It is finally done. I cannot express how much work and how many hours went into this gigantic Review/Comparison. Please Like and subscribe if you are new to show appreciation for the work put into this video!
Commonwealth Realm Thanks for the review. I am getting my collector edition tomorrow 08:00.
...the first xenoblade had jiggle physics too (them shits were all over Sharla's character); just thought i'd put it out there for all the xenoblade fans that are under the impression that XC1 did not sexualize its female characters. Oh, and i'm not sure i understand the criticism about the anime designs or tropes being a disqualifier to the narrative of the game? that doesn't really make sense to me so a little bit of elaboration would be lovely.
omg that one chick is all boob wtf
Commonwealth Realm
Looks like you're first, so you win a Crown: 👑
You call XC2 a "must play, must own" title on the Switch...well, I'm going to trust you on that. After getting and returning the first game after about a week or two (Don't get me wrong. I enojyed it. It just didn't click with me), I'm in two minds about the sequel. I feel like it REALLY needs a demo, too. :/
Can we all agree Xenobalde chronicles deserves a hd remake
The Architect yes !!!cuz that shit is too expensive to buy now
Ontos YES!
Yes, I hope they make it for the switch soon
It needs a hd Remake at the switch . 720p in Handheld Mode ans 1080p at stock Mode
we already can play the original on Wii Wii U and 3DS so i doubt we'll get one soon at least not before XCX get one (the developers themselves said having interest in doing so and the only inconvenient is founding) and unlike the original xenoblade XCX only playable on WII U which didn't sold well and a lot off Wii U games have been port to switch because of that XCX definitely deserve to be ported before the original for anyone who says otherwise but not saying the original xenoblade is bad
Uhh
My dudes
There’s always been jiggle physics in Xenoblade games
Like have you *seen* Sharla? That shit moves 500 miles whenever she takes a step
*in Sharla's voice* thank you
Vanea was even worse
They probably felt it was more conspicuous due to the overall pandering anime style, and a lot of female blades come into this territory according to what I've seen so far O_o
My Goodness was I not a fan of Vanea. I though Egil had a cool character design, but Vanea just seemed to be there for her jiggle physics.
you mean Vanea was even better
The hardest part about beating Xenoblade 1’s story is it’s harder to throw curveballs at someone who expects it. If you play 1 first anything 2 tries to throw at you will be less surprising.
XadexSquared Good thing I never played the original.
XadexSquared
You played?
Some Kind of Democrat the original is fantastic tho
How long did it take you to get to that point? I played through Symphonia and most of Phantasia, and a little of a few others, but I immediately felt that only after one of their games. I still kind of want to play Legendia, but only because the music is really good. Like it's the only one without Motoi Sakuraba and I dug what little I heard.
I disagree. Nothing in XC2 up until the final two chapters reminded me of XC1 at all.
1. Story
Xenoblade had a better pacing for their story in my opinion. The story immediately hooks you in and keeps you in suspense the entire time, always feeling like you were being threatened. Xenoblade 2 takes a longer time to get to that point, but it was still an interesting enough story. Xenoblade 2 focused more on world building for the first few chapters as well as introducing us to a lot of recurring characters, and it made me more interested in the world and the politics involved. On the other hand, Xenoblade's story was more personal and primal, where your motive is simply revenge, but it becomes something bigger. Xenoblade probably had the bigger WTF moments and plot twists that had a bigger impact on me.
That being said, I think Xenoblade 2 had a stronger ending. I loved the ending of Xenoblade, but Xenoblade 2 made me cry. It actually feel like the games reversed roles between beginning and end. Xenoblade started off as a personal journey which turned into saving the world, while Xenoblade 2 started as wanting to save the world to wanting to find purpose in living. I think the personal aspect of story telling resonates more with me.
One aspect of story that's the most important to me is the characters. Characters are the link between the player (or viewer, or reader, or whatever medium you are experiencing a story through) and make us feel involved in the world. This is a hard pick for me. Xenoblade had the better best characters. Melia, Dunban, and Shulk are my 3 favorites from the original, and the best characters from Xenoblade 2 are not quite at their level. However, I think the average character in Xenoblade 2 is better than the average character in Xenoblade. None of the were outright bad or annoying, and they all had a role to play. Either way, both these games have some of the best characters.
This is a very long section for me, but my overall winner is Xenoblade. I just think the more gripping opening along with the massive plot twists made it have a bigger impact on me overall. Also Melia is my favorite fictional character ever so I may be a little biased.
2. Gameplay
Easily, Xenoblade 2 had the better gameplay. Before I get into that, I will say that Xenoblade 2 had a worse map system. It felt to small for the mini map and the menu map, and the map that takes up the screen I only keep up shortly because it blocks my view, obviously. However, Xenoblade 2 has the superior combat system. Not only is it easier to understand, but it is also more complex (don't ask me how that works). There is more depth and versatility to Xenoblade 2's combat over the original. Any character can take on any role if they have the right Blade for the job, and none of the characters feel pointless. There is more customization for their stats and abilities. Combat is more versatile depending on how you outfitted your characters.
As for music, both games had amazing soundtracks. I think the soundtrack in the later half of Xenoblade 2 tips it over the edge for me. There were so many emotional tracks that played it just really got me invested. I already loved the soundtrack for the original Xenoblade, but Xenoblade 2 somehow matching it and maybe even surpassing it is an incredible feat for me.
3. World
Oh man, this one is difficult. I really loved the world of Xenoblade. Exploring a giant titan where each appendage is a different biome is very unique and felt very fantasy like. Xenoblade 2 does it differently where each individual titan is one biome, which is not quite as interesting as one titan having multiple biome. Still, it makes for some very interesting landscape and scenery to look at. I did mention in the story section that the world of Xenoblade 2 captivated me from the beginning, but so did the original Xenoblade. Both games made me want to learn what their world was like and how it came to be, and both had a huge payoff by the end of the game, where pretty much every question that the game asks had answers within the game. Take notes Final Fantasy XV. I honestly can't pick a winner for this. They are both very good and are around the same level.
So after all that, it ended up as a draw. Well crap. Eh, I'll put Xenoblade as my favorite game of all time and Xenoblade 2 as my 2nd favorite game of all time, because Melia.
Even tho I know your biased since you kinda likee few character in Xenoblade 1 still you managed to get your opinion straight and Fair while being objective.. Nice comparison there..
