26:56 He’s got the chain going underneath the lower chain guide, instead of thru it.
good catch.
YT professionals.
34:43 He actually rode it that way. I would not let this guy work on my wheelbarrow.
@@EarthSurferUSA you never make mistakes
@@EarthSurferUSA Then why are you watching his channel then?? keyboard warrior I am guessing ??? BOG OFF if you don't like what he is doing to be honest and don't forget !!! At one time like all of us YOU could not wipe your own arse. Be an optimist not a pessimist !!! JOG ON mate ha ha life is about learning, EVERY DAY🤣😂🤣😂
hey man i got a non running bike and got it running all my self and i am only 17 years old your videos gave me that motivation ❤
Awesome. Keep working on stuff. These are skills that last a lifetime. Good going, Brother.
This channel is better than tv. Honestly
Almost every youtube channel is better than tv govt propaganda .
@@nomasker1360 No shortage of propaganda on YT either, and plenty of censorship. Front page is full of it. That is why YT is here. In fact, that is what TV was for from its beginning. Like cell phones, we have no idea who invented it. But from my brief study of who invented the TV, I found that the guy who invented the picture tube would not let his kids watch TV because of government propaganda.
@@EarthSurferUSA At least on internet its all sides heard . For now until the lefties ruin that too .
💯
I’m not a big fan of motorcycles but I love watching you wrench on them, you make great videos I truly enjoy them your a genius with these engines!!
I was thinking the same thing. I apply lessons learned from motorsports repair, spark, fuel, and compression, to car, truck, lawnmower, and snowblower
Anyone can do it
I also love watching his videos... definitely good therapy for me... I love working on bikes also
He didn’t put the chain on rite!!! It’s not through the rear bottom chain guide!!! It’s skipping the the chain
Dude is a pro at gassing the s*** out of it when it’s cold 🥶 ⛽️
This is so true 😂
@@Sweendawg32 especially after a fresh rebuild 🤡😂
Well if it breaks he can fix it at least 😂
His bike tho but true
@@jdirtbike19onxboxthe fact that it's his bike has no relevance to what we are talking about. No shit it's his bike. What point were you trying to make there
Need to put the chain through the rear chain guide
Not many people can do that, you amaze me with every video giving inspiration to others keep up the great work we love it
Thousands of people can do what he doing. Just look it up. And with bigger engines with more cylinders more gears.
I'm fairly certain the chain needs to be routed through the rear chain guard, not underneath it.
Ditto!
im pretty sure its worn all the way through and just looks like it cos theres no bottom. needs to be replaced.
no its not, because its worn, so its open guide now
part needs replace
@@tna--I don't believe the OM chain guide was open like that. There should be a rubber in there that the chain rides on top of.
ive seen bikez in the past that they have worn through the rubber and all the way through the metal at the bottom. if not checked.
Might need to move that throttle needle one click down. Seem a big groggy in that mid to high range. But more importantly, CHECK THE FLOAT HEIGHT! Im telling you, you will never get a good tune without checking that first thing!
Edit: Also By the sounds of it, it either needs a new plug or the coil contacts needs to be cleaned (Misfired between strokes) I posted a video if any of you want to hear what that may sound like on a 2T (Read Discrpition for detailed info on why). Both are super easy to do. This bike has insane potential. What an absolute steal!
Yeah, kudos to Joe for getting it running but that thing is running like a basket of ass!!!
Yep
Bro rebuilt the entire engine and didn’t bother looking at the carburetor.?!?
@@OffroadTakeover8 he swapped the jets. He cleaned so many carbs in the past so its hard to say that he didnt look at, probably just didnt feel like filming it. idk Who knows.
Definitely some serious out-of-order editing going on. First, clutch goes on with the primary gear missing, and I’m laughing lol, then next clip clutch hat is on, and low and behold the primary gear is on haha.
You missed the chain "under" the rear sprocket chain guide. So simple that nobody would guess could be wrong, only a couple people on here saw it. Take a deep breath before you see that, because you will laugh yourself out of oxygen. I can't believe he did that myself. I think mankind is doomed.
@@EarthSurferUSA I posted that one separately. You replied to it lol
But it runs
I like the variety of machines you work on because you aren't afraid to tear into something new and work through it.
