Living with PTSD after War (Combat PTSD, Bipolar, and Borderline Personality Disorder)

- Justin is a veteran diagnosed with combat PTSD, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder. Living with these mental health disorders has strained many of his personal relationships. Justin is now in therapy with the goal of ending generational trauma and providing his daughter with a happy childhood. He wants others to know that just like going to the doctor for checkups on your body, it's okay to do the same for the mind.

Thank you Justin for sharing your story. I know it will help many people out there. During our discussion Justin told me one of the best things he did for his mental health is quit alcohol. I asked him what hobby he replaced drinking with and he told me "creating art and music". In the description of this video I put a link to Justin's music for those who would like to check it out.

Another amazing video SBSK. Been watching y’all since you had ~3k subs and I check in now and then. This video has answered a lot of questions for me and my mental health. It’s amazing to see the success you all have achieved.
I just want to say that I hope he’s getting better at coping with all of that and that I thank him for his service.
Thank you for serving our country
Thank you justin and thank you chris. the fact that higher education and medical care are treated as commodities to be purchased messes with so many people globally
The cat strolls in right before he speaks his trauma like, “I’m here, dad, just pick me up if you’re feeling anxious.”

You’re not alone brother. I served in Iraq in 2015, and I joined to pay for school and attain health care at the age of 27. I was a music teacher and musician previously. I have always been a deeply empathetic human. I’ve been home from war for 7 years, rated for PTSD from deployment, and there’s really no coming back from war. Nothing can prepare you for it, and nothing can bring you back. Stay strong bro, you got this, all of us who’ve shared the experience of war are behind you. You’re not alone.

This is not clear thinking. If you think your life is pathetic, being diagnosed with PTSD will only make it pathetic with PTSD.
Please get therapy, work on yourself so that you don't feel that having a horrible, life changing diagnosis will somehow make you better.

I don't mean to be rude because I truly feel like you guys have gone through enough but serious question: how do you hear a man saying that he joined the military exclusively so he wouldn't starve and say thank you for your service? What service? Or I guess a better question would be service for who, exactly?
@@tatianabaudean1633because at the end of the day they still chose to make that sacrifice instead of choosing crime or regular employment. Most people I met in service didn’t join just for patriotic reasons alone. Everybody has their own reasons and life circumstances and everybody needs to provide for themsleves and their families. As long as they served with honor it’s still something worthy of respect👍

I'm sorry, I have a problem with the phrase "thank you for your service" in general but especially here. It sounds like his trauma would be an important contribution to something bigger that would be worth it, but that is not the case. As a German/European, I want to address something that has been always on my mind, when talking about the military service and military culture in the US. I think the "thank you for your service" attitude and celebration of the military service in American media and elsewhere enables these institutions which do the "carrot dangling" of the army with healthcare and education, as you mentioned it. A more critical view might help highlighting what is wrong with the military as an institution that lures Americans in who can't afford the too expensive healthcare and education system.

These type of talks are what we need in society. We need deep talks where we care about each other and the world around us. I feel like so many people are numb to the world we live and don’t explore too far from the screens in front of their face. I greatly encourage Justin to apply for extracurricular activity grants for his daughter through the nonprofit Our Military Kids!! Thank you for your service! ❤💙
When he said he’s talked about these things in therapy……that made my heart soar. Veterans deserve mental health care, too! ❤️
Thank you, Justin, for being an advocate for therapy. So many people, especially men, don't seek help because they think they'll be viewed as weak. That stigma needs to stop. Theray is so damn important. It took my fiance years to get up the courage to see one. He's still seeing the same same one every week and is seeing the benefits. I have C-PTSD and severe depression, which is a whammy of a combo. I'm, unfortunately, unresponsive to antidepressants thanks to being on so many different ones since i was 15. I'm 41 now. My last hope is Ketamine.
I understand a lot of what he's going through. Abandoment issues still haunt me thanks to my past traumas. My therapist doesn't think i have BPD, though i do have some symptoms. She says it's just related to my trauma. One thing she said that i thought was odd was that, in her experience, people with BPD tend to be narcissistic. Justin here doesn't display that trait at all, unless he's in a manic state, but that comes with being bipolar. So it's interesting that she has that view. Of the 9 traits of BPD, narcissism isn't one of them.
Anyway, this was yet another great video, Chris. Keep up the good work.

