Good morning sir from Scotland. Your videos are absolutely on the mark every time. You speak honestly and draw from your experience and that my friend is very inspiring. Your comment on enjoying the fish that you have on your doorstep is totally spot on - I see people spending lots of money travelling and chasing trophy fish and they never seem truly happy. I have purchased this rod and also the Daiwa Legalis reel on your recommendation. Thank you very much. Dave 👍😊
Good morning, Dave! Your comment absolutely made my day, sir! Thanks for taking the time to write it - it was worth it! Good luck on the water and hope to see you around!
WE use a LOT of Eagle Claw rods and reels in Samoa..catches anything and great for trevally and GT. The Crafted Glass rods are for SALTWATER AND FRESHWATER...and the longer ones are great for Saltwater fishing here in the Islands. Perfect match-up with Gunnison reels.
Amazing review. I love the end segment where you remind everyone to enjoy the fishing you do encounter. I have owned several Eagle Claw rods in the past. They had amazing action, but like you said I never encountered any fish over 15 pounds. So it was a perfect match! Excellent work. I will continue to watch over all of your videos throughout the week.
My early 80's heavy duty 8 1/2 granger eagle claw rod is my favorite rod for down rigger. Caught thousands of kokanee, steelhead, and salmon on it. Paired with an 80's 535 millionaire reel.
This guy rules. Awesome review, thank you!
thank you sir!
Thanks for fishing Eagle Claw!!!
Still keep these rods to this day!
I found one today in Wal-Mart for 22 dollars. Can't wait to try it out.
which walmart?
I got the 6’6” rod last year and I really like it. Was looking for reviews at the time but it was a few months before this vid came out. I’m glad I got it, will probably get another one someday since they are awesome. My grandpa used their rods in the 70s and they were the same color, he loved them too. They look classy and it makes catching bass fun cause you can feel the fight more
it looks like you have a 40 year old rod in excellent condition! : ) Don't forget to seal the handdle. Watch my video on how to seal the handle
You know there is a tremendous difference in downrigger fishing. The guide boats with their heavy level winds and tree trunks is like winch fishing. But hunting trout with a small outboard 16-18' and ultralight tackle is very relaxing and incredibly exciting. In the late 1970's and early 80's I used to fish out of Hughes marina at Paradise Lagoon in Lake Ontario. After my residency shift was over-36 hours on- I would put 2 downriggers out one at 5' and one at 10' and head the boat north with a Little Cleo and a Salmon Seeker. The pedestal seat could turn around(18' Sylvan and 70 HP Johnson 2 stroke). It had an 18 gallon internal tank. I could troll all day and often with the boat headed due north I would fall completely asleep--I had tightened the wheel so it couldn't turn. Any way, I often lost sight of land. But near the surface the Rainbows and sometimes Coho's would strike. You really should be awakened by hearing the drag scream. In those days very little boat trafic 6-10 miles out though falling asleep at the boat wheel is not very good. Those Eagle Claw 7' and 5'6" Ugly Stiks are great with 6 lb test
Absolutely amazing review I love medium action for BIG Catfish 👊
makes for a great video ; ) And you don't have to paint this one!!
I have a 6' spinning for ultralight worm drifting and a 4'10" ultralight casting rod for really light bfs fishing in the eagle claw yellow fiberglass and they are fun to fish. No stiffness whatsoever but you can really cast extremely light lures and weightless worms a very long way!
Very nice!
great review, loved it and cant wait to watch more videos. I just picked up a pflueger president 30, that 6'6" M should be a perfect fit
I just bought a 6ft medium crafted glass eagle claws at walmart for 20 bux no discounts. In a world where all the prices are shooting up, im surprised eagle claw rod prices are dropping! my featherlight was 25 dollars a few years ago. I don't have a big collection of rods so I can't say they are amazing or anything, I just really love the earthy yellow mustard colors.
New combo I'm loving is the kastking kastkat casting rod with the piscifun chaos 60 and spool it with 20lb to 30lb slime line .
i've been looking at their website. Next season i will probably buy one - they look real nice..
