  • In Luminaries, the first original series from Uproxx, we discover some of the most fascinating people in science and technology. We set out to tell you about what they’re making and how it’s revolutionary. Plus, the creative process and the inspiration behind it. For example, 19-year-old Easton said his prosthetic arm came about because he met a little girl using a limb that cost $80,000, and it struck him as far too much. The average prosthetic limb costs $60,000 and Easton was able to build a fully functioning prototype for $350.

John Peace Didn't realize you replied anyway, its easy to make it cheap if his is so shit the things you guys don't understand about the 30-50,000 dollar prosthetic hand's is that they have stronger and faster motors and more advanced signal reading, plus much more durable materials while his is just some shitty plastic and mini servo motors and fishing line that anyone can make.

To those of you who think this is some revolutionary prosthetic arm that can read your mine, these have been around since 1964. Also many other people have made similar things and for those that think that his can do more than big companies look at the BeBionic3 and the I-Limb Ultra. But to be honest he did do a decent job making it so cheap and giving a amputee his first prosthetic.

This is awesome what they're doing. but it's irrational to think that the big hitters can't feasibly make a cheaper prosthetic limb. Especially with all their additional resources. Competition always drives costs down though. So while they wont knock the other players out, hopefully they can keep them from bending over those with missing limbs.
