Just acquired my fourth BPS and I finally get to own something designed by DBK! Thank you guys for still keeping the budget folks in mind. By the way, they're really good for learning how to Scandivex, I used those and the shapton ha no kuromaku stones, and got really close to a mirror on my first or second try.

I have 3 BPS knives, and I can attest to the fact that they are an incredible value. They're not made with a super steel, so won't hold an edge forever, but they do pretty well considering the 1066 steel. BPS must be doing a very good heat treat on them. For what you pay for them, they're hard to beat. Looks like I soon will own 4 BPS knives! 😁
Yeah, their steel is up there with other good carbon steels. It's more of a trick of the mind where we assume 1084 is lower than 1095 and must be worse, and 1066 is lower still so it must be garbage. Doesn't quite work that way, and their steel does really comparable to other popular carbon steels

Your production, music, edits, and effects are always great but your honesty and enthusiasm are why you are addictive to watch. I'll make this my first BPS knife and plan for it to be my "hard user" but I'm going to hear that chill bossa nova every time I smash a new wooden Mjölnir into existence to use as a baton.

Awesome to see this, i was hoping for a Mora Budget DBK knife or something, but truthfully BPS more fits your shape of knife, and is probably more willing to work since they are a newer company appreciate the extra interest that comes from making a DBK knife
we once tried to collab with mora too but the minimum order quantities are very high to get a good price. The equipment they use for making the knives is very expensive. Knives are priced low because they can produce incredible quantities
I would argue that the best knife doesn't spark the hardest in the firesteel test. That's because each stroke would shave off too much, perhaps more than what you need which significantly reduce the life of your firesteel, which makes a big difference in a long term survival situation. You only need a decent spark to light a fire so your firesteel last longer. Those are the best survival knives.
Just spent a total of 10 minutes to add tension to the sheath, including finding my Amazon leather work tools. So for the crybabies, it is Bushcraft after all.Great knife.Good work again!

I have two BPS knives in my amazon cart right now, I wouldnt have found the company if it werent for your viedos on them. The ones I picked out are a very Kephart inspiried design and the other is based on the old marbles ideal pattern knife that kephart used before coming up with his own knife design. I may have to add this one to the cart before checking out now just to say I can have a knife designed by the DBK bois. Good show lads
I was on the BPS site before coming here. I saw the Bushmate and said that thing looks sick! Gonna get one. I have three other BPS knives. Congrats guys! PS. The sweet spot for fixed blade knife prices for me is $100 but often that is $150 these days. So BPS is 1/2 my sweet spot.
I Love BPS knifes. got my first one about a yr and half ago. now have 5, they have litterally replaced all my other outdoor knifes , for bushcraft, general use, and hunting and daily carry. simply amazing knifes for the cost, just the sheaths alone would cost more then the knife if coming from any one else, great sheaths if you like the style of them, i do. great steel on the knifes , easy to sharpen, holds a good edge, never had one chip or a tip break, and the handles are about the only ""budget "" part and one can easily make a new handle out of g10 or macarda and put em on, since the scales are just screwed on. easy to field fix if they ever broke. can also just spend 10 min with sandpaper a bit of walnut stain and a blowtorch and then seal it up with a clear coat, and bam customized scales. bps is a 9 out of 10 for me
I was stoked. Unfortunately, the sheath really doesn't hold the knife well. In addition, my model arrived with a warped blade and really really dull 😕. It is a pity. I will do what i always do. Sharpen it and customize it 😊.

Love my BPS knives and will definitely order one of these! Id also love to see a flat blade BPS Adventure for a camp cook knife, as i love the shape of the knife already and just want a flatter grind, and maybe even a stainless version
I'm going to claim this idea... for 2 years I was trying to get you to review BPS knives (before you did the adventurer review) and then when you released the dbk knife, I told you that you would be much better off partnering with BPS instead of TRC so more people could afford them.... thanks you for finally making me feel important lol. BPS is almost up there with Mora (the best value in the entirety of the knife industry) when it comes to bang for your buck. Beyond excellent performance for the price, they are damn good looking knives. I’m really glad to see them getting love. Slava Ukraini

It’s hard to argue against it being a great option for 50 bucks. Slots in nicely between the cheapest Moras and things like the garberg. You could also toss hultafors and terava in the mix as far as value choices.