I bought a 5'6 at Walmart. Best lightweight rod I've ever used. I caught a coho salmon and pink salmon the same day.
Dude awesome setup!! YOUR ALMOST TO 1K!! Congratulations👍🏼💥
thanks bud!
I got my grandpa's rods when he died. I've got close to 20 ranging from the 1950s to 1970s. They are just as beautiful. If I ever need to buy a new rod it will definitely be an eagle claw. Everyone can go buy their $400 graphite garbage. Never seen an eagle claw rod break except when I ran one over with my Jeep.
yes.
Really like those rods!!! Great video!!
Thanks, Scotty!
I have a couple 5'6" lightweight ones for trout fishing. They are great for the price!
i just purchased a 5'6 from ebay. could you say more about it?
I love eagle claw rods. Have a few
Want to get more.
They are great for trout and small mouth fishing !!!!
We used these rods on downriggers for all trout and salmon available in Lake Ontario. You have to watch the eyes closely because if you leave them in the garage over the winter the eyes will rust. They need to be stored in a heated area. Years ago the tackle was so cheap that the rods and reels stayed in the garage. I had an old Eagle Claw Noodle rod I usaed to downrigger fish
I do store them in garage, but not heated.. So far look shiny
@@ifishcatfish The steel may be better now in that I started using the Eagle Claw glass rods before you were born.
Some good looking. Rods like the set up. I gonna have to check them out next time I get to tackle shop in my area see if they carry them. Thanks
Would you use the 6 foot Eagle Claw Glass Crafted for Salmon or Steelhead Trout??
No. Too soft. U gona need some rod that gives u a little control over the fish
That is a great rod for under $30, it's amazing to find those features for that price. The bend isn't bad at all compared to other rods in that price range. I do love a beautiful cork handle.
not for where u fish tho! Those rivers are full of snags and u need to horse the fish a little. This rod is for clean waters..
I use Medium and lighter action rods most of the time, the only time I use my Medium Heavy is under the dams or during high water. I have no problem taking a 30+ pound flathead on a medium rod with a 3000 or 4000 reel spooled with 25 pound test!! I makes it a fight, with the heavier rods I feel like I am just winching them in. I see your sub numbers went up a bit. I will share some more of your vids around and see if I can get you to 1000
thanks brother
Nice lookin' E-Glass....The price is right....they ought to be pretty stiff!!
On the t.v show anndy Griffith show he used a eagle craw on the beginning of the show !!!
I am glad you said it is not for saltwater. I almost tied on my spinfisher to it. As American as USA as that shimano reel seated on it. Lol. It would go up two stars if the eagle claw name is removable.
the shimano is fine - there is no other reel on the market that matches better to it. Although those golden Penns would be a good match too, but you would need the 3000 size. The worst part is - if u watch the label carefully - it says 'Made in China'.
And if u want to have fun, you can use it in saltwater. It's not like a reel that will seize immediately. The guides will eventually rust out, but u can replace them, and the rod only costs $25 anyway. I spend more than that on gas, if i tow the boat..
Oooohhhhh I wish it was a one piece. It is beautiful though. I think its looks appeal to us so much because it reminds us of a cane pole with the color and the black stripes. I know you don't favor the brushed gold colors on reels but man it fits the look of this rod. I've never seen an eagle claw rod. I remember when eagle claw hooks were the bees knees though. Strike King lures were proud to put them on all their crankbaits. Maybe eagle claw is getting ready to come back with quality stuff. Excellent review! If you think this highly about a product I will definitely be looking forward to getting one myself. Thanks again!!!!
I promise you, the connection is TIGHT. And does not bulge, and is not a different color. If u put a drop a crazy glue and snap it in, it will be 1 piece forever. The rod is really fun and reminds me of the good times..
if u do buy one, please put some polyUrethane on the handle (thats what mine has). A couple of layers, if u want to get that look. Not only looks good, but fish scales will never stick to the handle. Slime will just wipe off. If this stuff didn't have health warnings i'm sure they would put it on all rods.
