great vid brother, just bought a 06 660 and am investigating a whirring noise at idle from the clutch side. just doing my homework before I dig in or wondering if anyone else has seen the whirr at idle..ps..my one way clutch im pretty sure works fine as I still have good downhill engine braking...love the mice..

Hey ruyguy, not knocking your setup at home, mine is nearly the same, I'm a dealership tech for arctic cat, and the cats all share the same cvt setup for 450cc to 1000cc, my experience is that if the shaft area where the sprag runs on the clutch is warn at all or pitted then emery paper isn't going to help much, just delay your return to replace it again (I've done it myself and results have not been good) also check for wear on the drum the bearing rides inside of, typically if one is warn the other is too. I usually just replace the clutch, bearing and drum, but those are warranty jobs, and like you said the dealership level can get pricey for the non warranty customer. Anyways man glad to see you diggin in, keep posting the vids, maybe when I get a vid posted I'll shoot it your way for comments! See you on the trails! Arctic cat 550 ltd, eps. Thanks for the additional tip. I always like hearing from actual techs when it comes to bike maintainability. When i go to a dealership to talk turkey about buying a bike, i don't want to talk to the guys who are pushing a sale on me. I want to talk to the techs who deal with the breakdowns, the problems, and the future issues a model may have. And thats great to hear the Cats have roughly the same setup. Hopefully some of my subs who run Cats will take something home from this too.

Very similar to the cats... When I did mine a couple months ago I forgot to drain the oil first and that made a big mess... We all make mistakes lol. Might as well ask you a question well I'm I just recently snorkeled my bike and I noticed That the clutch housing was getting hotter than normal. Is this common after putting snorkels on ? Or should I take it from 1.5 pipe up too 2" pipe? If your ever up around the rawdon area let me know it would be nice to get out for a ride with guys sometime. I have a 2006 grizzly 660 and I got a rumble or vibration in the bike that u find on your feet on the foot pegs! It's worst when your travelling at low speeds, like 20-30 km/h! Wonder if you ran into this problem
first thing i would try would be looking at the carb. if the jetting is plugged then that would cause the mid range to not put enough fuel through. is it suttering during movement only or will the engine die out in nueutral when you run through the rpm range?
Great video man! A bit off topic but what tires are you running? I'd like something capable of dealing with some mud but more comfortable on trails than my radial outlaws
Thanks for watching. These are Kenda Bear Claw HTRs. im only running 26s but as you can see they run true to size. Honestly they have been the best and most comfortable all-terrain tire with great mud capability i have ever used. I have used lots of tires in my lifetime so far.
i have a 1998 grizzly 600 that i clean the primary and put new grease in it and put new oil seal in it now with it all back together it takes off when you put it in gear . the one way clutch bearing make this happen if put in wrong
yes it would as it would lock your two clutches together (both your wet and your CVT) my suggestion would be to remove the case and double check the position of the bearing. There will be a mark on the bearing itself and it is to face OUTWARDS towards you.

There wasn't too many issues with the 660's made after 2004. it took them two years to work out the kinks. Id look closely for any play int eh front driveshaft from the engine to the front diff. in 2003 they switched from a U-joint style to a cv style driveshaft. If not maintained the splines will get dirt, grit and rust in them and wear them out very quickly. Its not like the CV splines in your wheels and diff. they tend to get a bit of lubrication. Correct valve adjustment is key to the performance, if you get the bike, adjust the valves right away. There are three intakes and two exhausts. 5 Valve head. Intake .10mm Exhaust .15mm Just do a good general overview of the bike before you buy. Make sure there are no hack jobs on the wire harness and that there are no chaffed wires located near the rectifier Cheers
my sheaves spin all the time while idleing. clanks when you put it in gear. is my bearing in backwards ? Which way should you be able to freely turn sheaves by hand while enjine is not running ?
Have you checked what RPM your bike is idling at? A higher Idle will engage both your wet and your sheavs. I would check the RPMs first, however if it still clunks into gear and spinds while at idle afterwards, i would investigate your clutching system (wet clutch) to make sure nothing is jammed .
Question I just got my motor back from being rebuilt. If you had to pick. Which seal did they either roll or screw up. I filled my oil after install test rode for 3min almost all my oil is now in clutch case. Its a 2004 grizz 660 any help would be so appreciated. I'm in a tiny rural village on kodiak island Alaska. My first check would be to get yourself a multi-meter and check the battery voltage with the atv key in the off position, then in the on position while not starting it. you should have a reading of 12 to 12.5 volts, around that area. That indicates a good battery for your base to work from. Now start the ATV, you should be reading around 13 to 14.5V any higher or lower and your charging system has a fault. A fluttering head and tail light to me would indicate a Regulator/Rectifre starting to falter. Its job is to take a the higher voltages from the stators output and regulate it down to a 12v operating system. The make sure thats the issue, you can disconnect your stator wires at your regulator and check the resistance in accordance to your service manual. if everything is in range, and you do not have an open circuit (would indicate a no charge on the battery situation" then i would look into replacing your Rectifire/Regulator module.

I came across a problem. 660 grizz 05 .changed rear cv axels and drive shaft , put it back together tried starting it .no start . put key in ignition , instrument cluster lights up, says I'm in neutrial but not a sound or click . was wondering if stick shifter is in wrong place compaired to shaft causeing me this greif
Wayne. I would try to hold the starter button down and rear brake lever at the handlebar while moving your shifter (nice if you have 3 hands) from one position to another to see if you are correct about the shift linkage being off. Sometimes you your indicator light will illuminate but your sensor may not pick up that you are in the correct gear and create a no start situation. The second things i would investigate is if you are getting power to your starter relay (located drivers side "left" near the battery) you should see two 20 or 30 amp fuses opposed each other. If you are not hearing any "click" when you turn your key, but your dash is lighting up, also check your ignition relay, located in your relay bank. Checking relay operation is a bit involved but can save hundreds of dollars in parts later on by replacing a $10 relay thats gone bad. There are plenty of tutorials on how to check Bosh style 5 pin relays correctly.

I know this is 3 months late , but i just seen this comment. hopefully you figured it out right now, but if not, Check your pullys and belt for glazing (shinny) if not, you should check your one way bearing for excessive ware.

Nice work. Helped me to know what to expect on our 88 ton press with wet clutch. Hopefully it's just the bearing and not the plates...

Was the wheeler making a loud noise when it was idling down before you replaced the one way clutch?
What's the torque on them I got a 2003 grizzly 660. I just replaced the one way bearing so what would be the torque spec on the gaskets ?
you should of added a slug kit it will save your wet clutch from wearing as fast check into it.

is it only the one way bearing that makes scrapping noise when u let of gas and slight miss on engine braking?
The scraping/whining noise yes. The Slight miss i'm unsure of why the bike would be doing that.
think belts worn also handle bar wobble do u think bottom berring could be worn!
I've already had to replace the bottom steering bushing on my grizzly as well as the top bushing. It makes a big difference.