I disagree that none of the characters are annoying. Tora has some of the most cringe dialogue. That and the dub is very hit and miss.
You described what I feel that I couldnt explain. Thanks!
I agree with everything you said
@@pedrobeckup456 My opinion has since changed and I think they are all peak and it doesn't matter which one is better at what because the whole is greater than the sun of its parts.
Just to let you know that the first game had jiggle physics as well
it was so obvious too!
But it wasn't as in your face as with the blades in 2, we have nothing against jiggle physics, but how in your face they are, taking away attention from the characters.
Commonwealth Realm in the video you made it sound like Xenoblade never had jiggle physics before. Should have started that the first game had it but it wasn't in your face about it.
I personally don't mind it but that's the beauty of opinions.
in your face ? lol you guys complain about the smallest things, aren't you guys or something......
Kid chaor have you played XC2? Pyra‘s chest is so unnecessarily huge, that her arms clip through it during cutscenes. It’s taken their Inspiration from the „wrong“ side of anime popculture by checking every bad stereotype on the list.
Your party consists of a young optimistic boy that‘s always cheerful and hungry for adventure and has some hidden potential within him (think of any shonen protagonist), then there is the female protagonist who is kinda dopey and shy when it comes to any kind of social interaction and, of course, has huge boobs and tiny frame in relation. Add in the generic lolita „don’t call me a kid, kid” cat girl and some cute phantasy race character with a robot companion and a maiden fetish.
It’s bad when your main batch of characters feel like very forgettable and generic clichés and tropes with all that nonsensical fan services, plus slap stick, shoehorned into the game on top of that. So yeah I felt the reviewer is on point with his criticism.
We have listened to your criticism and altered the thumbnail to not spoil anything from XC1. Thank you for your response.
Love you guys @Commonwealth. Keep up the excellently made reviews.
Fuck you
Commonwealth Realm random question but could you have a list of the songs used in this video and when their used
Shmen Not really considering they removed the spoiler from their thumbnail. Mentioning that it had a spoiler only gives a vague idea to the viewer now.
1:32 I'd like to point out that Meacritic's score should not discourage anyone comparing XC2 to XC.
XC never got the attention that XC2 is getting and within today's reviewing standards. Copies are given out in order to increase the awareness at the cosy of score.
What does this mean? XC was more reviewed by those familiar and open to JRPGs.
While XC2 will recieve lower scores by casuals that arent big on JRPGs.
Solution? Check individual reviews than overall score.
Because XC is mostly praised of the awareness that diehard fans spread. XC2 is open to a wider audience, thus more diverse score and opinions.
RayMinishi Kotaku review of XC2 😱
I have a better tip. Never look at Metacritic for anything. Look for complete reviews on youtube, from people that liked the game and from people that didn't.
XC is one of my favorite games but I fell XC2 is just better. While I loved the combat in the first I feel like I only understood 80% and I was missing something. XC2 I understood 100% of. Plus XC2 story made me cry. While I loved the first one I can tell you that I didn't cry. Iff a game can make me cry then that's a perfect win for me.
Drewsefer89 going to admit xenoblade 1's plot twists got old or were predictable (prime example is metal face) to the point I wasn't surprised when somethings happened, because anyone was suspicious except shulk of course, heck if riki tiki went on a mass killing spree and turned out to be as mechon I wouldn't be surprised. I just lost intrest because at any moment I would find out that I was helping a bad guy, everyone was chalked up as immeadit baddie, or a later baddie using me for there gains, so no one was trustworthy enough or going to live long enough for me to be invested in them, to learn about them
but xenoblade 2 I was genuinely surprised at the end because I had still had a sense of disbelief, mostly because the game didn't actively try to be cleaver 100% of the time, it was cleaver at the points it needed to be, instead it focused on every character and them developing through the story. And blades got their own mini quests to make me give a shit about them.
Beautifully said
So in conclusion play both games as they are still the best JRPGs of the last decade, got it 👌🏽😁.
Azur Lune F*ck Persona
Radiant Historia is way more mature than Xenoblade 1. I just like that one twist in Xenoblade 1 that made me like it before that point it was generic.
SupaYosefu Persona is great
Ah yes, Persona. It's a pretty great game. I preferred 4 due to its story and showing just how immense personas can become, but 5 had such good game mechanics you would've never seen it coming.
H Cortes
Not better than Persona 5

@SurgeXL and all you guys
I was liking the English dub until that part too. I really liked how English Dub is less weeb trashy, but the main character and gameplay instances sound too annoying. Not to mention the lip sync. Even though the main character sound way too old in Japanese, it help get rid of the irritation.
You monster
"jiggle physics?... In a xenoblade game?... Come on, you guys do that in every game."
What do we want? Jiggle Physics!
When do we want them? NOW!
Nose physics are better
@emrhan mohammad embuido ah, I see we have a man of culture here
"The voice actors this time are Scottish..."
Right, so England, Wales, and even Australia are part of Scotland now. Got it.
Seriously, did this guy never leave Mor Ardain or something? xD
@@olican101 probably
I HIGHLY question the validity of one who complains about Jiggle physics in anygame.
also, there was jiggle in the first Xenoblade. If I noticed it on the 3DS I'm 100% sure it was on the Wii too.
OttoeCamn it was in the original it was actually more of it then in the 3ds version
It's a problem when the outfit is metalic or really close to the body because the boobs can't move like that with such clothing which mean it's only here for distraction to anyone who like unrealistic movements of the said boobs.
Plus here it's not boobs it's balloons. I find it ugly.
I would love a japanese game with sexy characters but no fan service. Xenoblade 2 characters look like the cast of an ecchi harem story. It hurt me every time I think it's a Xenoblade game.
Keerya Is because some idiot let a hentai artist design the main characters
when did they ever say her outfit was made of metal? sure it has metal parts (but probably not the chest area).
Then again, Fanservice is something that comes down to personal taste, I personally enjoy it, but I can see why some people wouldn't. The *BIG* problem I have with people that don't like fanservice is when people say "I don't like it, therefore it's inherently a bad thing and it shouldn't be there". It just comes of as arrogant and self centered. Plus, it's a story about people living on the back of giant monsters in a sea of clouds... and you want realism?
