I know this is 10 years old now, but I'd love to have that car. Brought back a ton of memories. I had 2 of them when I was a senior in high school back in 1984. My favorite year was '79 because they had the rounded tail-lamps and not the flat ones from '76-'78. I only ever saw one 264 GLE here in the States back then. Mine were both 264 GL's with the 4-speed + OD manual and leather seats. I later found out, of course, that the PRV V-6 was kinda crap, but I loved it back then. The fan clutch was very aggressive and I loved the way it roared. Not much acceleration but it sounded like it had it. ha ha. Always loved the cute little tachometer in the middle too. Being 17 and driving a Volvo to school didn't get you many dates but I loved those cars. Solid as granite and very quiet inside for the time; you just learned to ignore the key buzzer.
Had one as the family car when I was a kid. Effing V6 blew up on a road trip. I was just a kid, but I seem to recall it being a big issue and expensive to fix. It was a real limo though, quiet and rode well. Still remember the leather seats, and the rear reading lamps that just seemed to shout luxury.
Lovely car my dad had a light blue one with a sunroof we drove from Northern Ireland to Greece in it. Awesome cars :-)
Having a Volvo just like fly to heaven. Driving a Volvo just like walk in heaven... I fall in love with this car...especialy the station wagon / estate type...Amazing ...😀😊
The XC series especially .. driving a XC90 myself
I had a 72 164 and this is an update of that car. This car really has great visibility and had a nice heft on the road. The PRV V6 was problematic and Volvo didn't use an independent rear suspension so it jiggled some in the back on bad roads, but it was still comfortable, quiet and felt like a lux car at the time. This was the flagship sedan until the 760 came in the early 80s.
The terrible french engine let Volvo down and quite a few disgruntled owners too - me included , a “ boat anchor “ drivetrain
@@muckle8The 2.8 Litre that came after this engine (2664cc) was much improved, as used in the last incarnation of the 760.
@Gareth Ifan. Yes it was a bit better but still a boat anchor , not in the same league as the 2.8 and 2.9 straight six engines Volvo used
Nostalgia for my childhood kicking in. My grandparents drove a Volvo like this one and it lasted forever!
What a stunning, beautiful car. Of course there's going to be marks and dings on it, but the overall condition is stunning. The PRV is not that bad if looked after and it even went on with a big turbo bolted on in the Renault 25 V6 Turbo and Alpine A310/A610 sports cars from France.
It is a very special car. Also here in Holland , you can find them here but they have a very high mileage , but this car is so clean it is defenately a must have for a Volvo Lover.
volvo 264 uno de mi preferido lo mantuve por 11 años hasta llegar a 268 mil milla sin fallar ni la transmisión ni el motor hasta que se lo regale a mi hermano quien lo conserva todavía
What you have there is the top of Viking technology.
And as a Swedish guy. i salute thee!
i was about to say that, mine's an OM616 1983 its only got 350 000kms but i picked it up from a nearby field where it sat 4 years, payed the owner 50€ for it and drove it home, engine has never been a problem on it, only time it stopped was when it ran out of diesel.. :P though i know one who had a w124 250TD with 900 000kms and he never used a block heater on it when it was below -20°c. the battery dies before these engines do in cold weather!
That's the most horrendous door chime in automotive history
If you think that's awful, check out Cassandra at Pedal Pumping starting her 1987 Renault Alliance GTA. I don't think I've ever heard a louder, more shrill buzzer.
DaOldSchoolRapLova96 ever heard a Toyota pickup door buzzer? Muuuch worse
Only in the USA 😬
This car brings back a huge memory. My grandfather had a maroon one same
I had the Bertone 264TE Limousine. Beautiful car but it kept catching fire and never fired on more than 5 cylinders, so I got rid of it rather than throwing money at it
This one popped up in my suggested feed again - Man this was a beautiful car. I showed the one you still have to a friend of mine - she might want to buy it for her daughter.
Good DNA in that one! The PRV engine is awesome!
Lambda Sond is referring to the Oxygen(Lambda) sensor that measures the oxygen level on the exhaust allowing the car’s fuel injection system to trim the air fuel ratio.