Wow you are the information channel when it to straight honest opinion on what's out thanks for sharing my friend
Great story telling. LOL. Great story for scary fishing trip around the campfire.
I have the same rod. But its 6'6". Perfect for trout and musky fishing. Sadly I didnt treat the cork but it's ok. Great rod. I'm gonna buy another when I get a chance.
I've been wanting to pick one of these up for a while. I think I'm going to get one of the lightweight fly rods though for creek fishing. At least at first.
Team Cramer every american must have one of these :)
I'm getting the 13ft heavy spinning version ( if I can find one anywhere)
I got the 7'6 for walleye love it man
Definitely in my price range!
I believe these are the same rods that Bass Pro sells as the glass "Micro Lite" series. Same price; looks exactly the same.
NO. I thought the same thing, but they are not! I know what you are talking about but NO. I tried them and those are UNCONTROLLABLY wobbly and super soft and good for NOTHING! They are both glass, and have same color, but the blank is different. These rods are not wobbly, and not that soft..
@@ifishcatfish Thanks for saving me money!!
So, after watching this informative review, I went online to Amazon to purchase this rod for $27.00. I figured the rod was soo cheap, I would give it a shot. When I found the rod on Amazon, I clicked on the purchase button which took me to another screen to complete my order. At this time, I noticed a little warning below indicating “Prop 65 CA Cancer Warning.” I’m ashamed to say that I’m a CA resident, but that’s besides the point. When I looked into this with the State and then Eagle Claw, I learned the paint and clear coat on this rod has chemicals known to cause cancer....I realize practically everything can probably cause cancer these days, but it certainly scared me away from purchasing it. I thought I would share this with you guys. I’m sure most of my lures and rods are made from the same chemicals...lol
well, california started printing cancer labels even on coffee. That state is totally nuts. Even some opinions can cause cancer there : )
If u think the rod is dangerous stock, you are not gona like my next video..
Your wacky state of Commiefornia has a cancer warning on pretty much every single rod on Amazon, no lie. I've actually heard they're gonna start posting cancer warnings on anything patriotic because surely being a proud American is a no-no. I'd pay no attention to that but to each their own.
Great job, as usual. : )
I was setting the drag on a nine foot Eagle Claw spinning rod when it started cracking and broke behind the joint.
which one? my little rods have seen a lot of carp...
informative
Great review
That rod is awesome. Especially for $25 going to go get a few of them. They would be great for fishing the river for walleye.
don't forget to treat the handle with some PolyU ! It will look like mine and stay clean forever! Also good for carp and catfish in the ponds... your daughter would love it!
I tried to order some but they are sold out. 😢
spike in demand after my review.. haha : )
Sorry to hear that but they should come back in stock. This is actually a new model that just came out this year... I am sure it will be around for a while.
It's seems to me that a lot of your rods reviews, are rods that are near impossible to get?
Good observation, but made 2 years after the review. When i made these reviews these were cheap and widely available rods. But people bought them up even before covid.
@@ifishcatfish I see, I've been to Bass Pro, Academy, and Wal Mart trying to find the rods that have been showcased on your site, because I thought they were good!!👍
you can call them and see if they have stock in other stores. It is unlikely they will have stock in your store
@@ifishcatfish Our Bass Pro in Spanish Fort Al show 4 Prodigy rods and when I arrived there they said they had none! Can you still buy the Eagle claw rods that you were showing a few months ago. Also I can't find the Shakespeare miro rod, neither can I find the Daiwa Presso rod that I like so much.
All of these rods are still current models, they are not discontinued. Just everything is out of stock. You have to talk to them on the phone and maybe get them to ship something to your store.
They are for the price really nice
Nvm, just finished the video and saw your opinion about longer rod lol
Hi, I'm looking for the 7 foot but I can't find it. Where did you purchase yours from?
Cabelas, but they shipped it from TN or something. They didnt have it lically
Very nice, I like.