His skill, and patience, are astounding. For many projects, I'd have taken a match or sledgehammer too early on.
I enjoy watching you troubleshoot. Don't sweat the negativity. It says much more about them than it does you. I enjoy your content very much.
You might want to revisit that chain routing, Joe...
Chain needs to go through the rear chain guide.
no its not, its an open guide you cant go through
Great job on the diagnosis and the rebuild. I loved riding those CR’s back in the day. My last dirt bike was an 89’ CR250, rode the hell out of it until it was stolen in the mid 90’s. Never got it back. Decided to pull the plug on dirt bikes. After seeing and hearing you rip that little 125 around a bit brought back a few memories. Should be a nice bike once you get it dialed in. Great job on the video!
I thought it was a yammy 😂looks like one
Great video. But i don't understand why you do all that and not taking the time to clean everything properly.
The tube in the silencer is broken off. You should weld it back on to the pipe/cap going in. 🤘🤘
I follow a variety of channels, but yours is one of the most anticipated. Enjoy your content. Keep up the good work and thanks for the quick updates.
The nut that holds basket sounds like there was sand in the threads? Or something gritty😮 great video joe
Yeah was painful to watch😢
Made me cringe, listening to that grit in threads. He really needs to do a better job parts cleaning prior to assembly. He needs a parts washer.
He's a honey badger
@@kernelbadness wtf? 😂
Half ass job for sure
I was wondering when you were going to put the main gear on and then poof. It was on without taking the clutch basket back off👍 satisfaction of bringing something back alive is a drug. Stay high my friend 😊
That chain need to go through the guide on the swing arm mate… great build
saw that,.... easy to make mistake
@@aneighbor8374 The problem is the guide is worn through and there is no bottom to it! lol
personally i would have changed the crank seals while it was apart. also, you left some old gasket remnants between the case halves. its a waste of time doing jobs like this if youre not going to do the fundamental things
Pipe is broke off in the silencer.weld it on were it comes in.
I don't ride dirt bikes but I've always wanted to. I'm a fan of the old 2 strokes. I love the sound, smell, and the smoke. They seem very peppy at high rpm too. Nice work on the rebuild of everything.
the chain is outside the swingarm guide after replacement. not good.
I would say more links will need to come out 😂
Aviation sealant is better than tube UltraBlack , plus it has a brush on the cap for application . I used it on VW engines in the 80's and since it worked well, i use it for any seal job or gasket adhesive. Very thin surface height, solvent resistant, fuel and oil resistant.
It has never dried in the plastic can either.
I for one, representing the ghost of technologies past, always wonder "Where's the Form A Gasket (think blue stuff)?" Used mostly for valve covers and carburetors.
Im sure u cant get any of that anymore they quit making anything decent
I use that stuff too. Also do vw stuff. It's good stuff, and I never worry about a little chunk breaking loose and clogging an oil passage
Stag Wellseal Jointing Compound used to stop leaky British motorcycles and possibly developed by Rolls Royce
Is any sealant specified? The thin green aramid fiber gaskets are impregnated with resin or NBR. They shouldn't need sealants with clean flat mating surfaces, and have the best longevity on stressed assemblies when installed uncoated.
Old 'paper' gaskets were close to actual kraft paper and did need sealant.
Your excellent at what you do ! Wow, incredible work Joe !!!
Hey just a heads up on the chain routing. Route it through the chain stay you have it underneath. I love your videos keep doing what you do
You didn't notice the bottomless chain guide in either video? It clearly needs a new one.
You've given me so much confidence in rebuilding my son's bike.. been dreaming of riding with him for a long time now unfortunately these new bikes and even an old bike that runs are just way too expensive so I have to buy bikes that don't run and try to make them run.. thank you for your videos sir..
this channel has to be some of the best content on youtube
Something you may consider, I spray down my exhaust pipes with black barbecue grill hi temp paint. Cheap and effective! Great job as always!
I had the same problem on my brothers rm85, just raise up the needle position and it should be good. It's always something small I noticed lol
Those carpenter hammers sure come in handy. Wy invest in a ball peen hammer when a carpenter hammer is already near by!