"or really close to the body" was the point, not metal.
Fanservice isn't a problem, I love fanservice when it's well done and correspond to the type of story it's put in. Here I find it distracting and since it's so unnatural it feel awkward.
Realism isn't about the world it's put in, it's about physics. The fact is the female characters are anatomically dispropotionate and it's not very pleasant to look at when on top of that they put weird movements on their boobs.
So I get it. Some people like it. Some people thinks it's good fanservice. I don't blame them, taste and color you know ? What pain me is they put it under Xenoblade name. I mean I'd love to play it, it's a Xenoblade ! But I hate how it look, the animation, the acting of the characters (not the dub) it's not appealing at all to me. I don't like the hero at all and find him annoying. You see I wan't the story and the environnement but the rest is just... I can't. And that's why it's a problem, because this game doesn't target the same audience the previous games where. So I think all those who absolutely loved the first or even X game but don't like the anime/ecchi looking type of game feel somewhat betrayed.
Xenoblade 2 has the same feeling and visual I would have if someone asked me to imagine an ecchi anime fantasy game. That's the problem, it's in dissonance with the idea I have when I think about Xenoblade.
If you like how it look, good for you, seriously. But I'm still gonna pretend it's not a Xenoblade game.
Really like this way of reviewing. 89/100 is a damn good score. I must wait until the 24th of December before I can play it. So close, yet so far away...!
Sidenote; There is nothing wrong with jiggle physics!
I have to wait until Christmas as well. This will be my first, "modern," RPG. The closest I've gotten to a real RPG is Super Mario RPG... So I'm excited for this game!
Nothing wrong with jiggle-physics, unless you're a third-wave feminist. Then they're “thekthitht”.
Another thing I can't wait for in December is Breath of the Wild DLC pack 2. So close, yet so far......
the thing is that it is a little too much in your face (the anime expressions etc), Xenoblade Chronicles' story is more immersive because it avoids taking your attention away (unless you decide undress characters or make Sharla wear a bikini in the later parts of the game, but then again that is up to you)
Commonwealth Realm Yeah, it seemed that way to me a little. But I'll decide to try it since I only have 3 games for my Switch. But I might decide to buy the original Xenoblade on the 3DS. I just need something to hold me up until DLC pack 2 for Breath of the Wild (hopefully) comes out soon.
(BTW thanks for the love. 😊)
Jiggle physics did nothing wrong
I'm surprised that poor sap was even able to write his review, as distracted his small brain seems to have been by a pair of jiggling breasts, geezus... some ppl need to get their shit together. breasts jiggle, that's what they do.
What they did was make the story hard to take seriously.
@Jonathan Soko Well, it didn't exactly need to be.
Jonathan Soko They aren't realistic they defy gravity and wouldn't go like that
@@fumomofumosarum5893 thatrs why bras existm.
Xenoblade 1 had very, very noticeable jiggle physics. Sharla and one of the later villains sister, both have copious amounts of it. What are you on about with that?
Also. “We refuse to spoil Xenoblade 1s Story” BUT YOU INCLUDED SEVEN IN THE THUMBNAIL YA DINGUS, plus you included various moments from cutscenes that are very late in the background vid to the commentary... -w-
Thumbnail has been fixed.
7 what
Seven is how the community calls one of the characters in order to not spoil anything.
we can basicly stop with the seven-nonsence since smash ultimate already fucked it up despite chainattacks only having 3 people in total in the original game.(dangit, sakurai)
And he also included multiple instances of mythra throughout the video despite refusing to go into any more detail of pyras history.
I love how expressive everyone is in 2, especially the eyes. The way the pupils react to different situations really helps the characters express themselves.
lucky for me im an degenerate weeb, so i find Xenoblade 2 amazing.
same
Same
Would say same but its already been said twice. So i'll say, "myself as well" instead.
Hentai Boy The 'anime' doesn't go far beyond the artstyle at all. The cutscenes shown in this video are like the only anime style cutscenes
Degenerate weebs, squad up!
8:18 Jiggle physics has been around since the first Xenoblade game
Only two characters had jiggle physics, and the boobs moved to the sides. XC2 has a ton of characters with jiggle physics, and those enormous spheres bounce all over the place.
jerryborjon no not really because you only really see pyra and mythra who both have the same body poppi's third form still doesn't have a movable bust nia is B in her blade form but flat in normal which she will be throughout the story and Bridget has a dress that doesn't make her bust move and 70 to 80 percent of the blades are lolis, male, weird bear thing and animals and their are only 31 rare blades
jerryborjon also you won't focus on the bust if pay attention to the game and don't give me bull like oh it's right there like the hot springs scene because if you pay attention to it then you know that nia is hiding something or like you can look at a female's bust in real life because it's there come on
Blaze knight - I actually can’t read anything you posted. You might want to look into what “sentence structure” is.
jerryborjon you might need something called education then
Also what's with all the X hate? Hiroyuki Sawano is an amazing composer and he did a fantastic job on X's soundtrack. It's better than Xeno 1's
Just haters tbh. All they do is try to milk views on the popular titles of the franchise without any real opinions , they are far too weak to make an opinion by themselves. I personally thought X was the best game out of the 3 and 2 was the weakest by far.
"We still refuse to spoil any major plot twists"
Yeah okay. [UPDATE: Yeah they fixed the thumbnail so this joke doesn't apply anymore.]
Friar Tuck Lol. I thought the same thing
To be fair most don’t know who Seven is and if they don’t read this won’t even realize Seven is in the thumbnail.
Friar Tuck is that not shulk?!
Yonk No spoilers. If you want to play Xenoblade 1 without spoilers someday I would avoid this comments section.
Yeah I know. Just thought it was an amusing thing to poke fun at.
How could you fail to mention XC2's Break-Topple-Launch-Smash chain. That's a HUGE part of the battle system
I deleted my comment about the thumbnail thing to save any chance of spoilers. Thanks guys, you're awesome
7:23, did he just call them Ropons?
When will people learn that X isn't for everybody. You don't need to shit on it especially in a video where you're comparing two games, neither of which is X.
Right. I loved X's gameplay and it still has my favorite soundtrack out of the 3 games.
X has a better gameplay and build system and a lot of themes are good, but since people just talk about " New L.A theme bad" they just say the game as a hole has bad music.