I love how this man is so real about BPD. As a person who's diagnosed with it I resonated with most of the things he said. The biggest challenge is not to be reactive.
I have bipolar disorder and ptsd as well. What a journey! Thank you for opening up and sharing! When I was diagnosed, I felt so alone, and still do. I don't know anyone with bpd. There isn't any handbook on how to deal with it or what to expect. I definitely went down the path of hurting myself. I would feel so depressed and numb, I literally put my entire hand in a boiling 5 gallon pot of oil. I barely felt it. If you know anyone with bipolar disorder. Please show grace. Research what it is we go through. We have to deal with the instability of each day. It's so frustrating. For me, I try really hard to stay on top of my meds and share with those close to me how I'm feeling. When I'm really depressed, if I'm having a hard time doing things, it's not because I'm lazy, it's just so hard. Sometimes I can overcome it and sometimes I can't. But, we try. We try really hard! So much love out there to all of my BP homies out there!!!

Wow, this was so packed with great info to understand these disorders. This man is a perfect example of someone “doing the work” to heal, grow and evolve. He is pushing through cultural, social and family pressure to heal. I see you, and the sun sees you. Thank you for honesty and your service then and now that you are educating an infinite amount or people on how to successfully navigate these disorders. And I don’t just mean those with them, but their loved ones, friends and colleagues as well.
That was a very honest video, I’m glad he turned his life around ❤

This was a perfect interview in my eyes.
This man is absolutely inspiring. I just got diagnosed with pmdd and cptsd and am currently looking for a therapist.
I'm dealing with severe depression as well so it can be difficult getting that motivation.
But this has really helped me, a lot. Thank you for sharing with us

Justin is very articulate and his self awareness is really commendable. 🙌🏼He clearly works hard on himself and seems like a great person. It must be pretty exhausting to deal with this stuff, very brave of him to deal with it all head on and talk about it. Great interview. Best of luck to him ❤
This was eye-opening to me. I totally agree with people on the outside needing to show people patience, it is extremely important. Also never listen to anyone who has never been through depression/anxiety etc, they will never understand. Listen to proper professionals and one you can talk to. Thankyou for sharing.
Omg your cat looks adorable! I'm an artist myself and generally we are quite empathetic and soft. I can imagine war must be the very worst thing for us to go through. I wish you so much peace and light in your life. 💜
👆 he's got all psychedelic stuffs, he real and ships worldwide
He was so wonderfully articulate and self aware. I learned a lot from this. I’ll be praying for this young brotha.
I’m glad Justin opened up like this. This was helpful in understanding people with these diagnoses & education. I feel like compassion is the key sharing joy in life ,so thank you for telling your story Justin ❤

"Come as you are, not as you 'should' be" UGH this interview was so incredible - I could listen to this man speak forever. I hope more children are blessed with parents who put in work improving themselves.
Thank you for sharing your story with everyone, Justin. This can help so many people that are struggling with similar issues by just knowing that other people deal with the same issues and that there is help for them. Again, thank you Justin.
These stories need to be shared more
I would like to thank this man for protecting the freedoms I enjoy every day. Another great interview SBSK! Love your channel, Chris. 😎
Has there ever any country invaded usa ?never heard of this.
@@arbuznafiji yes, Japan technically invaded during ww2 lul but the reason no post ww2 invasion has occurred is because people like Justin make America a world super power
@@arbuznafiji It's not invasions, but instead serving to fight against enemy countries in foreign areas in order to attempt to stop possible invaders and help allied countries from being conquered and turned hostile. An example of this was the killing of Osama Bin Laden. He wasn't actively invading our country, but he was a leading terrorist and had the chance to group up others and attack our country. Our army is a preventative force, and while they aren't protecting our country itself, they go through hard training and do indeed get things done.

Look..out 👆👆for the handle above he got shrooms, LSD, iboga, ketamines, c😇ke, cannabis, psych, meds, DMT trips, acid chocolate 🍫 bars, and he ships!!!!
articulate young man
I love this guy's energy. He is obviously dealing with a lot but still comes off very articulate, empathetic and intelligent. Wishing you peace
Justin, first of all, we share BPD, BiPolar 2 & PTSD, differently from yours, but I do get constant nightmares of what happened to me when I was young. You're 100 % correct & valued about your feelings about suffering with Borderline Personality Disorder. I, too, have NO skin, per say, always overly emotional & feel no control. I really feel for you & I hope your future gets much better.

This is one of the most insightful interviews I've ever watched. This war vet is absolutely phenomenal. I could literally be talking myself having some of the same diagnosis. Stay strong...manners and respect to you sir.
This is an amazing interview! He's very aware, he explains his diagnoses & symptoms very well & I could also tell he's done therapy & DBT before he mentioned it. Thank you so much for sharing!💯❤️👏🏾
He also said:
"I want people to come as they are & not as they should be."
