Hey Simon I`ve seen those comments recently & what I think is that some of your audience ( it`s not many really is it? ) cannot believe that you don`t like what they like & they seem to take it as some kind of personal insult. I note these same people are doing it on other beer channels too so you`re not alone. You`ve got a sizable loyal following which proves your success, I just think that whenever you try to appeal to a large audience the adage ` you can`t please all of the people all of the time` really does apply here. It`s difficult because you put your soul into the channel but at the end of the day you`ve got to let such negativity wash over you. Keep up the good work matey!

I had to watch this. Right to reply and that. Fair play Simon, you didnt spit the dummy and you put your point of view across quite well. A good review of a "run of the mill beer". I can accept that because this time you reviewed the beer fairly in my opinion. The water in Ellon is quite possibly very different from the water they used in the early days in Aberdeen and this is what your noticing. Im keeping my subscription because its thanks to you I've enjoyed my 5 ltre kegs of Warsteiner and Budweiser Budvar over the summer.

When Brewdog announced their losses of £24m in 1Q23 and the fact that the cost of producing Punk IPA had risen by 34% it was reasonably obvious that something was going to give. They boast that Lost Lager is the "fastest growing UK craft beer" but selling 10 cans for £10 in Lidl is going to do that when people are looking for 40 cans for their party/barbecue and see a well known name and probably don’t do side-by-side comparisons when selecting beer for their mates to get pissed on!
A few years ago they trashed Anheuser Busch over their purchasing of Goose Island and now they’re in bed with Budweiser to brew in China. It’s the economic model,of growth/growth/growth that eventually brings every niche disrupter into the global aspirations of the venture capitalists and corporate investors. They can continue planting trees and going carbon-neutral for beer production but the beer still needs to be GOOD!

100% the same here. I love going to a Brewdog bar but I very rarely have any of their beers for the reasons you mentioned. It was more frequent until they discontinued Jet Black Heart. I keep being told it's now called Ace of Spades but it tastes completely different.
My go-to in a Brewdog bar unless I spot anything else on the guest beers is the fantastic Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen which they seem to have all the time now.

Surprising because when you score beers at 6 out of 10 or more they tend to be quite good beers. Surely Brewdog watch your reviews so why don't they change their source of water? Also, why do they bring out so many new beers? I've lost count of how many Brewdog beers there are on the shelves. Most are expensive for what they are. Seems they need to reset their direction.

Fair play for responding to the comments. I have criticised you for being biased against Brewdog and I think in this video you go a way to explaining why with your Ferrari analogy. I too remember when Brewdog seemed to produce banger after banger and now most of their beers seem firmly centre of the pack to me. I just wonder if your despondency about Brewdog is out of a disappointment with how their beers stack up now. Perhaps there is an ideal for you that they can never seem to live up to again.
Brewdog shifted the paradigm of brewing in the UK with the likes of Punk and lets be real they are never going to do that again and you and I are never going to recapture that first taste. That is ok though as there are now Verdant, Pollys et al doing this for me. I for one do not think Brewdog beers have declined a huge amount (although they have changed for sure and there are now some absurd novelty beers like Candy Kitten which are pretty grim, but they are profitable I guess, I just dodge them) I just think that perhaps my tastes have changed, others have caught up and their marketing shtick has become a bit tiring.
Perhaps I am right and this has lead you to criticise them a bit more or perhaps not. Either way, I still enjoy your reviews (and some Brewdog beers) and I'll pipe down haha!
    Cheers for the entertainment.

I feel like you give BrewDog too hard a time. I don’t think I tried the original Punk as I don’t think I could afford it at the time and I used to only be able to afford cheaper Aldi beers, but the first time I bought a can remember thinking how great a beer it was. I was up in Aberdeen earlier this year and thought I’d drive up to Ellon and stop off in the brewery bar. I was driving so could only have one pint and had to have punk, I’ve never known a beer that’s so drinkable as that one right there, I could have had 3 or 4 pints easily. I wish I tried the original but even now that beer is still a really good drinkable beer.
Hazy Jane the same, I dunno if I tried the original but as a beer to drink, now, it’s really nice, it’s so drinkable, I had a few cans of double hazy and I actually think I prefer the current standard hazy. Id happily throw a case of it in my van for a weekend away, not every beer needs to be a craft beer, hazy is so drinkable, and apart from Camden Hells and IPA it’s probably better than anything Ab Inbev spew out. Honestly you can’t drink craft beer all day, I’d happily drink hazy all day though. I had a case of lost the other day, and that’s a cracking lager. Here’s the thing, If you want to grab a case of beer, to have a few beers, there’s nothing better than punk, hazy and lost. Yes there’s better craft beers individually but apart from maybe Corona (yeah yeah I know) there is nothing I would even buy a case of.
If they sell out to Heineken though, that’s it, I am done too.

I must admit the design they've used on the packaging looks appealing. This is probably why they've managed to bring out so many mediocre beers and gotten away with it because they're good with the marketing. They are good at making their products stand out on the shelf. Other companies obviously do this but Brewdog are like the masters of it. Just a shame the quality has fallen but this is how it is now sadly most people will buy with their eyes. When it comes to a beer channel like yours you give everything a fair try I find but it's your opinion and we may agree or disagree that is just how it is.
