I’ve seen some pretty massive fish in the water locked canal sections. They’ve no way out except the end of a fisherman’s line or through a heron’s belly. Could also be a beaver. The water temps must be close to the boiling point in the canals.
It was almost certainly a catfish. I watched for a while because never was my first thought, but it settled into the water in the end. There were 2 guys fishing just down the canal...
