les miz and met him after, such a freakin nice guy too
What a beautiful production. Great performances.
Drew is always more amazing as the villain of the show. Comparing his Judas/Jesus roles and Armand/Lestat roles show it. He's absolutely amazing no matter what he does, though.
They are so doomed by the narrative, I love it
nevermind i found it..thanks for uploading all of these.
I love Drew!!
I love Drew =]
I liked very much this performance
ich liebe diesesn anfang!!
wow this performance is really impressing
drew is so great in his role i'm so amazed by him he is doing an great judas i think he plays the role of judas better than the role of jesus but when he does judas i think he is even better than the judas from the movie!!!
Great voice!
I miss Jesus
Mary is there!
Jesus threw himself at Judas. Got him in a head lock, and effectively flipped him over.
MUST. SEE. MORE.
I'm sorry that comment made me giggle so much!!! I had to pause the vid until I finished laughing!! thank you!
It's Amstetten 2005. And that's Stephen Seale as Jesus.
What are you talking about? this Judas is great!
5/5
how can I get a copy of this performence? Drew is mind blowing!!
Yes, but is there a video of him as Jesus? That'd be pretty amazing... someone put it online!
Steph743, thanks a lot... I was wondering for AGES already what Fruit had to do with it...
Hasselhoffhater, I totally agree with oyur name!
Nice,moving,cool.
He says "Jesus, please."
The part at 1:20 when they all bow their heads looks amazing. Stephen Seale is deceptively good as Jesus, at least in this scene. Drew, of course, is fantastic.
he knows kung fu
im sorry, but how gay did Jesus sign when he went "go, just GET OUT!" haha
Ah... That's pretty depressing. On a flight to London yesterday morning, it was all I could listen to. I'm pretty obsessed with him as Judas, and while he's a stellar Jesus (and without seeing a video), I feel like he plays a better Judas than Jesus. Vocally, however, he's definitely hard to beat either way!
Im missing the power
All I'm hearing is how much better Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson put their hearts and vocal cords and souls into these performances...
OMG I KNOW! That's the first thing I thought when I first saw them. HOTNESS.
wow I kinda like this one!
haha mildetryth no problem. i wondered it for forever too, then one day i finally decided to look it up. lol
the true faith
+Pete K As opposed to other, less true mythologies.
Mythologies? Boy, are you in for a surprise.
I think it's fantastic...But I don't know other versions^^
But I think noone could be better than Drew xD
Balsamo and Drew Salich...agreed-the best Jesus/Judas combination...by far...maybe Gillan in 1972 would have been a better Jesus, but...
jesus was showing his human side after all thats why he throw judas
COMMENTS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED :)
That's what I thought. Well, thanks.
the deciples were HOT!
five stars all around
He does have his moments though.
5:05 - 5:13 is pretty damn impressive.
Yeah. Gary Cherone did Boston Rock Opera. You can find a clip of his Gethsemane on youtube. I like Stephen Seale, but Gary Cherone can actually hit the notes.
do you/ can you post th simon zealotes song?
by the way i love drews face at 2:38-2:40 that's just... i don't know really great acted just his expression on his face tells so mutch i think he steals jesus the show... a little bit
wouldnt it be awsome if Drew played both Judas and Jesus xD
All thing's work out for the good of those who love the Lord who's called according to his purpose!
Dude, go fuck yourself. We're talking about the inimitable rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar, not that pansy Jesus.
Oh, man I feel sorry for both Jesus and Judas here. Jesus knows that Judas is destined to be the one to betray him, and Judas can't do anything about it. Despite this, Jesus's human and irrational side, human because he needs to die, is angry and so very sad both at and for Judas and therefore so cruel when he pushes Judas away, making Judas go to turn him in "before I change my mind," like he says in Gethsemane. I want to cry. D,:
As far as I know it doesn't exist :(
What did he say at 5:34?
Jezus attacks Judas... Awsome!
i'd love to see this production of getheseme...does it exist?
who is the actor who plays jesus?
Jesus using physical violence is the unrealistic part
epic jesus attack!
jebus plz
I'm surprised not to see though, comments concerning this jesus, who imo is second only to Gillan.
how do you know what jesus looks like?
Of course, I prefer Glenn Carter and Jerome Pradon but these guys are pretty good. Very impressive.
Beats me. Ask Tim Rice! :p
I disagree... I actually like his voice. But Drew is out of the question. He's one of the best Judas I've seen (if not the best)
@Bdawg9891 Oh God, yes, Drew is a hottie.
oh no howd he do that?
Did jesus dropkick judas?
thats pretty acurate really
he isn't ted neeley =.='
little fast, but nice performance.
@puggibear That´s what i say!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stephen Seale is good, it's just that he can't pull high notes.
Tony Vincent always made me cringe.
I say Delisco as the understudy. I did JCS with him at North Shore this fall, and he was terrifc.
god this is so slowed down
pah! bring back drew as jesus.. and as judas at the same time lol
I think this Jesus is pretty good! i would rather Drew be Jesus and Judas but thats impossible! And yes those disciples are HOT!
isn't it supposed to be red wine?!
this prolly the best last supper ive seen but this guyu doenst relel compare to ted neeley
Um, okay... I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Although I'll never understand why would anyone say that Drew has no concept of ensemble... But anyway...
who would you say is a good Judas?
god this is so slowedf down
I know! Wonderful Judas, but not-so-great Jesus.
Look at your blank faces
hahahahaha
I think the way the americas sing it cuz of their accent ruins it,, no affence to anyone here if ur american,, sorry its wat i think,, and i love jesus christ superstar
That lisp is really bothersome to me.
Mmm I think that having Drew Sarich together on the same stage with Glenn Carter would be an insult to Drew's talent. I think that this Jesus is a lot better even if he doesn't sing the high parts (don't tell me that Carter can hit the high parts, because his annoying and girly falsetto can't be called "singing"). I hate the 2000 version, but I think it would have improved a lot with Steve Balsamo as Jesus and anyone but Pradon or Tony Vincent as Judas