As far as value for what you are actually getting (a small batch, hand finished knife from a maker who does everything in-house), I can’t think of anything that comes close to what you get from BPS. Go try one. What you get for 50 bucks is really impressive. The closest equivalent from Mora is something from their ash wood collection… which are absurdly overpriced.
Bps definitely is one of the best Fulltang makers out there. Compare price of these to a Mora Garberg and it blows it out of the water with also a nicer sheath and nicer handle scales. The key would be to find whichever BPS knife uses the thickest stock, to compete with a Garberg, no use comparing two knives when one is twice as thick by design
@@LubberKing where are you that the Garberg is only 5 bucks more? I'm in Canada, and the Garberg is $105, and this knife isn't actually available, but the closest BPS is like 55-60 bucks. And that's including a fire steel and a leather sheath. If you could get a Garberg for almost the same price as this knife, I'd probably lean towards a Garberg, even if it meant buying a BPS sheath for it, but I'd get this over a Carbon steel Garberg

I've had a bps knife for years think it cost me £30 it a mora companion shape with hardwood scales and a leather sheath...tbh it was worth it just for the leather. Mine is 1066 HC sharpens real easy tarnishes real fast i put hot pepper source on it and instantly darkened..not a problem for me its been a great camp knife.
You guys need to do an after convex profile video . That knife is basically the blade shape of the Benchmade Bushcrafter or like their puukko. It can easily be modified to do amazingly better . I think knife ownwers really need to learn but also understand just how important geometry is. I turned my Gerber Prodigy the ugly older brother too the Strongarm into an awesome bushcraft knife. Geometry in my opinion is more important than steel...Now im not stupid , YES steel is HUGE but low grade steel can be upgraded hugely by geometry and too me thats almost magical.
@canadafree2087 I ground down the guard nubs , took the pointy tip off the pummle. Then I reprofiled the edge around 19° and removed the shoulders or V edge by strop and compound. The Prodigy comes with a 25 to 30° bevel that cuts wood like crap , ya gotta change that edge geometry. Once I did that it is now an actual working woods tool . I've had no rolling or chipping cause the convexing makes the edge strong bit slicy . 20° to 19° is the max ya don't want to go lower or the edge will become to weak. U.S 420hc is tough steel and takes an edge very easy thays why the military uses it.
BPS have a good reputation for decent quality, very sharp budget knives. Another very similar Ukrainian knife manufacturer is Beavercraft check them out. I bought a beavercraft 5 inch scandi with oak scales for 40 quid, bess sharpness was 92.
@@DutchBushcraftKnives yeh I'm not sure I've heard some people say they are related and some people say they are totally separate, one things for sure, both offer really good value decent budget blades.
The Beavercraft knives are just lacking in my eyes, aesthetically at least. The BPS Adventure, this Bushmate, as well as some of their other designs are just really nice looking where as the Beavercraft look a little bland and just less nice looking.
have you seen their BP model comes in two blade lengths 110mm and 95mm and it's the one that all reviews say "it looks like a Mora" so for everyone who wanted a full tang woud handled leather sheathed Mora without paying an exorbitant amount, there you go
This knife is a really good design! Very well done, guys. I absolutely love mine! I put a new thiner bevel on mine. I really hope they replace the sheath in the future. I'm definitely going to buy more once the sheath issue is fixed.
I do have 3 -B P S knives love them all I have had them for some time now when they were first on Amazon I thought they would be lacking but to my surprise there great. Happy Trails
Hi guys! Just today, 3 weeks after ordering, I received the BPS Bushmate DBK knife. Unfortunately, my first impression is not positive. Apart from the fact that the knife is slightly corroded, the quality of the finish is at least average. Poor finish can be felt in the hand, the upper edge looks as if someone forgot to finish it, because it even hurts the fingers. But the chairs spark like crazy!!! (my opinion 10/10). on the other hand, the sheath is finished like a Premium knife, but unfortunately it does not hold the knife safely inside. It can even be removed from a closed sheath. I think it can be recommended to teenagers starting their adventure with bushcraft to try a different knife than the Mora Campanion, or to use such an inexpensive knife ($70 with shipping and engraving) to learn sharpening or personalize it yourself. In my opinion, it's better to spend USD 70 on a better, more expensive knife (e.g. FV Idun), because for now I feel like I wasted USD 70. Of course, the above is only my subjective opinion and may apply to only one copy, although I also have a BPS Adventurer and my opinion about this model is definitely better. Apart from poor balance (the blade is too far forward) and a slightly too small handle in relation to the size of the knife, it is a great tool for an even lower price than the Bushmate. Best regards and I hope you will understand my opinion. I'm waiting for your next awesome videos and tests.
Got mine in the post today, love the ergonomics of it, but it arrived not able to cut paper. I'm currently trying to put an edge on it. I have to say I'm a little bit disappointed :(
I’m thinking it’s going to be my daughters first knife. She’s 7, so it’ll be perfect for her to use and abuse🙂 But I’m gonna throw it an my Naniwas first and give it a nice convex🙂

