- Doing a bit of basic maintenance on a 2012 Yamaha WR450, the valve clearance check is something that anyone can do if you have a bit of patience and a basic set of tools. Don't be afraid to try to work on your own machine. You got this!!

Thanks, I like it when my job is easy but I also want to show how to do the adjustments for people who want to get that information. I'm sure I will get another one in soon. Thanks for watching.
Good day to to you Well dun very well presented rise safe
Erik Z thanks for watching!
WR450 won't be my last dirt bike but I would never sell it. 6 years 300 hours always on mid spec. It comes with a great manual that anyone with decent mechanical aptitude can use. Two things that I would recommend everyone get is the manual that comes with it and the GYTR ECU and tuner.
Yamaha has done it right with the WR. My buddy is supposed to be getting the tuner so I hope to learn about that. Ride Blue!
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures I have some maps from various places. Shoot me an email if he gets one. I'll send them to you. If you have any questions on the tuner let me know.
Totally agree with what you said
Yamaha with GYTR Competition ECU
Literally wakes it up
Along with tuner you could tune the bike for different maps
I prefer Vlxjim map and GYTR by FMF Map

Hi there
I am looking for wr450f maps 12-15
How i can contact you ?
I promise you,, I would not see me doing the Valve adjustment are probably the valve check maybe the check.. I do change my oil and brakes,, I could see it now my wife WTF are you talking about,, she knows me she would be like what was you thinking.. BUT very good video Tom..
The good thing about these WR450’s are they very rarely need adjustment so being able to check them is a good way to save money. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for this. I've done valves on a 125 before because it was super simple (2 valves and didn't need to take the fuel tank or head off) but I've been dreading doing it on my 2022 WR450F. Hopefully it's not too different to this on the 2022 model. I've put 3000 miles on it so not checking the clearances is giving me anxiety 😅
PS One thing you didn't mention is the gasket. Did you reuse it, use paste or order a new gasket?
I’m not sure how different the newer models are, they flipped the engine around I think? Most valve cover gaskets are rubber and reusable. Might need just a bit of sealant.
Would a 2016 be much different? Wanting to check mine but its a 16 model
I think 16 was the first year of the “backwards” engines? The idea is going to be the same, but I don’t know if the clearance specifications are the same.
That bike doesn't look like it has a reserve on it. And are those J.I.S. feeler gauges?
I can’t think of a fuel injected bike that has reserve, they all have a fuel light or gauge. Yes, JIS and Whitworth combination feeler gauges. Haha, that’s the second old British vehicle reference I have hit you with recently!
