2016 BMW M2 Test Review - Is this a REAL M Car?

  • As new cars get bigger and more powerful, the essence of a good sports car is getting lost. Maybe the New 2016 BMW M2 can change that and bring the pureness of a well balanced rear wheel drive sports car back.

    I have an m235i and the door handle has never been an issue. There's also a power seat button on the front seats near the shoulder latch to give the person in the back more room to get out/in. Good review.

    Getting out of the back is easy, hit the button on the side of the seat with the arrows. Moves seat all the way to the front for you.

    Two things i realized watching this video:
    1. The more i see the M2 the more i love it.
    2. Canada looks beautiful, i want to drive the shit out of this road.

    There’s a great thread on BimmerPost detailing production (and LCI) plans for many BMW models over the next 12 months. Perhaps the most interesting thing it shows is timing for the LCI on various models. Here’s a sampling:
    The 60Ah i3 ends production early, signifying it is going out of production permanently, leaving just the new 94Ah and 94Ah REx models.
    The 2017 2 Series and M2 end production in June 2017. This is a firm indication that the LCI will begin production in July of 2017 (as a MY2018)
    The 2017 4 Series and M4 (and M3) end production in February 2017. Interesting this doesn’t mean there will be an LCI introduced in March. Instead there will be a four month gap in production and the LCI will begin being produced in July 2017 .
    <
    p>BTW it’s worth nothing that, while most recent LCIs have been little more than eye candy, there’s good evidence that the M2’s will be legendary.

    • @bobstarr
      @bobstarr Před 7 lety

      My apologies, its 404 lb/ft. from the factory. Do I trust Dinan, sure , he was hired to help the Ford win the 24hr of LeMans. www.dinancars.com/product/d440-1649-st1-d-tronics-performance-tuner-stage-1-for-bmw-f87-m2/?series=M-series&mid=1243/ on this page you can find dyno results from a stock car. The hp was actually less. Sorry.

    • @bratzelhutzel
      @bratzelhutzel Před 7 lety

      well bmw says 370 engine hp - not wheel? so a loss of 10 hp at wheels and 404 lb-ft where it should be only 343 is way more? :)

    • @johnh8546
      @johnh8546 Před 7 lety

      yeah these numbers show that the M2 is quite a bit more powerful than the claimed numbers considering you should lose 15 or so HP through the drive train. So it has at least 5 more horses than it should and WAY more torque.

    Go test it on a bumpy-twisty road...then you will change your mind. The ride become so jittery and unpredictable! It's the real downside of this new M (despite the look wich is personal).

  • @americanAlienBoy
    @americanAlienBoy Před 7 lety

    Sport+ is, IMHO, useless. You don't actually get extra power, and it's more difficult to modulate the throttle in tight corners. Interestingly, if you turn off all the stability controls as you'd want to on a track, it puts the drivetrain in 'Sport' mode.

    • @averageguy7932
      @averageguy7932 Před 6 lety

      I first noticed that on both of my M235i's. In engaging Launch Control, you end up in Sport rather than Sport +! Seems a little counter intuitive.

    • @johnh8546
      @johnh8546 Před 7 lety +3

      Why would you do that. The straight 6 is the king of engine balance and torque per displacement. The V8 only has a place if you are trying to get a lot of displacement into a smaller engine bay. If you are trying to strike a good balance between performance, economy, drivability, and engine smoothness a V8 is the wrong engine.
