I'm glad you put water in it and not Dexcool. I've had a bad experience with Dexcool eating gaskets so I switched to green antifreeze and haven't had a problem.
Dexcool is fine if you service it regularly and dont cross contaminate it. I have found that cars with really clean and maintained dexcool do fine but alot of problems come from people not changing the coolant and gm dealers used delco sealing pellets which is basically stop leak on alot of vortec motors to bandaid intake gasket problems and those sealing pellets contaminate the coolant and can cause some serious corrosion.
The coolant passages still look new inside my 23 year old 5.3L Sierra Z71 with 237,xxx miles. Not rusty or corroded at all. Nothing but orange dexcool ever since it was new. FYI, green antifreeze is more corossive to aluminum than orange dexcool, that's why GM used it. That is why I still use it. Sure it costs more money, but it has a longer service life so there's that. Any kind of water is the worst thing you could put in it. Yeah distilled water doesn't have the minerals that regular tap water has, but it still has the same boiling point. So there's that as well, just saying lol😅.
Wow, I dont think I have ever seen a water pump that growled as bad as that one lol. Water pumps are easy to change on these ls engines but they are expensive to buy new.
Yeah that water pump was toast . I could tell it was shot from the first time you showed the video you can actually see the water pump pulley go in and out as it was running causing the noise that you heard so it was definitely toast . An odd yours has green coolant they suppsed to have Dex Cool orange coolant
Wow you run it with straight water and no thermostat? Water doesn't lube like antifreeze does. Im sure you know that. Nice wrenching. Jr will be at it before ya know it.
Take a load of scrap that you got laying around go down there turn it in down your way back home stop and just grab a $40 water pump they're not too expensive don't risk it
Keep on making the repair videos even if there's already one out there having one more won't hurt a thing
That boys gonna be wrenching before you know it pump pully was moving in and out! If you watch you can see!
Thats the 1st thing I saw too
Keep them coming I really enjoy the videos very informative
I didn't see any mention about the rtv. The ls engine gaskets don't need rtv but I'm like you I still use the hell out of it.
I just use it to help the gasket stay on

Running straight water is a pretty bad thing to do. Probably a contributor to his pump failure.

This is the second motor and prolly 4th water pump so it hasn't had coolant in a while lol.. I'll add some now since no more leaks
Those ls pumps still have weep holes on the nose of them behind the pulley
I know what you mean by always working on it I got an 06 crew cab I wrench on more then I drive