Exploration's better in my opinion ,because you can just go wherever you want (between the regions) and you have field skills and tyrans gives specific weapons/unique ( robot tyrants give their weapons if you break them )
I got to say I've been playing Definitive Edition for XC1 and after playing XC2 I've got to say their is a LOT that I find better about the first game over the second game. One thing in particular that I find more appropriate about the first game is the lack of kooky anime tropes that I have to say have been overly dominating Japanese markets. The story is so much more mature and work and I appreciate that. So much more investment comes from that
I also personally find the combat and quest design way better in 1 compared to 2, and the gatcha mechanic in 2 was the biggest mistake to ever cross the series.
@@33link333 Gatcha mechanic? What's that mean?
@@stormcutter59 The random blade from core crystals, it's just an unnecessary layer of RNG making 100% the game a huge nightmare.
@@33link333 Oh yeah that. Yeah that got annoying. I do love the Blades tho, I just dislike how strange some of them are. Also I just prefer the first game in terms of a system. Your characters are your combatants, and that is all you should need.
I think a lot of these comparisons of XC1/XC2 need to be redone to include XCDE as it fixes minor issues with the original and makes the game vastly better overall.
You talk about XC with much more passion than XC2 so could tell who was going to win from the off. However great comparison. I'm only 6 hours in XC2 so appreciated the no spoilers :)
Damm this review made me wanna play xenoblade chronicles again.
@Harley Odell OK ok I didn't beat this first time because I never used the 'come to me! Command so everyone went in poison water.
I'm still a big fan of XC1 and overall I prefer it over XC2, but this review seems really skewed towards favouring XC1 over XC2 for no reason than it's the original.
Thanks for being objective. And I love XC2 over XC1
Yeah I thought this was weird in the fact that he made xc2 seem so much worse yet he only gave it 3/100 less score than xc1
What? He just spent 23 minutes giving other reasons
I think the Environment from xc2 Is better than xc1
But Xenoblade Chronicles world had body parts. Like, there was a knee, and I know what that is! (Shotuout to Redlettermedia). Think of the ramifications of being a knee, versus being a country with uniquely identifiable culture, ecology/biome, and even political/governmental structure. Obviously the knee wins, for the unforgettable nature of being a knee.
Xeno blade needs a Switch Port. I have the #ds version but never finished it. Id pick it up again for Switch
The Jeidi maybe VC but they probably port XCX for NS
See here I always wanted to played a xenoblade chronicles game but I didn't have the time to,now I'm getting xenoblade chronicles 2,but I'm not gonna get the original because I don't want to play my Wii again, and I also don't want to play on 3DS,but I would buy a port for switch
The "New"3DS port is probably one of the laziest ports I've ever seen. It's a damn shame because the game is so good. It's only made slightly less good by the reduction of visual fidelity and the clunkiness that ensues when trying to play extensively or control the camera on a ds.
I'm just really disappointed how they didn't even bother to make the slightest of QoL adjustments, like navigating the X menu from touchscreen or combining view map/fast travel or literally anything that made the original often clunky.
well if you say that i dont feel bad for stopping. but id still like a port of it.
The Jeidi Yeah it'd be nice - the portability of the 3DS plus fidelity beyond even the switch version. The definitive way to play is still on Dolphin, though (as long as you have a decent PC): best load times, customizable graphics and textures, save states, fast-forwarding, and to some extent, mods.
Not to nitpick (actually this entirely to nitpick) but the voice actors aren't all Scottish. There are Welsh, traditional RP accents, and even some Cockney accents as well. That said everyone from Mor ardain is Scottish.
Also do not act like Xenoblade one didn't have ridiculous jiggle physics as well.
As far as my overall opinion if the two, XC did some things better and XC2 did some things better. Overall though, I would have to say that XC2 is the better game due to the fact that its weaknesses are not as glaring as XC.
Wolverine101 for real. And low key dissing scottish ? “Oh the actors are good because they have English accents they must be legit” plus “the story so deep man this game deep deep deep”. What an idiot.
fysean xeno 1 did have the better story and VA
@@fysean um what? Where did I say that?
"The voice actors this time are Scottish" Except for you know... Rex... Nia... AND EVERYONE OURSIDE OF MOR ARDAIN!!!
Just a minor correction on the voice actors. Rex's VA actually has a Northern England accent, and Nia's VA has a Welsh Accent, not Scotish
You brought tears to my eyes when you talked about xenoblade 1. 140 hours well spent in my life.
Danny Rosas I spent over 200
Danny Rosas 900 hours... its crazy how much time i've spent with this game.
372 hours lol
Bblurre My brother played xc1 100% in about 130 hours, so quite possible.
P. Brandt I played it in 99 hours lol
That metacritic score pause was hawt
necropig I can't tell what they were trying to imply
Yonk Since it’s a new game the score could’ve easily changed between recording the audio and editing that picture in.
necropig Hmmm.... What are you implying here?
Now it has gone down to 83
Great video! Just wanted to say that it's really only the Ardanians in XC2 that have Scottish accents. Nia is Welsh as is most of the Gormotti and Rex is English albeit a more Northern accent.
Great video, and I agree with the result of all 3 categories. But as a Brit I have to correct what you said at 5:09. Rex has a Northern English accent, Nia is ultra Welsh and Zeke has more of a Southern English accent.
Comparing the combat of 1 and 2 and not even mentioning on how many levels 2 expands on 1 seems weird to me. Blade Setups, Affinity links, Elemental Chains and Orb Breaks do so much for the gameplay and it feels a lot more satisfying overall
Yo but X’s soundtrack was actually perfect
Knocking down the story just because of anime influences is a low blow. It really just shows your preferences which you should keep away from comparisons like this. Also how can we play Xenoblade chronicles 2 when it hasn't come out yet?
Andres Marrero I understand your concern, but trust me, anime tropes become so painfully obvious during story sections sometimes that it makes everything else look worse by comparison.
Master X: Smash4 you mean the whole maid moment for Tora? That was played out for laughs.
Master X: Smash4 a lot of the tropes played out in the game were done intentionally though atleast as far as I have seen.
