  • Thousands of pilgrims make the journey every year to Santiago de Compostela where the resting place of St James (the apostle of Jesus Christ in the Bible). The journey requires 100km (62 miles) and the entire Camino de Frances ( the most popular route) is a total of 500km. Many describe it as life-changing, a spiritual reformation, and many more ways of their personal transformation. Is visiting the Cathedral, a UNESCO site worth it for those who haven't walked the 100km? Find my thoughts and other things you can see in this video while in Santiago de Compostela.

    Would you visit Santiago de Compostela? Do you think you could walk the 100km?

      I’ve walked from St Jean to Santiago de Compostela. 500K. The mass crowds of tourists are not my favorite thing. This is a sacred place for those that made the effort to do the pilgrimage. Tour buses and crowds are at times an assault to the senses of a pilgrim coming in to have a meaningful moment. To all who wish to visit please respect this place for what it is and was meant to be.

    Love the personal journey element you added. Really touching. Duly noted about the crowds and especially the tourist-trap part of it. I always pictured it quite the opposite. But that's what good marketing makes you think. Off-seasons often have really beautiful skies. Crazy how in the 2020s, you can get a full meal like that ANYWHERE.

      I know! I try to show the real side of travel, and that it can bring up emotions and memories that can be unexpected at times. The cost of living here is CRAZY! Honestly really think I may retire over here :)

    14 euros! That's amazing! I feel you on the school thing. I love learning in general but it was definitely a tool as well to get where I wanted to go. The pilgrim museum sounds really interesting.

    Thank you for this video. I plan to visit Santiago de compostela next month so this you video is so helpful.
    How long is the walk from the train station to Santiago de compostela?

    • @CultureTrekking
      @CultureTrekking  Před 9 měsíci

      Only about 10-15 minutes depending on how much you stop, lol. The incline isn’t too bad, there are quite a few stairs to get down to the Main Street though if you have bad knees.
