Ya know, at one time that was a perfectly good SD40-2, and now look what's happened! Man, that thing sounds odd in notch 8. Sounds like a Sikorski helicopter. Cool to see something different though. Thanks for sharing!
It's weird seeing an old Sd40-2 with radiator fins on the back....
@@charlesgreenwood8229 SD30ECOs have that and SD45
It's funny, you say that, while watching this all I could think of was "why does it sound like a fucking helicopter?" Thought maybe it was the cooling fans, but it just sounds wrong...
@@PowerTrain611Maybe there was a HELICOPTER flying over, ya think?
Sounds like helicopter flying overhead at a couple points
A beautiful brand new upgrade
Fantastic video and footage of these units. Enjoyed watching once again and have a wonderful rest of your evening.(Steve)
Thanks You too!
CSX can now officially slap a bumper sticker on it that says, “ My other EMD is a GE.” It definitely has an odd sound, but I like that it still retains, for the most part, its iconic looks. I’m a SD40-2 fan, so I’m just glad these locomotives are getting a second lease on life, albeit as a rebuilt ECO, rather than being sent to scrap.
It sucks it has a ge engine in it.
Good stuff Stephan
this has got to be the most cursed American diesel
But it looks awesome
Been there many times, nice
That thing sounds like an old ALCO and I love it
very cool!!
I like these they are weird in their own way like The ET44AC it’s smaller cousin
so this what a tier4 Baldwin would sound like!!
That SD24T4 Sounds like a alco
We built that!
It's unfortunate that you did.
I love the horn thats on the SD23T4 to me it sounds like a K3HL . Also are these going to be used on the main or are they mostly for switching operations.
Mostly for witching and transfers.
RL K1L13
Not a big fan of the bell but I do like the design honestly.
I wonder why Wabtec using a 6 cylinder engine instead of 8 like EMD did to some of their repowers like GP20ECOs
Wanted using their own products, not an opposition product. Simple.
because the GEVO engines are more powerful for their size.
The “Franken Forty” does sound like a helicopter.
hey ge briggs and stratton called, they want their engine sound back
That's a fucking inline 6 making more noise than a V16.
Looks like an SD45 to me
how often do they run test trains here?
It varies. It will be busy some weeks, dead some weeks
Where’s the Helicopter? I can’t seem to find it.
There’s a weird putter from the ET23DCM which I can’t seem to wrap my head around…………..
The turbo makes the noise.
The bell sound on 1726 sounds different.
I genuinely don't know how to feel about this thing.
@All Trains Great And Small... i've noticed that E-bell sounded weird than the usual one.. but does it look different??
It looks more compact. The new CMs testing have it and a traditional bell too, not sure why they are using 2 of them.
@@stephankoenig5481... yeah i'm not sure why though??
@@zdthelehighlinerailfan5362 possibly to compare them.
@@stephankoenig5481... Yeah i would probably compare them
The new e-bell is called an Ekyrail E-Bell. Apparently they are more efficient than the regular e-bells. Ekyrails are mostly used on Canadian Railroads.
Besides the noisy GE engine it has Flexicoil trucks not dash 2. Sounds like a Brazilian G 20
Conrail SD40-2s had the earlier trucks.
Who told you ge dont make locos they are the only one still in business .
How is this possible and EMD being rebuilt by GE man this whole world is screwed up
What kind of power plant is it running? And what kind of horsepower does it have?
6 cylinder motor 2300HP
They sound like old Alcos lol
Why did they put a K5hl instead a k5la?
Space on the hood. It also has a rear horn too.
This locomotive is the weirdest one, its not because of the front, the back is a NIGHTMARE. The horn is nice, but why do the bells sound weirdly different.
The back has two bells that form a tritone.
Hm weird but cool something new to the game
Has BL20GH 115 arrived at Wabtec?
Not yet. Waiting for MBTA 1071 too.
@@stephankoenig5481 I see.
Emd sd40-2 +ge gevo v12 motor …..
SD40-2 is great why mess it up
They get old and could use a repower. Just like how CP GP9s have become repowered into CP GP20ECOs
Lol if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em
So it's a RSD-1 on steroids..........
Why must it sound like a helicopter?!
It's a 6-in line prime mover "A tug boat engine " a GEVO of all things, well GE don't make loco's any more , and EMD's engine designs SUCK for emissions, so why not, maybe they'll avoid bankruptcy.
Really hate the Ekyrail E bell
Ugly but still cool!
Really liked these until I saw that they put ekyrail bells on them. Can't stand that sound
It seems it's what CSX is using for e-bells these days.
@@freebrickproductions Yes most all railroads pay for ekyrails as they're cheaper
@east_carolina_rail_photos I like them. They sound better than the regular E-Bells.
Willing to bet these won’t last long
What a waste of a perfectly good sd40-2
Yup not a fan
ANOTHER WAY TO RUIN AN SD40-2! This THING IS UGLIER THAN THE GE BQ23-7 LOCOMOTIVES! AT LEAST THE BQ23-7 LOCOMOTIVES WERE MOER RELIABLE THAN THIS UGLY EXCUSE FOR A LOCOMOTIVE! IT LOOKS TERRIBLE AND IT SOUNDS TERRIBLE! I WILL NOT BE TAKING ANY PICTURES OF THIS COLLECTION OF GE JUNK! I SAY, RESTORE THEM BACK TO WHAT THEY WERE! THIS THING DOES NOT CUT IT AS A LOCOMOTIVE! IT IS A FAILURE!
