Brother Halverson....I have always thought that for almas Angel to be assigned to bring Alma glad tidings, that this had to be such a wonderful task for Him. You are the first person I have ever found to recognize this. I believe that when we return to the covenant path, that this brings Joy to the Lord, and our Heavenly parents. When I think of the pain that I caused my Savior...I deeply sorrow and repent....when I think of the Joy that it brings to His perfect heart...I find perfect peace and a new strength to continue on the Path. We all need to help each other Home...on both sides of the veil...Thank you again for your spiritual insights😇

When listening to the beginning of this lesson I had an epiphany. Really when being a prisoner being held against your will it's your very own will in which you are imprisoned by. So when you give your will over to the Lord and put it all on him rather following his will knowing that he's going to take care of you and yours then you're free. Develop that trust in love with your heavenly father and know in your heart and mind that he's going to take care of our needs and wants and desires as long as they're honorable through his will and in his time. In realizing that and knowing that I've been made free. Thank you

Isn’t that interesting w/ Amulek as he knew; yet, knowledge, alone, is not enough as even the devils believe yet TREMBLE (Jas 2.19)!
It’s really true the degree of our testimony (Rev 12.11) depends MORE on how we FEEL about what we know as Elder McConkie noted “ALL RELIGION is a FEELING!”
It’s a marvelous feeling ur spirit, Brother Jared!
    Thank u again & again!
    ..receive (Mosiah 15; dc 84.33-38) a prophet (Num 11.29) receive a prophet’s (Rev 19.10) reward (Mt 10.41)!

When I was an investigator my ward in Scarborough totally took me under their wing, meals and get togethers. I wasn’t used to this kind of attention. I loved learning found it totally awesome that you prayed freely from your hearts, not ‘our Father ‘ every time. Your chapel is warm, not freezing cold even in summer. These were the small things that slowly cemented me and investigators need cementing. Because many after being Baptised seem to drift away. I had incredible experiences when I was investigating after two weeks lessons I went on a plane with my daughter to see my cousins in America 8 hour flight, with my new Book of Mormon on my knee, my daughter looked down ‘ mummy put that book away, people will see.’ I prayed for the first time Heavenly Father please prove to me that you exist and help me see the Book of Mormon is true. A month later I was running for the font. However I had to wait 27 days before I was Baptised it was a favour to the missionary who has taught me while I was in America to be Baptised on his 20th Birthday. Two weeks before I was invited to a fireside in Wakefield 4 hours drive from me. This fireside was with Non other than Dallin H Oaks in a little town in Yorkshire thank goodness I didn’t know him because now I would be totally star struck. I was introduced to him again by my missionary. He gave me such a bear hug, I’ll never forget it. I was blessed totally blessed. I did everything I was asked. And when that very special missionary went back to Utah I felt extremely sad. But my ward looked after me. I was well and truly cemented in the gospel. My seed did not fall on Stoney ground it definitely found luscious soil and I grew.

What a beautiful comment! Thank you for sharing your experience, and your testimony. "Investigators need cementing"--so true! I'm grateful that your ward welcomed you with open arms. That's how it's supposed to be! I'm grateful we get to study the scriptures together!

    Hey Jared,
Thank you so much for what you shared regarding what type of lesson we're receiving whether it is the greater or the lesser portion of the word. Alma 8-12 is not where I am in my personal study, but I took your words to heart and I made some tweaks to the prayer before my study and I changed some things about the way that I studied in an effort to be a seeker after the greater portion of the word. Those small changes and tweaks yielded revelatory experiences this morning. Like Alma where it says he entered the city another way, I really felt God wanted me to approach my study in a different way this morning and those tweaks accompanied by the Spirit of the Lord really made a big difference. Thank you!

IT SEEMS REASONABLE, THAT A GOOD QUARTERBACK ANALOGY COULD TURN INTO A GOOD BASKETBALL POINT GAURD ANANOLGY, WHERE A POINT GAURD RUSHES TOWARD THE BASKET TO SCORE POINTS AND WHEN HE, JESUS CHRIST GETS DOUBLE TEAM HE CAN, WILL DISH IT OFF TO YOU. WHEN YOU RECIEVE THE BALL YOU DUNK OR PUT THE BALL IN THE BASKET AND HE RECIEVES AN ASSIST ADDITION ON HIS NUMBERS.

It’s interesting that in Alma 10:6, Amulek saw the angel who changed his heart on July 4. Our great day of liberty was also Amulek’s great day of liberty.

I noticed that as well, but can't be sure exactly how the Nephites "reckoned" their months. But I do like the metaphorical parallel, which, as far as "likening the scriptures unto us" is concerned (1 Ne. 19:23), is more important than historical ones anyway! You've obviously got a great eye for those "likenable" details as well!

To answer your question Margaret, here is the information about unshaken:, which I copies and pasted directly from his site:
"Unshaken" is a channel dedicated to building faith in Jesus Christ and the principles of His restored gospel. It consists of video lessons centered on the scriptures of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and other topics related to building unshaken faith amid society's destabilizing and secularizing influences.
The teacher in these videos is Jared Halverson, a professional religious educator with over twenty years of experience teaching in and directing religious education programs. He has a BA in history and an MA in religious education from BYU, and a second MA in American religious history from Vanderbilt, where he is currently completing a PhD in the same subject, focusing on the history of anti-religious rhetoric.

Just a thought as you were talking about Angelic visitations. I would suppose the same Angel that visited Alma both times also visited Amulek. Not that it would make a difference either way.

When you were talking about David Figeroa I was reminded of a discussion. We had a discussion in Ecuador we called "the Chains of Hell" (obviously not one of the standard charlas). This discussion was given when we determined that a family was not progressing and we were no longer going to be teaching them. In the discussion we would describe what was going to happen to the person we had been teaching. The charla concluded with us telling them that if at any time they wanted to get back on the straight path they should contact the missionaries.. We would leave the contact information. It particularly referenced the scriptures in this weeks readings. www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/bofm/alma/12.11?lang=eng&clang=eng#p11 through next weeks lesson in www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/bofm/alma/13.30?lang=eng&clang=eng#p30