Fraternity lol.
yeah .. cam guy talking 'sound'!!?? He left something at home .. the 'top floor'
Great car, but old 240s looks much better with the swedish headlights and not the american type :)
LAMBDA SOND is the emissions control
That is a gorgeous Volvo!!!!!!! I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to own that car.
Fond memories of taking the motorway from bellingham to andover with Father to visit the Chuckly Professor in one of these back in the days of my youth eh wot
Loved this model. Beautiful car.
The front you have is made by Volvo for America. In the rest of the world it looked differently.
wow nice car man , I love it , I have 3 volvo's 940 GL , 740 Tubro , and a 740 GLE ,
volvo for life
oh god the buzzing or beeping noises american spec cars make when you have the ignition that must drive people mad. it sounds like an active beehive in that 264
im from sweden and i must say that is a nice car. love 200-series. take care of it ;)
Lambda system was found on several European cars, including several models of your 'specialty'-- Mercedes-Benz.
What a car, nice video.
That Volvo looks like it're ready to transport 3 friends to go see KISS! (Detroit Rock City!)
that car is so worth restoring and will be good for 500k miles if looked after
that looks spectacular
My grandfather bought this actual car for his VP of sales back in the day. After he was let go the car sat in the garage for a while and eventually he gave it to my dad as his first car.
-That toggle switch on the left lower part of the dash was a manual override my dad/grandpa put in for the electric fan.
-Those mud guards on the back were falling off so when he brought it into the dealership their fix was using a self tapping screw and went straight through the spare tire.
That is SO freaking cool man!!! I love these Quasi Classics!! Thank you for telling your story made my day... It was a very well cared for car and was fun to drive ;-)
nice Volvo, that car still has a long life ahead of it
That is a beautiful car.
I would be in the market to buy that model, but I am afraid of the V6 option. Im more into the '80's 240 Turbo model. Im more familiar with the mechanics of the Turbo, and the '87ish-93 240 B230 redblock cars. Ive had 6 in my lifetime, and still have a 1990 240DL since 1998 with now 150,200 miles on the clock.
I really had no idea that volvo 200 series came with v6 engines from factory
The 164 had an inline 6 from the factory.
I had a Peugeot with this engine in it. A 604 I believe it was
La macchina piu bella che mai stata fatta nella storia
Looks great!
GREAT CARS HAD THE 264 244 360 CAN TAKE PLENTY ABUSE GREAT WORK HORSE ALWAYS GREAT STELL IN BODY WORK
sounds good, but here nobody can afford to drive a v8 every day, although "yanks" are very common here in Sweden, there is kind of like a yank culture and there are dated days when they close the streets in cities and they drive old cadillacs, chevs, buick, all those models up to a year of 1970 something, and its simply called the "cruising".
i think Sweden has the biggest number of yanks in the world not including US of course. ;)
yes but then again the fuel consumption is compensated by the supreme comfort, ride quality, performance and size of the van and the good thing is that the consumption doesnt really change when you load up the van completely with stuff.
Allright! Thats funny , i hope to see him one day becouse i think it did go to someone who loved these cars.
yup, solid diesel engines without any electronical garbage.its almost if they were built on the principle like tractor engines, which is basic, solid, reliable.the om engines work very well also with vegetable oil also and as far as i have seen work the most happiest with it compared to some other diesel engines.
beautiful
you should keep that car for yourself, fantastic car i get my license soon and i want a volvo 244 late 80s
Looks like the outdoor lawn of the Psycho house area
lambda sond means it has Oxygen sensor
1979 the year I was born. 36 years now... My dad owned a Black chevy Malibu in the 80's. The Iraqi soldiers blew it up during the Gulf war in Kuwait :(
@CerealMarshmallows lambda sound was an emissions reduction system for volvos. it measured something about the exhaust and sent data back to the engine
Lambda Sond .. Swedish for Lambda Sensor ... *nothing* about soUnd
By the way, what did it sell for? I sort of want one.
I am not sure if you are joking with some of this. Volvo mechanical sunroofs, despite your assertion, break all the time (well, the cables stretch). I found it bizarre to hear you talk about how great the exterior is - and then show us a dozen spots where it is beat to hell.