Prodigy yeah, I'm 21 hours in, and every anime troupe that people complain about is done for laughs. They straight up mock one of the characters for wearing clothes that are too revealing. I can't complain about the art style at all either as the characters are much more expressive which makes them more way more likable and easier to become attached to. Also, I'm probably in the minority here, but I think XC 1's story kinda shat the bed at the end. In terms of themes, it abandons half of them at one point in favor of doubling down on the one that were only I. The background. It almost feels like two separate games. Not saying that it's bad, but by no means a masterpiece. Still better than almost all game stories nowadays.
I've already finish the XC2 and the story is amazing.
Spoilers
"Even X years later, people still refuse to reveal spoilers for Xenoblade Chronicles"
And yet, Sakurai puts Mecha Fiora in Shulk's Final Smash in Smash Ultimate so RIP
He's obviously not a Xenoblade fan, he spoiled the game and he put 4 people in a Chain Attack instead of 3.
without context its not that big of a spoiler compared to other ones
Nintendo needs to remake xenoblade 1 for switch
Bobby Blob Nah we want xc 3
I doubt it (with the 3ds version) but I wouldn't mind it. Would be cool to play XC on a handheld without all the compromises they had to do for the 3ds.
Bobby Blob I prefer Shulk over Rex anyway :/
Because Shulk have that good protagonist look like Sora(Except Sora is stupid) and Cloud
When Rex....i see that High school DxD protagonist look mixed with Re:Zero
Also Xenoblade 2 has much more fan service than Xenoblade 1 its getting annoying overtime for me(Because i know some people will like it....fucking degenerate)
Sora looks absolutely awful, especially compared to Shulk.
Hehehe
I get the feeling that there's a not much respect for Xenoblade Chronicles X here. It was the game that got me hooked on the Xenoblade Chronicles series. Sure the story isn't super amazing but I think it's still one of my Fave games ever, and one of the two best games on the Wii U.
Also random theory, It's obvious that the Titans in XC2 were inspired by Bionis and Mechonis in XC, but what if Alrest from XC2 is the same world where XC takes place. *Also no Spoilers please, I don't have a Switch yet so I have not played XC2 and I'm only about halfwayish through XC story.*
That exact question gets answered in XC2 but it's a huge and I mean HUGE spoilet
It rlly needs to be ported. No one has a wiiu lol
X has my favorite soundtrack in the series. Nothing but epic tracks across the board (ignoring the New LA themes).
I need a bigger gun!
Hold on, if you're gonna use XBC2's jiggle physics against it, then we've got to talk about Sharla and Vanea.
Having just finished Xenoblade 2 yesterday, I wholeheartedly agree with the assessment here. Both games are incredible, but the first game really does win out in most areas. The only thing I disagree with is what you say about X's music, because while it is very different, it fits with the game and to me is still an incredible soundtrack.
So basically you judged this game worse than xc1 because of the artstyle and jiggle physics? How can you even call xc2 generic when xc1 had generic shounen troupes?
Egil my thoughts exactly. Especially when XC1 has ridiculous jiggle physics as well
XC1 did have jiggle physics, but the game was played more straight. It had goofy anime moments, but it wasn't going fully anime and putting in ridiculous mangaesque expressions, and it wasn't giving all it's women triple D tits. I do want to play XC2 but I hate this move towards contemporary trash otaku bait art style. It's almost a gut punch to a Xenogears fan like myself, because I wanted X to have an awesome serious scifi story but they just didn't bother. I want them to attempt the Xenogears/Xenosaga 1/Xenoblade X character designs but do it with cel shading or the type of shading they're using for XBC2.
El Duderino Well they have to do this. I don't really think that u know Xenoblade series sold very very bad, and was unpopular in Japan. If u searched VA and artists informations. This time they used as many best and most popular Japanese VAs as they can, and the artists for each blades are different. Famous artists and even artists from pixvic and 18X Manga areas. And that's why the style of blades are so different in this game. It is their only way to fight against the Tale series, if they really want to be in the top tier of Jrpgs. They realize that the reason why the first one, and Xenosaga wasn't popular in Japan is due to the art style and the lack of expression. And u know there are more market potential in Japan than west when it comes to Jrpgs right? The result is, it worked quite well, at least better than the previous game.
I didn't play XC1 because of the art... I personally just don't like the game environment to be dark.
What are you talking about? There's tons of lush bright environments in XC1, low poly, but still lush and vibrant. Did you only see night cycle screens and vids?
I don't know what it was, but XBC2 was a better experience for me. It just caught me better than 1. Also, the fact that there wasn't as much farming just to progress through the story.
I can't trust your guys' reviews. You have shown many times that your nostalgia plays a major part in your reviews of newer games, always trying to make the new game live up to the old game. I'm not saying the new games are always better than their predecessors, but come on. Comparing Shulk and Rex and assuring viewers that Rex has his Shulk moments? Saying XC2's story has a massive legacy to live up to from the first Xenoblade?
And now you're judging it by its over-the-top anime art style with clear distaste in your voice. Someone said it already, but this is like when everyone hated Wind Waker because of its cartoony artstyle. And everyone already pointed out the fact that there were jiggle physics in the first Xenoblade. In short, your reviews are incredibly misleading and biased, and you guys gotta fix that.
It’s a sequel. It’s going to be compared to the first one entirely because of that, whether you like it or not. The problem normally associated with comparisons appears when a person doesn’t like some changes simply for being different, but none of that’s here at all.
John Smith Wind Waker's art style is charming and oozes personality. The anime style has been done to death though, and the market is already flooded with anime rpgs. And it's also very clearly exploiting the sex appeal. While the original Xenoblade was too dated to have it's art style show through in it's graphics, the character art looks a lot more detailed.
But it's not to say they're nostalgia biased for preferring the original, I genuinely believed that 2 wouldn't live up to the original, and that's simply because the original was far too ambitious.
My point in comparing Xenoblade 2 to Wind Waker is that people are preemptively judging the game based on its art style. People hated Wind Waker at first, and it took time for them to appreciate the cartoony graphics that had been done to death in old platformers.
Your opinion of a game's art style is subjective, not objective. The anime art style is a Japanese staple, which is why almost every Japanese game is done that way. And docking points because you don't like the anime art or the rampant sex appeal doesn't fit in an objective review.
As for Xenoblade 2 living up to the original Xenoblade, I believe we should judge games on their own merits, not for how they live up to their predecessors. I understand comparing the two to see how the series has changed, but that by no means can decide which game is better.