I have a few BPS knives. They are good for a price but steel that they used is low level. The problem is that they just incase the price for they products. Going to 50$ range with 1066 or 5cr steel can be a problem.

Hah I saw the knife, first thing that came to mind was BPS. I got 4 knives from them and they are amazing!
Just bought it. Looks good, great sheath, comes with a ferro rod…and it was only 45 USD. I think it’s worth it.

What did you do to the Prodigy? I own one but not a big fan of the blade, I tend to like high saber is I can't get full flat grind.

BPS have a good reputation for decent quality, very sharp budget knives. Another very similar Ukrainian knife manufacturer is Beavercraft check them out. I bought a beavercraft 5 inch scandi with oak scales for 40 quid, bess sharpness was 92.
Love their wood carving knives.
I think beavercraft knives is made by bps but I have no proof :P
@@DutchBushcraftKnives yeh I'm not sure I've heard some people say they are related and some people say they are totally separate, one things for sure, both offer really good value decent budget blades.
The Beavercraft knives are just lacking in my eyes, aesthetically at least. The BPS Adventure, this Bushmate, as well as some of their other designs are just really nice looking where as the Beavercraft look a little bland and just less nice looking.
I ordered one of these 2 days ago that will be here Monday, and so it was nice to find this video about them because I went into the purchase blind.

have you seen their BP model comes in two blade lengths 110mm and 95mm and it's the one that all reviews say "it looks like a Mora" so for everyone who wanted a full tang woud handled leather sheathed Mora without paying an exorbitant amount, there you go

This knife is a really good design! Very well done, guys. I absolutely love mine! I put a new thiner bevel on mine. I really hope they replace the sheath in the future. I'm definitely going to buy more once the sheath issue is fixed.

Hi guys! Just today, 3 weeks after ordering, I received the BPS Bushmate DBK knife. Unfortunately, my first impression is not positive. Apart from the fact that the knife is slightly corroded, the quality of the finish is at least average. Poor finish can be felt in the hand, the upper edge looks as if someone forgot to finish it, because it even hurts the fingers. But the chairs spark like crazy!!! (my opinion 10/10). on the other hand, the sheath is finished like a Premium knife, but unfortunately it does not hold the knife safely inside. It can even be removed from a closed sheath. I think it can be recommended to teenagers starting their adventure with bushcraft to try a different knife than the Mora Campanion, or to use such an inexpensive knife ($70 with shipping and engraving) to learn sharpening or personalize it yourself. In my opinion, it's better to spend USD 70 on a better, more expensive knife (e.g. FV Idun), because for now I feel like I wasted USD 70. Of course, the above is only my subjective opinion and may apply to only one copy, although I also have a BPS Adventurer and my opinion about this model is definitely better. Apart from poor balance (the blade is too far forward) and a slightly too small handle in relation to the size of the knife, it is a great tool for an even lower price than the Bushmate. Got mine in the post today, love the ergonomics of it, but it arrived not able to cut paper. I'm currently trying to put an edge on it. I have to say I'm a little bit disappointed :(

GREETINGS FROM MICHIGAN! I must get a Bushmate! My scandi 1066 BPS is an excellent value. The included sheath alone is worth what I paid for the knife. Id like to see you guys test a Bark River U.P. BRAVO! Its a cross between a Bravo 1LT & a Canadian & might be my favorite Bark River. Congratulations & Great job you goofy bastards!
I have a few BPS knives. They are good for a price but steel that they used is low level. The problem is that they just incase the price for they products. Going to 50$ range with 1066 or 5cr steel can be a problem.
This is probably their more expensive version, the normal full tang designs I see for like 30$
