  • I take a stroll along Kobe's "Ramen Kaido" - an area with hundreds of ramen shops serving noodles of every variety - and try some varieties that are gaining popularity in Japan. If you've never tried tsukemen or tori-paitan, check out the video. This is all a 40 minute train ride from Osaka.

    My girlfriend tried to get me to try ramen, so many times, I just wasn't interested. In August, on her birthday, she decided she wanted ramen for her birthday dinner, I couldn't say no, could I? WELL! since that day, we have gone back to the same restaurant in Auckland , for ramen, EVERY week!! Paitan Ramen (reduction) is now one my all time favourite dishes! Absolutely LOVE ramen!

    03:55 LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE how you create your order and pay, then give it to the cooks. Excellent idea, and you can't say the waiter got your order wrong since you were the one making the order. Flawless.

      Also makes eating out significantly more affordable. You can eat actually cooked meals in Japan for less than you'd pay for a shitty combo meal at MacDonalds in the West.

    Will be in Korea next year, hoping I get a layover in Tokyo again...need to try some real Japanese ramen. Last time I was there, the only excitement was almost being squashed by a bus because I forgot they drive on the other side of the road. = P

      He mostly likely didn't. A lot of travel shows make it seem like they eat it all in one day, but its really filmed over multiple. Not really sure why its a standard practice with this type of show, but there it is.

      it's actually rude not to slurp when you eat it, and Japanese people take it very seriously! On the top of that, Adam even mentions this in the video, so please just dig into it more and listen to what you're watching :)

  • @rEpTiLeGuY1000

    • @adamliaw
      @adamliaw  Před 6 lety +24

      Yeah, she did. Which is exactly why at 4:26 I apologise to her for slurping the soup, because in Japan slurping ramen isn't bad manners - it's exactly how it's supposed to be eaten. Did you even watch the video?

    • @rEpTiLeGuY1000
      @rEpTiLeGuY1000 Před 6 lety

      Adam Liaw No, sorry. I had to stop half way through. Your slurps were killing me. I understand that slurping is good manners in Japan , but I just don't see how your viewers are going to enjoy the sound of you slurping every 30 seconds. It's just uncomfortable to hear.

    • @adamliaw
      @adamliaw  Před 6 lety +13

      I get your point, but if they don't like the sound of slurping then I suggest they skip ramen in Japan altogether, because they're going to get it a lot worse when they're there.

    • @rEpTiLeGuY1000
      @rEpTiLeGuY1000 Před 6 lety