I personally hated the first game. Its combat was slow and repetitive, and completely unengaging. The story didn't matter to me because actually playing the game bored me to death. But after reading up on the story and characters, Xenoblade 1 was nothing special. But that doesn't mean it'ss a bad game. I enjoy Xenoblade 2 because they fixed the combat, and now I have a reason to be invested in the game. The story is pretty meh, but the meat of the game is much more engaging than the original, which is a massive improvement.
Objectively, Xenoblade 2 is the better game here. Everything wrong with the first Xenoblade has been fixed. Series staples like Nopons, tropey characters, jiggle physics, sweeping orchestral scores and a massive, fantastical world all return. The combat wheel gets replaced with commands mapped to certain buttons. The dated, semi-realistic art style gets overhauled into a style that will age much better. So saying the first game is better at this point reeks of rose-tinted nostalgia glasses, not objective analysis.
John Smith Well considering I played the first xenoblade recently, it's not nostalgia fueled. I feel like you're coming up with excuses to devalue the game. The first game is grindy, but that shouldn't be an issue if you're playing a jrpg.
But my points against the second game are that it feels like it devalues it's charm with even more tropes than before. The first Xenoblade was a breath of fresh air for jrpgs for me, in both gameplay and style. Apart from similar color palettes and themes it looks like it could be a star ocean game or any of those other anime rpgs.
I lost it when I saw they made a cat girl species. That's where it hit me that they're really pushing for the weeb bait this time around.
I'm not saying you're nostalgia fueled, and I will readily praise the first Xenoblade for what it brought to the table. The voice acting was great, the story was good, and for a Wii game, it looked amazing. I'm just saying Xenoblade 2 did everything better, aside from the voice acting.
You can have whatever opinion you want on anime art, I know it's not for everyone. The West really has a hard time accepting Asian stuff, the art especially. My argument is that subjective opinions on art style have no place in an objective review. Preferring a slightly more realistic art style over anime art isn't wrong, but that has no bearing on the review itself.
Man, both games are so fucking good. I recently picked up Xenoblade 2 and while the voice acting and art style was off-putting at first, it has quickly grown on me and I love it just as fiercely as the first game. People who haven't played Xenoblade are truly missing out on one of the best series out there.
All this X shade... I thought it was a great game, with a wonderful soundtrack. Primordia, Noctilum, and Oblivia had absolutely stellar tracks. It was "somewhat misplaced" because it wasn't trying to be completely traditional. It wasn't going for magical steampunk. It was going for more traditional sci-fi, and almost looks like Star Trek or Star Wars. I'm playing through both XC and XCX, and I personally prefer XCX. I much prefer what it's going for, but it could still definitely be refined.
I love the pause while showing the review
Dude, Xenoblade Chronicles X's soundtrack is pretty good, and Noctilum's theme is one of the best musics in the entire Xenoblade series
Rex isn't Scottish, I believe the voice actor for rex is from Manchester, there's also Australian & Welsh accents.
Did you really need to show Seven in the thumbnail?
Pokemanics You mean
Robotic Fiora?
Pokemanics who's seven?
exactly
Yonk have you played the first XC up to at least Prison Island? Because if so [SPOILERS]
Seven is a nickname that fans of the first game give Mecha Fiora to avoid spoiling people when talking about her (since she is the seventh party member)
Did you really need to point that out. Now people who haven't played know a name instead of just a pic they no nothing about.
Dumbass
Can I just say, I didn't even FINISH watching the video yet but the way you described the first Xenoblade's story- it's exactly what I'm looking for! I was on the fence on which to buy so thank you for your detailed description!
One thing I've noticed so far, 5 mins in, Only the Ardanians are scottish, Rex sounds from yorkshire, Nia is welsh, each race in the game has a different accent almost.
Everything else seems perfect to me
Andrewmeda Rex isn’t Yorkshire, he’s close but the other side of the Pennines
Video editing, syncs and transitions are PERFECT. Congratulations for who edit it
Two persons. Me (Konrad) and Joseph.
Man, everything you and joseph did it right. I'm serious, the introduction on 0:00 to 0:25 was GENIUS, the two sides on a battle with attacks going from one side to another, and the reactions are connected! PERFECT
As a person that has played both and let them settle, I can say that while XB1 is memorable, XB2 is just as memorable. Where is shines is the story, and the anime tropes are big in both of them so I won't fault two for having some fun with it. It was endearing to me. But every Titan and how you are introduced to them makes it very memorable to me.
Anime tropes turned up to 11?... man you don’t know what 11 is if you think xenoblade 2 is 11
Xenoblade chronicles 2 is literally a shounen anime. Like, holy shit aha
Ok, it's an 11 under the context that it still tries to take itself seriously
Yeah, pretty much this.
@@16xthedetail76 Xenoblade 1 had anime tropes as well, but they were done in an interesting way.
Also, how just in what dimension of hell is 2 considered better than 1 when it comes to story. 2 had actual problems with it's story and many instances where I couldn't take it seriously. I could forgive all of Xenoblade 2's anime tropes if they were done well. Giving flashbacks to a character Is not character development at all unless that character had character development throughout. Rex was just the stereotypical hotheaded jrpg protagonist that didn't develop at all,Nia was a tsundere and nothing more,so was mythra, pyra was boring,Zeke is unfunny,Morag was boring and Tora was just there.
Personally, I think XC1's gameplay was more fun than 2's. Although 2's UI was more friendly, there was more strategy and variety in arts, and more arts in general in 1. Getting into 2's gameplay, it felt like a dumbed down baby version of 1's, and was little inconvenient when you would find yourself in need of an art that would really help you in battle because your other blade needs to recharge. But 2 definetly made up with the blade combo mechanic and the joint combos that expanded on the break-topple mechanic which I really enjoyed pulling off.
Edit: git gud with d-pads lol
There are way more Arts in XC2 than in XC1. In XC1, every character has 16 Arts. In XC2, every character has 4 Arts per weapon, and all characters have at least access to 8 weapons, so that's 32 Arts. (Tora is the exception, who only has access to 12 Arts.)
This doesn't even count the NG+, which gives every character (except Tora) 7 more weapons. And the DLC, which gives them 4 more weapons, which brings the total to 19 weapons, which is 76 Arts. And then there are the Legendary Blades with unique weapons, giving certain characters from 0 (poor Nia) to 20 (Rex) more Arts.
