I have always loved this modern sculpture - the Kinetic Rain. And for years, I wanted to capture the contemporary sculpture in video. Now, with my Sony Xperia Z1, with a great camera that produces quality photos and videos that people love, I can finally do the sculptor justice.
Also, I promised an overseas friend that I will film this moving metal sculpture and post it for him. Inspired on Sunday, September 14 2014, I made a trip all the way to Singapore Changi Airport (at Changi Airport Arrivals Hall, Terminal 1 not Changi Airport Departure Hall), and filmed this. Now, I share it with the whole world. This is definitely one of the Things To See In Singapore
About Kinetic Rain at Changi Airport
==============================
This is the centerpiece of the Changi Airport, Terminal 1, called Kinetic Rain. It is the world's largest kinetic sculpture with 1,216 raindrops made of aluminium and highly polished copper. The entire moving sculpture is controlled by 1,216 individual motors that swirl and dance to depict the joy of travel.
The installation consists of two separate segments, installed several meters apart. Each segment consists of 608 copper-plated aluminum raindrops, each of which weighs 180 grams (6.3 oz) and is suspended by a thin wire. Computer-controlled motors attached to the wires can move each raindrop up and down independently, and thereby make the elements form elaborate moving shapes. The installation is programmed to make the elements morph into 16 different shapes during a 15-minute loop, including flight-related shapes such as airplanes, kites or hot air balloons.
Kinetic Rain was created over a period of two years by artists, animators and programmers from the German design firm Art+Com. Its cost has not been made public. According to Art+Com, the sculpture "aims to be a source of identity for its location, and provides a moment for passengers to contemplate and reflect".
