    What is the electronic/parts difference between the Yamaha AS1200 amplifier versus the Yamaha R-N2000a receiver? I noticed the R-N2000A is rated at lower wattage thank you.

    I own a Yamaha A-S1200 integrated amp, which apparently shares this unit's amplifier section. That is a good thing as my 1200 has fantastic imaging and clarity. The one bugaboo that probably carries over is the amp needed lots of break in. It was a bit bright or forward sounding when it was new. That went away after a few weeks of leave it on 24/7 run time.
    My amp was a "refurbished" return unit, purchased from Audio Accessories 4 Less. It looked brand new and everything was included. I wager the original buyer didn't like the bright sound and didn't know it would go away after a bit of run time. Works for me as I saved a grand off MSRP.
    Truth be told, if shopping 2 channel audio now, I would look very hard at NAD's Master Series M23 amp. Ya, is is more money and you will need a preamp too, so quite a bit more money, but wow does that amp sound fantastic and it has seemingly limitless power, which is just the thing for my old skool power hungry floor standers with 12" woofers.

      @@nasdkhan254 Well, it's complicated...
      A friend of mine who I met in the late 80s was a cabinet maker. He was broke and couldn't pay the rent so I had him build me speakers and I paid his rent. The towers stand 5 feet tall and are two pieces with 12" woofers in the bottom cabinet with a narrow "winged" upper cab that contains twin 4" mids and single tweeters and the crossover parts. This was pre internet so I went to the library and got a book on speaker design to figure out (as best I could, speaker design is insanely complex of course) crossover parts and cabinet volume for the woofer.
      They originally were supposed to be "party speakers" and originally ran Cerwin Vega! woofers (cuz it was the 80s!) but have been tweaked and tuned since then with different poly capacitors and drivers over the years. They are rustic looking and cantankerously heavy oak veneer over dense MDF things, the cabinets are braced and very strong. Everybody who has heard them can't believe how good they sound - not fatiguing at high volume levels, articulate bass, excellent soundstage. They are big speakers and they sound big - just effortless at any volume level up to the limits of my relatively modest 90 WPC amp.
      The mids are actually the original Peerless from the late 80s, back when they were still made in Denmark. I can't believe they continue to sound good at their age, but they do. The 12" woofer is a simple Peerless SLS and the tweeter an XT25, those are far more recent parts. They are not expensive speaker parts.
      I feed them FLAC files from a HTPC running Equalizer APO and using REW to tune them, that outputs to a not expensive Topping DAC on to the Yamaha amp. It was remarkable how the sound "came in" once I got the EQ right. .5 DB makes a difference. Spent a lot of winter afternoons running test tones while the wife wasn't around. It is dialed now though, at my listening chair anyway. I sit pretty close to the TV/Speakers at the correct distance in the triangle of course, which helps take the room out of it.
      I was inspired by the Infinity RS IIs I heard back then and designed them after those, I think the tall and narrow upper cabinet is why they disperse so well. I will keep 'em forever. None of this home theatre stuff for me. I'm most definitely a 2 channel dinosaur. Are they the best speakers ever made? Of course not, but they are very good. Do they tangibly connect me to my beer stained misspent wild and crazy youth and make me feel warm and fuzzy inside? Hell ya! 😆

    Thank you for your time and effort in making this video. I have a question. How easy (or hard)! is it to remove the side panels? I ask, because I would be very tempted to make a custom wooden case for the whole unit (the silver version) or just replace the side panels. with wood. Any info you can provide would be appreciated. All the best.

    I have a RN 2000A as well. In my unit, the rotary know does not enter the menus as described in the manual. In the manual it says "SELECT (PUSH-ENTER). Used for things like operating the menus on the front display. Turn this to select an item, and press it to confirm the selection." But the know does not do that. If I am on Optical 1 for example, if I rotate/click it does nothing. Is that OK? Shouldn't it go to the menus, like when pressing the remote menu button?

    • @sosojerk
      @sosojerk Před rokem

      @@hxosplus Thank you for your answer. I spoke with Yamaha Europe and my knob behavior is correct. However, Yamaha's implementation of this know is quite strange. For example, to change the system language you can't do it during normal operation. You have to power down the amp, than hold return key during power on. Only than the so called"Advanced Setup" appears on the screen. And Yamaha confirmed to me that this is the intended behavior. So no issues with my unit, just Yamaha implementing a quirky menu system.

    in the past I had a YAMAHA A-S2000 amplifier... it was very good on jazz as for other styles of music, its musicality did not excite me at all, I prefer to listen to music on small amplifiers, like REGA Elex or ARCAM SA20, AUDIOLAB 6000A,….and constitute a good association with the speakers!!!
