8:55 they hit it so quick and violent! Gotta always be careful and ready when freelining cause if the line wraps around the bail it could break it off. Happened to me one time when I first started fishing gags 🤣

thonny, im thinking if you bring 2 grouper rods and one gets rocked put it in a rod holder and wait him out while you are fishing with the other one.

Great video, but you definitely need a proper bait / fillet knife.
I am very surprised that none of our local You Tube fishing folks that live line for grouper use a Penn Spinfisher VI Live Line reel. You set your drag, cast out your bait and activate the Live Line feature that you can set to the free line rate of your choice. It totally eliminates time spent in tightening your free line, flipping the bail and eliminates line tangle. It is a bit heavy in weight, but I'd rather land a fish than cry about the weight. It has a 5.6:1 gear ratio with 30lbs of drag.
Shimano perfected it long ago.
Those live liner reels aren't necessary and just opens you up to more things that can break on the reel but to each his own!

@@Thonny have you tried catching bonita at the skyway? There still out there I think that would make a great video. We where just free lining green back. And they where smoking them. Also the taste amazing as sushi. Don't listen to negative people saying there trash fish.

Just watched a short of man taking a towel and wrapping a towel over the butt of the rod and taking the fishing and wrapping it a few times over the towel then pulling to get the fish unstuck and he was on the Skyway.
