    All ports on the Pro Max 16 should be 2.5gbs. There is absolutely no reason why they are still using 1 GB these days. Every client I have is using 2.5Gb minimum. I still say the Standard switches are fine for 1 GB, but the Pro models, which are higher in cost for the same amount of ports should all be 100% 2.5 GB. After all, the chip that controls that is stupidly cheap.

      Agreed. Ubiquiti is continuing to drip feed products. You bet your bottom dollar they will come out with a full 2.5 GbE switch once it's reached a point of insanity to not offer it and try to entice people to upgrade their 1 year old equipment...

    • @El3andro
      @El3andro Před 2 měsíci +4

      Disagree; in my region I know no one who needs more than 1 gibt/s. For most customers this switch is more than sufficient I think

    • @cameronschweder8698
      @cameronschweder8698 Před 2 měsíci

      I think this sits nicely below the Enterprise switches and above the Pro switches. If you want full 2.5G you'll need to step up to their Enterprise lineup.

    • @yourpcmd
      @yourpcmd Před 2 měsíci

      @@cameronschweder8698 not true. Case in point is the Enterprise 24 PoE, which I have over 20 in production and it's $800 and has (12) 2.5 GbE, (12) 1 GbE.

      Nonsence, guys in our IT department say otherwise, unless your running big business and have 10gigs this is not needed. you should be lucky to even get 2.5 at all.

    External power supply is for two reasons: Fanless main chassis, and easy compliance for international UL/CSA/CE.

    Not sure why so much hating on this product. To me it seems like a series of compromises and at a reasonable price point. Any small to mid home, or small business, could easily power some APs, cameras, have a few wired devices with this. Not everyone needs a 48 port switch with 120/240v power and 10 trillion gigabit ports.

  • @DPCTechnology
    @DPCTechnology Před 2 měsíci +3

    Nice review, I'm enjoying it, i think the flexibility is nice and most folks have > 16 POE devices. I think this will be a really popular option. It is bringing most of the features of the 24 down to a more affordable price point for people that dont need redundant power options and 8 more points. The mount seems to trigger some but i really like the build of it and that it is reversable.. Great vid as always homie!

    Personal opinion, I would have liked to see more 2.5G ports, and the external power brick doesn't bother me because of the rack mount kit.

      not sure if that would come anytime soon. Would be expensive + not sure if POE++ could even power it.

    The ear and mount design is pretty slick for wall or rack mounting.

  • @bjoern.gumboldt

    If I’m not mistaken, you could also power the (outdoor) Flex with PoE++ and add another data port that way, which is otherwise taken up by the injector (no data) that goes inside the box that the Flex sits in.

      Not to mention powering the new Ultra switch with ++ which would then pass along POE+
      Thinking of this use case for some extra LAN ports downstairs with a basic Mesh AP when the 7’s arrive

    I’m looking forward to stock reaching the UK as the port combination will work well for me. I don’t want or need the fancy RGB lighting though, so that feels like an unnecessary feature and cost.

    definitely interesting how unifi made the power supply external for this switch. At least it wont be that bad to switch if the power supply does go bad though. Thanks Cody.

    1gbs is not competitive these days, even given gimmicks like etherlightning. I wish they were all 2.5 or 10g.

    Another great video, thank you! I'm struggling to see why I would go for the 24-port version of this switch that costs twice as much when I could buy 2 of these for the same price and get 32 ports instead of just 24! Plus, it's fanless! The only downside I can think of is the extra space it would take.

  • @reneb5222

    Great one! What does it mean when etherlighting burns Red? It Connects a powerline wifi and works fine.
    Found it. Means faulty cable

  • @LordSaliss
    @LordSaliss Před 2 měsíci

    I used this switch as my main downstairs switch now. That let me use an RJ45 transceiver (no fiber in walls from builder) to get 10gb networking downstairs now, and lets me use a wifi 7 AP without bottlenecking it down to a 1gb connection 👍 Dont care about Etherlighting, dont care about having more than 8 ports, but it was the cheapest switch they have with 10gb uplink and 2.5gb poe ports.

    can the PSU bracket fit on the other side of the switch too? I prefere the switch uplinks to be on the far right of the rack with all other uplinks.

  • @liutang
    @liutang Před 2 měsíci

    You forgot the US-Flex, which can deliver a higher power budget with POE++. This will allow you to run one cable to external locations and let the Flex drive more POE devices.

  • @h5x0r
    @h5x0r Před 22 dny

    Considering the price point of this thing, the external power brick and lack of 2.5G make it look pretty stupid tbh. Too bad Ubiquiti does not offer anything cheaper if you're looking for something capable of PoE+ and 10gig SFP

  • @JPEaglesandKatz
    @JPEaglesandKatz Před 2 měsíci

    I'm curious is this day and age why there are still 1gig ports on a switch. I mean I assume at this time producing a 2.5 gig port or 1gig port costwise doesn't make much of a difference.. So why?

  • @TheJulianJES
    @TheJulianJES Před 2 měsíci

    Does the switch have an internal temperature sensor that's shown in UniFi Network? (like for the Pro-Max-24 -- or is it not shown, as there's no fan?)

    I absolutely hate everything about that etherlighting, it can have some applications in troubleshooting however it's excessive and gaudy especially for a professional setting as RGB rarely has a place in professional settings.
    Other than the unicorn vomit it looks like a solid switch

    Hi Cody, can the SFP+ ports be used as regular 10 Gb switch ports, or are they reserved for up/downlink only? I can see a scenario where one of the ports would be uplinked to USW-Aggregation, while the other could be used to connect to a PC running 10 Gb interface.