So good to watch it helps me learn more about bikes and how to fix them
Important to note: Whenever using gasket maker or sealant on the reed cage, cases or head it must be a gasoline resistant product. Otherwise the fuel will cause it to break down, create an air leak then seize the engine. No fun. Great video. Thanks.
I like that grey permatex in the stubby can that's pressurized, makes great gaskets. Seal super tight too.
Does anyone else hear the grit / sand dirt when he assembles things. I’ve learned a lot about how to diagnose small engines and repair them. But O does he have a lot to learn about cleanliness and how to use the right tools the right way.
Love the sound of the 2 stroke. Nice job fixing it up. Love Honda CR s
Sounded more crispy immediately after the new jets. My son and I love your videos!
You gotta love the powerband when it kicks in. 2 Strokes!
Good job Joe , i always enjoy your videos , a recommendation would be always take your trailer with you when you are alone on your land so you do not risk hurting yourself unloading any bike out of the back of your beautiful truck. just a thought
Man, I wish you had a vapor blasting cabinet to clean those parts like new before assembly. Great work By the way. Scott in Southern Oregon
Nicely done, bike does not look to bad for being a 93'. I like the aftermarket plastics kit on there too.
I know there’s the super scraper but some type of wheel on a drill will work
Love these vids and watch them constantly. I have to mention I dont get some of the procedures in this way. When I get a bike to work on the FIRST THING I do every time is drain the gas tank to bone dry and clean the carb(s). Usually I put a filter inline but if this isnt done you are really shooting yourself in the foot since crud in the tank will just keep clogging the carb no matter how many times you clean it. I would not even try to start a bike til I did these simple things.
Keep up these vids as they are hugely entertaining and for a wrench like me very relaxing and peaceful to watch.
Oh yeah maybel consider wearing a little gear when you ride so my 9yr old son doesnt have to keep telling me "he should be wearing gear" and to keep the next gen of dirtbikers safe.
what I’ve learned is there are a lot of crap builders out here his work speaks for itself great work
The chain is under the rear chain guard. Not sure you have noticed.
Amassing job thanks for all your hard work, I learn so much from your vids
Tunning / Jetting ( GAS - Oil ) Mix along with Air Screw and Needle settings are a matter to be addressed both Separately and Together. Part of Checking to see where things need to be. Pro - Circuit and FMF differ from stock. LIKE the Changing of the Air Filter element. Are YOU running 87, 89, 91, 93 Octane ??? What type of 2 Stroke oil are you using? The Spark Plug could also need to be changed for the heat range. Hot - Cold - Stock - Etc. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO ??? One thing at a time. Get the Exact Jets ( PRO - Circuit ) recommends. Water in the gas or Poor Float bowl settings will cause different issues to be resolved. CHECK ( Double - Check ) Then Check it all again. a two minute test run will NOT Conclude or Exclude a single item. The Actual Running temp of the engine VERSUS Cold Start or Over heating will effect a lot in the tunning process.
Mechanics and Tuners Rely on Actual FACTS Not Fiction. The Seat of YOUR pants or What it sounds like can vary greatly by location , altitude, and time of day with the Air quality being the ( Constantly ) Changing factor. Cold air - Warm Air - etc.
Today you di d Part of the puzzle. YET, ( IF ) the GOAL is to get it ( RIGHT ) there is More work to be done. Start with the basics. Empty all the fuel out of the tank and the carb as well. GET Fresh Gas and watch the MIX as close as possible to be where it should be In the Middle of the range Not high or low. Verify the proper main jet, Pilot then set the idle screw and Needle accordingly. Warm up the bike without Driving it for at least a few moments. Then Shut it DOWN Wait about 15 to 20 minutes. Then do it again.
After TWO cycles now let it warm up by itself. Sitting / Resting. See if the idle increases or if it starts to stumble all on its own. Shut it down and let it completely cool off.
(IF) You followed what was Stated for the UPGRADES and have everything set PER the Manufacturer Specs. Consider what you did with the sprockets both front and rear.