George Snyder well.... considering this car is 36+ years old and with those flaws pointed out, IMO, its pretty clean~
Lambda-Sond is the Swedish term for Oxygen Sensor.
Thats what I meant, my bad..
i am Swedish and i don't understand what you are trying to say
Check out that old-school key-left-in-igntion buzzer at the 4:39 mark and the seat belt buzzer at the 9:32 mark...sounds irritating, eh? That's what a Chrysler seat belt buzzer should have sounded like back in the 1970s!
Loving the US style headlamps on it - so different!
Pretty interesting car for someone who loves volvos, need some repairs though
That buzzer sounds like a chainsaw!
the original B230ET engine has 280hp in it, and the B234T (16valve-turbo) had 200hp :)
awesome
This looks better than mine
oh you have a Volvo 264 terrific!here in Nairobi, Kenya I've only seen 4 cars of this model two green ones, one silver, one blue one .am looking forward to buying one this rare legend early 2018.hope will find a willing seller.
one of the Volvo 264 had 1900cc 4 cylinders fuel injection engine
@@bensonwarungu343 all the 264 have a v6. But engine swap is possible
my dad had a '74 Wagon and it was in much better condition then this. no dings, leather interior, 5th gear added onto a 4 speed manual. it was amazing for a 30year old car at the time.
yeah ive heard us use veggie oil in their diesels, i dont know how to do it, also heard it costs quite a bit to convert. :P
but these engines run cheap on regular diesel aswell especially in the us where fuel is basically free! ;) haha
You might not need to convert anything. I had a diesel Sherpa van which ran on neat Mazola before it became more expensive than diesel. A cyclist at the traffic lights once told me my exhaust was making him hungry 😂
Lol, 1 year warranty if your around where I bought it. Cool car.
lambda sond means that the car can sensor the fuel/air rate usually comes with a catalyst but in a 1979 car i dunno
well i dont drive a diesel myself also,since i have a 1988 gmc vandura starcraft 5.7 :)
haha! I like that :D can I have permission to use your term? my 2000 Volvo v70 has major fizoodle! lmao that's a great word. even if its made up.
Super car. Not supercar. There's a difference.
"Where is ze money Lebowski?!" Haha :-)
don't worry donny, these men are cowards
AWESOME CAR!!! it has the lambadasod fuel injection adjustment system thats cool!!!!!!
2023? holler at me
Still got the car
is a rear fog light
oh really? haha i thought you were american. ;) yeah ive heard of those pretty cool cars but i cant help but think of the consumption. haha ;) but maybe in the future if ive got a good job and steady pay, a weekend car might be affordable. ;) but i am a sincere mercedes freak, i can barely imagine driving another car! but i like old beetles aswell. ;)
really, when was a volvo v-6 powerful stock
IS THIS SOLD?
safety car and safer than a cimmarron
11:12 , hello little bro.
Is this car still available?
i think the most reliable engine title isnt only for the volvo,do i need to remind you the OM series mercedes diesel engines?
ITS sold ??!!?
Looks almost like a chrysler lebaron from the front
wow that sounded thirsty! ;) haha
Right on man!! We should smoke a joint in it!! Hotbox that baby!! Then we can drive around and pick up chicks!!
I WISHD ID HAD 264 AND 240 TURBO
Damn those corona rims look mint. Mine on my 244 GL 1984 look like shit.
well im from sweden so natturally i love volvo :D but most volvo's here in sweden does not have those delightful GTX headlanmps :P
ugly yank import rule
I think Lambda Sond is the interior designer, like the Bertone editions.
thats a joke, right?
wal3ry no, i just got mixed up, my bad.
supercar.....
The Peugeot Renault Volvo was an engine with an aluminum block and head produced between 1974 and 1998, 150 kg This engine was a collective project for a big sedan as Peugeot 604, Renault 30, and the Volvo 264 series II, used also with some AMC products. Unfortunately, the engine disliked Canadian winter, the alu engine contracts with the cold and failed at an early age. Curious because Renault use alu for a while. For example, Lotus picked a 1.6 l alu bloc from the R-16. De Lorean installed the PVR in his famous car. French car manufacturers developed numerous versions, some very powerful with a turbo that had from 250 to 400 hp.
