  • The Light Fantastic is the second book in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld and it’s the sixth in this series that I read. At this point I am pretty much committed to reading the entire series, all 41 books.
This is my spoiler-free reading experience of The Light Fantastic.

I started Pratchett with Equal Rites and really enjoyed it. It's not outstanding literature, but very fun. I hope you'll like it!!

Nice! The Cohen quote cracked me up. I'm happy you found the starting place that works for you, and I did the same - once I was invested after the first few Night Watch books, I just started reading in publication order.

Thanks. Yeah, that's it. One has to get invested and then you can find your way into the series.

I enjoyed the light fantastic. Not my favourite in the series but it was a decent entry. My suggestion for your next read would be Mort or Wyrd Sisters, two of the best fantasy novels ever written.
I’m reading Discworld in publication order at the moment - I’m at this moment reading the last continent

I will get to Mort and Wyrd Sisters in time, because, like yourself, I'm reading in publication order.

@@DutchGreyBeard you’re quite close. Mort and Wyrd Sisters is the time where Discworld comes into its own

I may have mentioned it before. Have you googled annotated Pratchett file? It helps explain all the many references to other books, movies, etc. Glad you’re now fully onboard the Pratchett train!

Thanks Nev, yes I have. I regularly visit the Fandom websites where there is a lot of information. But truly, only those references within my own (limited) range of knowledge, resonate.

Glad to see you enjoying it!
Will it be another Tiffany next or Granny Weatherwax's first appearance in Equal Rites?

In that case I prefer to continue with Equal Rites. I've noticed that some of the characters from the Tifanny Aching books have made an appearance earlier in the series. In The Light Fantastic I stumbled upon Galder Weatherwax, who has to be related to Granny Weatherwax.

      @@DutchGreyBeard good spot!
Equal Rites was when I really started to get addicted to Pratchett.