Even if you consider the amount of Arts a character has access to during battle, the number is the same. In XC1, each character has access to 8 normal Arts + 1 Talen Art during battle. (The exception is Shulk, who has access to 8 normal Arts and 8 Monado Arts.) In XC2, each character has access to 3 Blades, each giving 3 Arts during battle. So, that's 9 Arts as well.
And that isn't even counting the Blade Arts (of which there are 9 total and each Blade typically has 2) and the Blade Special (which each Blade has at least 4 of, making for a total of 212 Blade Specials, and that's not even counting the Common Blades).
So, while it's perfectly fine to like XC1's combat more, you can't say it's because there are more Arts in general.
Why do you keep complaining about X? It has the best gameplay out of all of the Xenoblade games and the side quests are the best I’ve come across in a video game
This guy's saying facts
The main story wasn't so good but execpt for that the game is just good. Like there is nothing for me to complain about and even after playing the game for 400 hours I still have things I could do. Definitely the best game you could play on the Wii U
2 very good JRPGs, personally Xenoblade 2 is my favourite in the series (even including the older Xeno titles like Gears and Saga) even with some animetropes and not optimal tutorials. Don't miss this game, Nia, Morag, Poppi, the fantastic world and the gorgeous music allone are more than worth it.
Does anyone else feel 2’s story just doesn’t do it for you as much as 1’s?
Gunnar Schumann 100% xc1 is better. while the story wasn't bad in 2 it just seemed a lot more predictable, nothing really suprised you except for its connection to the first. The horrible dub didn't help and some of the main party members were not utilized as mush as i would hope, they seemd to be there just to progress the story. All in all 2 was fun but did not have nearly as big of an impact as 1 did.
Nice opinions. I disagree, XC2 made me feel much more.
XC1's story resonated a lot harder with me. I loved the more dramatic tone it had, and the emotional rollercoaster it kind of put me on. XC2's story was a lot... I dunno. It was way less serious. I also got put off by... the whole 'suddenly im super op' thing rex did right off the bat.
I don't think I enjoy pyra as much as I enjoyed the monado. Pyra isn't.. mysterious. Shes, very personal. Theres no consquences for using pyra to rex as there is when shulk is using the monado, I don't know. Theres a lot of factors that play in there...
Xenoblade is my favourite game of all time, 2 is about to be at my door at any moment. I can’t wait.
Have a great December with one of the best games this year!
Whats ur fc
Here's to hoping that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 combines the story telling elements of the first with the simplier but, from what I heard, deeper, game play mechanics of 2. The first one was a masterpiece in my eyes, I know that means 2 has lofty expectations to meet but I am just hoping for a quality game and for this to become an ongoing franchise for the future.
reeseseater12 In the meantime, I suggest checking out Xenosaga and Xenogears. They are two different series made by the director of Xenoblade before Xenoblade was made.
I have heard of them but never played. I'd assume they're good given their creator
Yeah, they made it easier to access your arts but they added more depth into it
Ravus 9 It's a little hard to play Xenosaga unless you emulate since they were never rereleased after the ps2. You need to have a ps2 and the games (especially 2 and 3) are pretty pricey on ebay. Thats why XS fans are hoping for an HD remaster.
Xenogears is available on ps3, psp and ps vita (wish it would get a steam release or a ps4 hd remaster)
reeseseater12 The story in Xenoblade 2 was pretty phenomenal

@@-spinel-7257 oh I did since X2s launch, amazing game
personally i prefer 2 so far although I'm not that far into it but from what I've played so far the story is at the same level, the combat is a step up from one, i can't think of a single character i don't like, the salvaging is a fun mini-game and a good way to make money in the game, i like the fact that i can change between multiple blades and play-styles as it adds a lot of diversity to the game . the game world it's self feels a lot more alive then 1 but it might just be the brighter color pallet used in the game
XC2's combat is hands down superior to XC1 in almost every measure, and possibly better than in any other RPG that I've ever played - it's just too bad that the game does such a piss poor job of in game explanations for how the combat really works, which sucks, since it's actually really complex. But, if one is willing to take the time to learn it, it's just such a fun way of battling and it's really rewarding for those who want to master it.
I think XC2 is honestly pretty underrated in general. I think it has better music and sound quality, the environments are visually better, and I think the story ends up coming together at the end to be quite good, if somewhat less potent as XC1. But where the game really shines is in its characters. Having replayed XC1 for the first time in several years, I was surprised by how little the main characters actually talk. It's usually for like a minute every half hour, with a very short cut scene. It does s great job to conveying a lot of details and characterisms with an economy of words, but over all - aside from maybe Shulk and one or two others - almost all of the characters seem rather 2 dimensional, with little in the way of character development. By comparison, the characters in XC2 seem so much more vibrant in their personalities, and many of them experience meaningful character development. I feel like I know all of their stories so much better - where they came from, what their motivations are, why they believe what they believe. I could say the same of the characters in XC1, but it's just on a much shallower level.
Overall, I think the overarching story, character designs, voice acting and the payoff is a touch better in XC1, but XC2 is better in almost every other regard: combat, visuals, music, character personalities/history/characterisms.
I guess I would say that XC1 is better at capturing the larger picture, while XC2 is so much better at capturing the smaller details, if at the expense of the larger picture.
Shulk: "I'LL KILL YOUUUU"
Rex: "EEEEEEEEEEYAAAA!"
I wonder if the power of the DLC in XC2 would have changed anything here. Cause that is some REALLY good content.
mmmm doubt your opinion when you say the original has a better soundtrack, i've heard most of it now and i have to say that 2 is better
kingjonny nope original's is way better
TheCrazyNintendoMan ! Guess its down to your own opinion
Nah I’m really enjoying 2s soundtrack more. The attachment is probably due to nostalgia
Can't we all agree they're both equally fantastic OSTs? For themes they're going for, and the uses of them, they all fit perfectly.
Naw the first one definitely has the better soundtrack
Damn, y'all guys really gotta tear into X at every opportunity? Especially the soundtrack. Xenoblade X actually has some STELLAR music but I know everyone likes to pick the few tracks in it that do sound off and use those as the example for the whole thing. Xenoblade X is named how it is specifically because it ISN'T trying to be a traditional Xenoblade game. Can we at least acknowledge that? You don't have to like it, just realise it isn't trying to be the same game.
