    New Yorker here, visited London over the summer. Honestly, I have to say London packs a punch. Very world class, clean and modern. It definitely feels larger than NY, which caught me by surprise. London definitely goes to bed early though. Nothing happening after 10pm. New York has so much going on well past midnight. NY overall feels more lively and exciting. People are more eccentric and crazy here.

    • @kayflip2233
      @kayflip2233 Před rokem +5

      Manhattan is way more built up than anywhere in London. London is mostly low rise buildings with low population density compared to NYC. Also, keep in mind that the whole BOS-NY-WASH corridor is basically one massive city with 56 million people, which feels much more massive than the greater London area. City borders are arbitrary, population density and the size of the buildings are much more relevant. You feel like an ant in NYC, whereas you don't get that feeling in London anywhere.

    • @KillerChair1
      @KillerChair1 Před rokem +1

      @Kay Flip I found London to have a larger urban core. There are these massive rail stations in various parts of the city, all bustling with commuters. Euston, waterloo, Paddington, Victoria, Liverpool, St. Pancras int, Kingscross etc etc. That would be the equivalent of having various Penn stations or Grand Centrals scattered across Inner NYC. The infrastructure all makes the city feel so much larger.
      Yes NYC is large, no denying that. But London feels more consistent with its hustle and bustle. The crowds really do get huge on Oxford St. There simply were too many urban nodes to keep track of. that just spread out from the core. NYC is unfortunately very geographically restricted with the rivers. They interrupt the flow and growth of NY. Whereas London is more continuous.

    • @kayflip2233
      @kayflip2233 Před rokem +2

      @@KillerChair1 I don't find London to have too much hustle and bustle. It does get busy on the weekends, holidays and rush hour but not at the level of NYC pre covid. To me, NYC just feels far more chaotic, and obviously way denser in Manhattan. It just feels like a much larger scale. London is definitely more spread out and goes on for a long time in all directions, however the density is low and the building height is low so it doesn't really feel like an overwhelming city to me. I find NYC and the large Asian cities with massive skyscrapers (Tokyo, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Seoul etc) to be much more overwhelming and city like than London. London, Paris, Rome etc are big cities but they don't have the height, density and energy that the Asian cities and NYC have where it's actually visually in your face and random stuff is happening everywhere you look. I just don't get that in London. My first thought walking around London is how lovely and elegant everything looks, which is typically the opposite trait of a big, loud city.

    • @tyraly12
      @tyraly12 Před rokem +1

      That as because there populations are very close in size but London is literally double the size so New Yorks density is incredibly greater than that of London. New York is the densest city in America.

    • @thisguy976
      @thisguy976 Před rokem

      @@kayflip2233 Nonsense comment. Also the Bos-NY-Wash corridor is no where near 70 million people. Furthermore, if you want a big population just go to Bihar or The Pearl River delta.

Another thing foreigners need to know is that NY is an largely immigrant city that doesn't represent the rest of the America and many if not most of the Black people in Brooklynn or the Bronx are Caribbeans not Black Americans. If I were to learn another language every couple weaks or so like Laoshu did my mind would just blow up, also it's not only that he spoke these languages just when he had learned them, he actualy remembered them for quite a long time even after focusing solely on another language from another language familly with different phonology, vocab, grammar and sometimes even entirely different "mindset"

    I was only once in New York as a child but several times in London.... I would say around 8 times or so.
    I love London. Beautiful City with lots of old and new buildings. Lots of good food, comic stores.
    New York is kinda to big and cramped up for me.... don't like all those skyscrapers.

    For all London's problems, it really doesnt have the same social and crime issues NY has. For the most part it is very safe, despite what the Daily Mail might have you believe. The culture of London is on another scale too. I think the only thing NY has over London is that things stay open 24 hours. Basically everything in London is closed by midnight.

  • @kindnessfirst9670

    I presume they are referring to NYC rather than NY. NY is much larger than NYC and has more people. It would be more interesting to ask them what they don't like about London since they presumably know much more about where they live than where they don't. The best people to ask about New York are New Yorkers.

    i've lived for over 10 years in both nyc & london. For me nyc is better than london for having easy access to beaches & having 4 month long dependable summer. nyc is similar to Barcelona in that it is right next to the ocean, where as london is more like Madrid in that it's located in land.