How a Bike takes off from a stop versus its running to top speed total will greatly vary by the Ratio being used. Its NOT important what came stock as it is what CURRENTLY is being used. To many front teeth versus Not enough back teeth. The BIKE will preform Different if each one of this steps is Out of Whack.
TUNNING is a Combination of both Sitting and driving.
This is a Used bike. The Previous owner could have switched out each item and made it work against the upgrade. See it all the time. I got a Del on this so I switched out that. No Worries it will all come out in the end ( WRONG Wrong WORNG ) Now before you go BLOWING off all that has been said ) REMEBER what it was and was NOT doing when you first got it . Each things builds on from the last. its like math. 1+1 = 2 ( YET ) 1 x 1 = 1 . IF ONE THIJNG is OFF / Wrong then you keep trying to fix something else ( IT WILL NOT be what it should be when you are not dealing with the WHOLE problem.
Rule of Thumb. Adjust / change ( ONE ) thing at a time. before adding or taking away from where you are now. Look at what came on it stock. The Teeth Count Front and d rear. The Carb size and also the proper jets for the upgrades. Some Products will say. Tuning / jetting will be effected by adding these After market products.
Ech step effects the next. Go through stock settings. IS what you are now trying to change the proper way the NEW products recommend ??? from what ( I ) can see on the internet. The previous owner did Little to Fix the problem yet added a lot more issues then what ( HE) started with. Ignore this Advice. YOU WILL ONLY BE ADDIGN MORE PROBLEMS GOING FORWARD as before....
Short version, set up your air screw for idle and off idle
Select pilot for smooth transition to mid.
Set needle for smoothest mid transition to main.
Select main for smoothest top.
I’m pretty new to watching your videos, but man I love these. Super informative. I hope to one day have the knowledge on 2 strokes that you do.
Good Job Joe...can't kill those Honda's 🏁🏆
That's the right set-up on that Kehan carburetor. like that it's off of A snowmobile engine. So it's going to be A totally different carburetor set-up than the stock factory style of one. So you're wrong on the jetting sizes for that carburetor though. Just saying those original jets belong in that carburetor for sure. I know cause the plastic piece inside of it those are inside of snowmobile carburetor's and jet ski carburetor's to. Jus like dirt bikes one also the only difference is the jetting sizes for sure. I went to A vocational school for small engines trust me it's 👍 right bro. Clean them out put them back inside and then try it out. I highly recommend cleaning out that entire carburetor first due to the water issues as we'll then retry it out.
Hiya Joel your lucky chain ain’t come off and locked up on you chain not running through chain guide hope you read this cheers 👍
Looks like you had an awesome time testing lol, heard the giggles.👍😂
There's things I see this guy do that I dont agree with in many videos. I dont get on here pointing it out looking for attention. We all have our own way of doing things that will NEVER make everyone 100% happy. I turn wrenches a lot and work on a lot of 4 wheelers and dirtbikes . Im sure if I uploaded videos here , many folks would call me out on things. This guy has the confidence to do the work, record , edit and upload. Every single person that I've seen shit talk in the comment section , dont even have any videos uploaded let alone any dirtbike content.
Miss mine. Bought it brand new and was the last race bike I owned. Nice to see one resurrected.
Bump to 165, good gas, good to go!! Great little bike, awesome video Joe!!
18:25 I know i should get out more but goddamn this was so so satisfying.
Always love the older bikes😎
On the mid-90's Honda 125's turning the choke knob till it idles leans out the pilot circuit. Back it down till it just dies from idle. No idle. Install a 1368 needle 2nd clip down. Much better bottom end.
I have to say I have ZERO interest in bikes but I love your methodical approach to repair and diagnoses
Hi joe I’m lan from northern lreland love your videos have learnt heaps watching them love seeing vinny keep up the gud work
Awesome job joe!!!⭐️🇺🇸
Amazing work once again man always seem to amaze me lol
There is a plastic piece that goes on the swing arm to keep the chain from rubbing. Also one on the bottom of the swing arm. I have a 1998 CR125 also.
love the videos! look forward to the day you pick up another 500cc
I would love to see it
Ultra slick is hard to beat good stuff and the maxima assembley grease is good too and i love it has a real head gasket instead of o rings
Sounds good Joe!! Tons of power...