Also I really liked X's soundtrack. Not counting New LA, Mika Kobayashi's songs were the highlight for me, and made for some of the best fight music I've ever heard in a game (especially The Key We've Lost)
Liked the review, it feels good to see that there's people that judge a game without expecting everything to be much better than the original. Gonna get this for this holiday season so this is gonna be a huge journey for me to take on.
Would love for the original to be re-released on the current console, never had the change to play it and its kind of hard to come up with the original. Not owning a Wii console and my computer not being up to emulate it even if I had a copy of the game, also plays a big part on why I say so xDD
5:09 The voice actors aren't just Scottish! Rex (and by extention the citizens of his region) is northern English, Nia (and others of her race) is Welsh, it's only really the Mor Ardain citizens who are Scottish. There are people from all over Britain doing the voice acting. Saying "the voice actors this time are Scottish" is like saying that a Texan voice actor is Canadian. We don't sound like Rex, or Nia. We sound like Morag. (Also fun fact, for those who think Morag is a strange name, Morag is a common Scottish name!) Hopefully I didn't come off as too aggressive here, just trying to explain this while holding down the urge to shout "FREEDOOOOOOOOM" and devour a haggis.
Xenoblade Chronicles:

Excellent review can't wait to play this awesome looking game.
Can we talk about how every character talks over each other in battle in this game?
Why are the character icons in xenoblade1 different? When I (and most playthroughs on youtube) played the game the icons next to your health were different. Is it because its an early copy of the game/different region?
That footage is emulated and modded, that is also why the resolution is much higher.
Why the constant hating of X?
chris boateng I'm not sure, most people that hate it probably didn't even play much of it. I like it more than the original.
chris boateng poor story telling is the reason why. Then again that really wasn't it's focus. I kinda wish that I knew that before I bought it.
Poor story telling, lackluster soundtrack, custom character and lack of the Xenoblade magic to name a few reasons.
If XCX had a story on par with the first game, I would love it to death. I still like it though as the gameplay, world, atmosphere, and music are still really good. It just doesn't feel like it belongs under the Xenoblade name. Call it Xeno-(insert title here) or something. Hell, maybe just "X" would have worked.
X has a fantastic soundtrack, just cause a few songs suck or are meh doesn't mean it's bad. I honestly think it's overall just as good as the original
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of the only games where I just stopped and looked at the landscape in the background. Gorgeous draw distance in one if the most beautiful worlds in gaming!
Same thing happened to me with genshin impact but i didnt expect to do it again in xenoblade chronicles wii original
For me the games are so close that the question of which is better will come down to replayability, when I finished XC1 I was satisfied and ready to move on and didn't come back to it until after I'd finished X, having not finished 2 yet I can't really weigh in but I do think the improved gameplay and the random factor of the Blades will be points in its favor
Just a quick question, what version of XB1 did you record? Is it the japanese version? The character icons are different from the European, as far as I can tell.
I'm only in Chapter 4 in XC2 so far but I'm enjoying it even more than I enjoyed XC1 up to this point of both games. However, XC1 turns it up to 11 halfway through the game and I can't imagine 2 living up to it so far. Still REALLY enjoying 2 though and I like the gameplay even more than 1. We'll see which one I like more once I beat 2.
Never beat X because I never could force myself to play my Wii U for long periods of time, so I hope it gets a Switch port.
Did you finished it yet?
I imagine when you descovered everything about the antagonists of Xenoblade 2 and when the beggining of the world was explained
@@pedrobeckup456 Oh man, finding out that 2 and 1 are connected through Klauss is an all time gaming moment for me now. 2 gets a lot of hate for the first few chapters but the last few chapters are GOATED.
@@pugetsoundwaves Malos: Indeed!
Awesome video guys. Keep up the great work!
thanks for the review , XC look sharper in the reviw than in my eshop copy on Wii u, what are you playing it on?
Dolphin emulator, with the HD texture pack. Game runs at 4k and 60fps, it's great.
1:42 audio cut out?
Well crafted and considered analysis. It also helps that I personally agreed with you regarding the eventual winner of this showdown :-).
Great job and thanks for a reminder as to why this series is worth getting into as a whole really.
This Review was great 👌 I hope the would make a remake of the first one for the switch. Only 18h wait before i can play XC2
I never played Xenoblade Chronicles but number 2 has got me really interested in the series, I’m thinking of playing the first game as well as getting 2 day one but should I get Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii or 3DS?
I wasn't considering this game since I'm not interested in JRPG, but the way you showed its strengths made it interesting! I think I will then :D
7:22 "The ropons"..... WHAT!?!
Honestly, I love them both. I personally think they both are literally as good as each other and each world is basically great in their own way. Me and my fiancee love this series and it is definitely my hands down number one favorite RPG of all time with Eternal Sonata being number 2 and FFXV being number 3. The thing that we agreed on is that the stories are completely different. I love anime and all of its quirky tropes and such so I didn't get bothered by any of that, but the overarching story is just so vastly different from the first one. the first is all about the world essentially and grand endeavors of the people that live on both the bionis and the mechonis, whereas the second one is all about the people you're with all going to a place that is essentially the "Garden of Eden" or whatever you want to call it. It's almost equivalent of comparing a rock to sand. Yeah, they're both similar, but one isn't better than another. they're pretty much the same thing, except one is more focused and finely ground than the other is.
The music is pretty much great in both as well, however, I do agree that the first game's music was incredible. The second game's music was great but it didn't have as prominent of a grasp on me like the first one did. That isn't to say that I didn't like the second game's music, in fact, I listen to it when I clean my house and such, it's just not as captivating as the first game's soundtrack.
The worlds are great in both games, where one game excels in some areas and the other game excels in others. Not really much else to say about that other than the fact that both games had an awesome environment going on. You got these massive caves you can explore in the second one and it hinders your abilities as it shows in the first few minutes of showing up, whereas in the first there's a marsh that is extremely lit up and shows the beauty of the bionis. pretty much about as great as you can get for both areas honestly.
Anyways thats my two cents.
People say Pyra is just fanservice. Prya is an amazing character guys! Not just fanservice.
Never played either, but seeing the score, might give them a try. What's the name of the song at the end? That's some gorgeous music.
