One thing for sure is that you broke the stigma. You even made me feel like redoing the whole thing all over again. People are not so comfortable walking around with towels, blankets or doeks but you came and showed us that we can still rock our makoti attires and still slay.

Very interesting. I'm Pedi, married to a Xhosa man. My point of view is that respect can not be determined by conformance to a dress code (uniform). And the issue i have the most is the knowledge that the makoti (maak ons tee) dress code was taken from a concept of German maids, it's not authentically Xhosa. And again, my view is that when a family welcomes you as one of their own, they dont take you through an initiation process, give you uniform, consider you as domestic help or have any expectations that they dont have on their own children. They instead receive you and treat you as one of their own. But I do believe that a wife must dress respectfully, treat her inlaws with utmost respect and love them like her own biological family. I also feel like all cultures should shift their focus from practices that add no value to instilling quality values, like building strong and resilient families that hold up morals, that build long lasting family legacy. And i am not saying that the makoti attire adds no value, but I am saying that I see a big emphasis on a makoti dress code and the ignoring of other very important values like Education and moral values on all their children. I truly love Xhosa people, I love the Eastern Cape, and my wish for the Xhosa people is that they can achieve more economically and socially while preserving their true authentic culture. I am saying all this from a place of respect, and I hope I have not offended anyone, I just think that us young people need to have a dialog and see where we can improve

You are suppose to wear it until uzale, Im saying suppose because I didn't really had to wait for ukuze ndimithi/ndizale my in-laws just decided to undiyekisa uynxiba. Kuthi into that symbolizes ugcina iimfihlo zomzi wakho yilamigca yekhetshemiya that you mentioned ba funeka ungayivezi. I literally never comment but I loved video so much.

If I listen to u carefully , your in laws are basically saying it's time for maturity. You can't be up n down the street screaming eating up until late. Get home n be responsible like close curtains switch on lights. They're teaching u how to make the home warm n welcoming. I like the part where they make u pound maize ,fetch water from the well. I could tell u don't know how to do it. Bt it's the attitude that counts n showing youth that it can be done. Besides , this is how u are going to pass it to Ukho and Nkosi makoti's. I like your willingness to learn and respect your culture. If u despise it other pple will do the same. Thank u Lino.
