  • A quick iMovie tutorial on how to get that cinematic look and color grade. iMovie may be an entry level software but it definitely has some powerful tools that allow you to get some cool custom looks for your videos.
    Also you can see from the video that we were using log picture profiles like Sony s-log2 that requires color correction. And we were still able to get some good images using iMovie.

    This was so useful! I've been going crazy with DaVinci Resolve because it is too hard! And after watching your video it only took me about 2 minutes to achieve a beautiful color correction with iMovie. Thanks!!

    Thank you for that! I am just now beginning to get into the editing world with my videos and I believe I would get overwhelmed starting off if I went big and got one of the more advanced softwares before I even know how to use iMovie.       Great to hear! You can get a lot done in iMovie. It's a great starter program. And then eventually when there's something you can't do in iMovie you'll move onto a program like Final Cut Pro.

      Hey thanks for watching. Someone else asked this as well. Here's what you need to do:
      "Once you have the look you want on the first clip "command + c" to copy the color correction, selected all the other clips you would like to apply it to. Then "option + command + v" to paste the effects to all the other clips."

    Another helpful vid, thanks / new sub :) My main issue now with iMovie is: vignette. The canned vignette effect is not adjustable, and just too heavy. Any suggestions on achieving a more subtle vignette effect?

      Hi thanks for watching and subbing. Yeah those effects in iMovie are basic and aren't adjustable. However you could make a custom image using keynote and then overlay it iMovie to get the look you're going for.

    Thank you for you tutorial. i'm having to do this clips by clips, is it possible to copy the color grade setting and apply it to the rest of my clips?

      Hi thanks for watching. Once you have the look you want on the first clip "command + c" to copy the color correction, selected all the other clips you would like to apply it to. Then "option + command + v" to paste the effects to all the other clips.

      Same steps as in the video should get you there. But also, shooting correctly in camera is a large part as well.

    Hello boss, would love to know more about your studio lighting setup and what you use. If you care to share. Hoping to source some smaller lights to aid in ‘pieces to camera’ shots; looking to enhance the look of my upcoming videos. I don’t want to go down the full expense big lighting route at the moment.     i am taking advantage of the free month of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite to see if I need tools like Premier Pro. Now I will go back and play with iMovie, and see if it is all that I need.