How's the $15 Daiwa Sweepfire 7' glass medium rod (swd702mfs) compare to this eagle claw rod? Thank you for your time!
very wobbly. and ugly. This one is not wobbly. And its gorgeous.
thanks for making this review. Do you still recommend this rod for a beginner? I found the same rod brand, except its 10', and heavy (dont know if its literally heavy to handle or the action lol). I am planning to use it as a surf rod. Thank you
i ABSOLUTELY recommend it for beginner! It is $29 and made of glass and not likely to break.
If u tell me what size u want, i can get u links
@@ifishcatfish Thank you. I am looking at the 10' rod, which you said in the video that it is too thick. I found 1 on amazon for $30 yesterday, but now I dont see it.
No. Forget about the 10 foot. Just forget about it. 7 foot is great, and 6'6 is good. I can give u links to those if u think they will work for u
@@ifishcatfish Thanks for asking. Yea, I saw those on Amazon, its just that I want longer rod for surf fishing. And yep, surf rods arent cheap but...I am beginner and still have a lot to learn so dont wanna spend a lot of money into a fishing rod.
Glass rods are absolutely the worst for surf fishing. U need something carbon. I dont have expertise in surf fishing tho.
Can the Shimano Sahara 4000 4.7:1 gear ratio still be purchased? From the Shimano website I only see the 4000XGFI which is 6.2:1 gear ratio.
thats because in america 4.7 to 1 goes for SLOW and is derogatory and stores cannot sell it. It is perceived as bad, horrible. So shimano does not ship low gear ratio to USA. In japan they are advertised as power-custom models, and thats what they really are, but thats too slow for american bass anglers
@@ifishcatfish So you purchased this from Japan as a JDM product? Can you share where you purchased it? I'm also curious as to why you prefer lower gear ratios in your reels?
could you recommend a cork treatment?
I bought and used all cork treatments i found. Some are made for cork sole on a shoe, some are fishing specific - there is no difference. They all work well, but are VERY EXPENSIVE for a small bottle. This rod was treated with PolyUrethane - 3 layers. More layers makes it look darker - and i prefer the darker look. If u want to keep it light - only 1 layer. But read the label of the PolyU and use at your own risk - the product has health warnings.
@@ifishcatfish Thank you very much
Looks nice.
someone needs to be paying me for making these nice shots... i made this rod look way better than if u see it brand new at Cabelas...
@@ifishcatfish You made it look like a St. Croix, lol. They owe you money!
Okay I am reminding you about the model number of the 6'6" rod.
CG66MS2
Thumbs up on CZcams or in real life? Please specify.
thanks for this somewhat disturbing question... : ) - CZcams only!
Couldn’t find any flaw? Didn’t you say it had saltwater hook keeper..
just a hook keeper.. - although.. I am not familiar with the attributes of a saltwater hook keeper, so this just might be one - who knows.. : )
What about the exposed threads at the rear of the reel seat?
Lol I got the 13ft model lil too much for me its freaking huge
its crazy thick...
Good one again
i appreciate that !
What's the model # of the 6'6" rod?
out of town the whole week. Hopefully i remember to send it next week. If not - feel free to remind me. And yes, you will need the model number if u want this rod... no other way to get it..
I had one of those, but MH baitcaster.
Broke it on a 6’ alligator gar!
Good value, but don’t try pulling 80-100# fish with them! Lol
dude... this is NOT the specified load - lol : )
Until that moment I really liked the rod! Great value!
I have a green eagle craw rod a Jerry McGinnis fishing hole !!!!@
Thanks to i_fish, after this video I went straight to Sportsmans Warehouse and bought the 6'-6" and treated all of my cork handles with urethane I already had.
Lemme tell ya - they look BETTER every year. They start to have this old yellow look.. like very expensive fly fishing rods..
U have a ghost in ur house 🤔
did u hear my kids or... shadow or... : )
ooohhhh... i get it - hahahaha ; ) yeah, i do : )
I can't find it and i've be scouring the internets
Cabelas has it. Most of the southern stores. Call them and give them the model number and ask them to ship it to a store near you, then go pick it up
Try ordering from Eagle Claw directly.
OKAY I'M DONE WITH YOU LET ME CONFIRM WITH YOUR WIFE... I NEED TO TALK TO HER