Check the float hight first, especially as it was flooding into the pipe, you need proper float hight, before you can jet and needle it properly, great buy man, nice bike, 👍🏻
Love watching your videos mate
A super fast and easy way to remove gaskets is with a brass wire brush. I use it on my my grinder but drills work also.
Was there ever a doubt,,Nice job as usual
Brilliant channel always enjoy your videos 🇬🇧
Raise the clip one notch, dropping the needle one position, and that should fix all that blubbering while trying to get on the pipe.
Another top upload joe (brilliant)
Excellent rebuild video.
The bike definitely sounds good. I definitely think it would look better with new plastics maybe even a new pipe and new grips. Other than that the bike looks good and sounds good but definitely think I could use new plastics maybe a new pipe and maybe some new grips. I love watching all your videos. Keep the awesome content coming.
Those grooves in clutch basket fingers!!
bro you need to put the chain through the chain gard like it needs to be love the rebuild and lets bring back 2strokes
Another one saved. Good job young man.
Just want to see if you put the chain through the chain slide on the swing arm. On the video you had it on the bottom, and it needs to go through the slide.
He rolled it off the truck at the end, and rode it that way. Unbelievable. It is called a "chain guide", not "slide".
Oh yeah and as stated elsewhere the chain is on the wrong side of the rear guide. Love these vids man
Great job as always, i would let you work on anything!!! Very meticulous and you care that its done right!!!
Great I got my 2vintage fix 👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
you are the best Mechanic joe buddy wonderful video bro it's very educational I have learn allot ever since I start watching your video I have a 1998 Suzuki 350dr I will begin my project very soon all I need is some new parts
Great video as usual ! did notice you put the clutch on BEFORE the engine gear !!! been there done that myself ! lol
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Right On
there’s all this praise in the comments and nobody noticed he put the chain under the guide 🤣 yall must be amazing at working on your bikes
I saw James Condon using a small razor scraper with a handle worked a treat to scrape gaskets
How did you feel about not replacing the crank seals?
Blow it up and do it again 😂
He put a crank with bad bearings back in too
Hey guys , Joe knows everything and takes no advice from anybody. How dare you question him ……. 😂
He even said uh oh to a hot rods crank and left it lmao
Ok I'm not bashing him at all he has dun good for himself on here.
Yes there is thing that he does that I don't do. But I've done over 50 cr250 motors over the year. I do thing alot different
Like the carb dose come apart and cleaned to see what's going on in it. Rule number 1
This is a must.
I always ohm my coils to see what they are at. If it's not putting enuff spark out then you are chasing jetting problems. And the caps go out fast.
It was a Numura piston.
White wrist pin. $50 to $60 China
The thing that fails on them is the wrist pin bearing. The skirts crack fast .When it does you loose just about everything. Ive taken mini motors apart with wiseco/ hot rod parts. With holes in cases and so on. $399 to $450 China bottom end kits At the end of the day try to stay away from the China stuff..
I use OEM bearings seals crank/ Pro x and im paying $450 or i put a new rod on the crank thats in the motor
$120 for rod
To press it on $100
What a shame, that bike has Black plastic's.. 93's had that almost pink plastic, one of the best looking CR's in my opinion!! Thanks for bringing it back to life!! A friend of mine had a 93' that had the same problem, I think it was the Stater and or flywheel???
Sounds alot better after that jet change think ur right a little tweak on the needle and that bike is gonna be sweet . Anonther thing that may affect it is i don't know how much the repacking of the exhaust affects the recommended jets aswell worth a look into it
pro tip to any 2stroke head is hand true the head on thick granite or glass it`s amazing mod start with 320 and go to 1000 don`t go past any profiles
Nice work Joe👍
Good assembly tutorial 🔧
Some 2 strokes have gaskets, others do not. I still have a large collection of 2 stroke motocross bikes without case gaskets. They each used their manufacturer's proprietary sealant. I've found a better sealant from an automobile manufacturer and have used it on all of them.
We try not to use single ringers, prefer 2.
Get that needle position at first notch. Sweet ride.
Awesome video and great work
Damn bro u are a master mechanic that is alot of work u did hats off💯👍👌
