i’m from LATAM and here “ugly betty” (the original show) is HUGE, the cultural impact is insane. When “ugly betty” entered netflix LATAM it was number #1 for weeks, people was watching it all over again, new generations were watching it for the very first time too. Totally crazy.
And also, today we can finally call America Ferrera an Academy Award Nominee 🎉.
I'm from Brazil and the same applies here. We even had a brazilian version of Ugly Betty.

When I tell you till this day having bangs and glasses is a fashion statement in Colombia, or how even years later every time the telenovela has a rerun it stills becomes the most watched show in the country, or how even years later it is still so relevant that meme culture quotes the show all the time.

To be fair to the writers a little bit, I think you could read Betty giving Daniel the credit for the photoshoot as both a nice gesture and a tactical move on her part. By giving Daniel the credit she ensures her own position as his assistant by protecting his position at the company, and now he's doubly indebted to her because not only did she save the whole photo shoot but she also saved his reputation. So even though the two don't have this deep connection yet, it's both a decision that benefits Betty and shows us as the audience that she's a kind person

I never got into Ugly Betty when it was on TV (not sure why, maybe I was too young to appreciate it anyway) but I binge watched it during my lunch breaks from work during COVID and literally made my day 10x better every time I watched it...such a great show! Love the cast, all the late 2000s fashion and songs, the DRAMA. So glad I finished it before they took it off streaming.

My mother and grandmother would often watch the original Columbian Telenovela "Yo Soy Betty, la fea" , and it would be often replayed in Mexican channels. THEN live watching the Mexican adaption of that same Columbian novela named "La Fea Mas Bella" AND THENNN just a few channels over in the American side, UGLY BETTY?!

YESSSSS!!! I’m an Ugly Betty (Colombian version) STAN and I like watching all the other ugly Betty type shows. I didn’t like this one because it felt like it was going nowhere after 3 seasons so I stopped watching but it was still fun!
I remember watching the Heroes pilot when it came out on TV because there was so much hype, and then it got to the sink scene. Seeing that traumatized my 13 year old self so bad that I immediately turned it off and never watched the show again. Good to know it was as impactful as I remembered.
