  • How we stopped living paycheck to paycheck. This is our story on why we made the decision to stop living paycheck to paycheck, and how we did it. You don't have to live paycheck to paycheck. If you are serious about making a change, you can do it.
Debt enslaves you. Steals your freedom of choice and prevents you from building wealth. That's why we'll never borrow money again, and have committed to live debt free. We're changing our family tree, one baby step at a time, thanks to the teachings of Dave Ramsey.
What are the Dave Ramsey Baby Steps • What are the Dave Rams...
To stop living paycheck to paycheck: Face your debts and track your spending. Write it all down. Then begin about the business of STOPPING your old bad money habits such as acquiring new debt, and living beyond your means. Get current on your rent/mortgage, electricity, oil, water bills etc. Even if that means NOT paying your credit card. Pay for food, lights and water first. Then tackle your debts. Life might not be easy for a few years, while you get out of debt and adjust to living below your means. But it CAN be done. Life will be that much sweeter in the long run, and a WHOLE lot less stressful.

I'm living paycheck to paycheck but God has been good to me and my children. I pay my tithes and offering faithfully. My bills are always paid. I'm a single mom of three by the way. God is good, I focus on being positive at all times. When it comes to my children I don't care how big the bill is. They health matter more. Better safe then sorry. I like your videos.

we have a place called the great exchange thirty minutes from my house where you can take 25 pieces of clothes/books/jewelry and exchange free for 25. it is a ministry of a church. It has grown hugely. I have taken clothes people give me and took out baby blankets for people or even larger ones and used on my dog's beds which are small canvas cots. I don't even have to buy books anymore and except for underwear and shoes have not purchased clothes for years now and I work in a law firm, not going shabby

Cut my cable in 2011, cleared all debt, and credit score jumped! Available credit is massive; in case of emergency use only! One needs to police one's spending; I'm now spending only half my take home pay, and saving the rest. My retirement plan is set as well. This is peace.

You are preaching what I have been doing most of my adult life. Now I have a adult daughter that has been observing me and was telling me that it was difficult to say no to invitations... I would like to tell my answer to her. I did ask her to have her friends over and talk about money for real. We would be very surprise to see how stress are these people with nice cars and nice things. I prefer to be able to sleep very well at night than wondering how we will make payments.

This is incredible! I somehow falsely assumed that you were frugal most of your life. I have a very similar story and I rewarded myself with a new car when I graduated with my Bachelors at 26. (I graduated later in life). I still have the car and am planning to keep the car another 6 years, if I can! Thankfully I got a large raise 6 months ago, and I've been able to save a lot more this year. I have a $118,000 mortgage and am $72,000 in student loan debt.
I've been stretching my money here and there but I know that I can do more, as far as being frugal. Thank you for your videos. I believe you offer practical advice, in a very relatable way. I'm glad I discovered your channel Dana.

Another thing you can do, if you have a school of beauty in your town, they usually charge less to let the students cut hair and learn styles (if you're not really picky on how your hair looks...) I usually just put my hair in a bun, but to keep it healthy, I get a trim every 6 months. It's usually half the cost of even the cheaper of salons!

I like the Aveda schools, because I like their products, you get a nice head massage, and the instructors check in frequently to make sure the students aren't making any huge mistakes (last time I went the students even had to show the instructor a plan before even touching my hair). It took a long time, but I ended up with a good cut!

Dana, I can really relate to this! I love to hear that other people are making sacrifices in life to get on track with their finances too. Yes, it's hard and I can relate to your story about the ER vs. Urgent Care. There was one time we sat in the ER for 5 hours waiting!!!! When we could have just waited to see the Dr. the next morning but because of our child's heart condition we felt it was important enough to go to ER but to wait that long anyways was horrible and it cost us a lot of money we didn't have at the time. It's hard sometimes to make some decisions especially when it comes to our children's health. We try to do our best as parents for our children even though it has costed us a lot of money over time. It just makes us work harder to save back money so we aren't in the same situation again. I love to hear your videos and love the help you offer to others by putting out these informative videos, thanks Dana!!

I watched this because the title of the video got me, I too am a mum of 4 and this video was my moment, I have been in some ways dreading returning to work next year ( after staying at home for 10 years with my 4 kiddos) but threw a vail of tears this video has helped me feel really positive about it, cause I can't live like this any more either, we don't have debt thankfully, but we are living pay check to paycheck after being on 1 income for so long and it is so scary tfs

New subbie, I'm learning so much thank you Dana💖I'm 48 single mom of a teen son. No house or car payment. I have always lived frugally but tired living paycheck to paycheck...I really like to own a small house, my dream.

Wow your story is a lil similar to mine as far as having a credit card early and accumulating debt.I have taken the steps to pay of my bill.I went from 7 credit cards and I am down to 3.I had my first credit card at 18 and I am now 39.My money situation is much better as I have income from various sources.Yes it is definitely possible to not live paycheck to paycheck.Having discipline is definitely a must. Thanks so much for this video!God bless

TRUTH - we know these things but we don't do them ... I've been watching your channel to try to spark some action in myself, I know the right thing to eat or spend money on but the gap between knowing and doing is so wide for me

Tip. Keep hair simple. Keep it long. Cut ends and fringes when hair is wet and USE DRESS MAKING PINKING SHEARS! Because of the ceration you don't get that awful chopped, straight line look amateurs often get when they use kitchen scissors or hairdressing scissors. The shears mimic the snipping the hairdresser does without the bill. If you want to do simple cuts as per CZcams then pinking shears work for those also.
If you use colour for grays buy a wash in six week treatment the same colour as your natural colour. Using cheap dies looks obvious unless it's a close match. This has worked for me for over five years. The hairdressers is an occassional treat not a six weekly money pit. Also study what they do to inform your skills!

You have much wisdom. The process is very important. You are learning every day...me too. Putting God first is the only way to go. Your little one is adorable & those curls!! I'm debt free & have savings, cds, stocks& bonds. Yes, it is hard, but it's more than I could ever have imagined. PTL. Keep on going. God will bless you & everything you put your hands on. SHALOM.

I can't wait to get there. I'm pretty close. 18,000. I love it how the kids just jump in. U don't whoosh them away or have them read a script. And that's how I know u are real and keeping it real :)

I am determined that after I pay off my current car, that I will never have a car payment again, or at least to get a cheap enough car where the payments are only for 1 or 2 years. (Real cheapo junkie lemons can be dangerous) No more of these 5 or 6 year car payment plans though. Done with that!

I wish I had thought of that ! I have a 5 year loan...started last Oct. My auto insurance is much more too~! Trying to figure out how to sell it for what I 'paid' and get a $2000 car.
