    These alarms are very cool, but $120 per alarm is kinda hard to swallow lol. Also, I think at that price the alert tones messages should be in sync, and they should have a sounder that's 520 Hz instead of one that's 3000 Hz. I actually think every smoke alarm should be 520 Hz, and it's really frustrating that they're not on the market when they are substantially better at waking people up.

      Yeah, even though they've since come down from $150, I totally agree on the prohibitively high price of approx. $120.
      Need to install 8 of these to replace 7 old ionization detectors here plus one more for the basement. And have done 6 so far mainly through the financing help of 5-pay plans from QVC and HSN.
      But still have two more to go ....

      Correct 1 nest in living room you cant hear in bedroom so you need too have 2 of them .

      The issue I see is the fact these are smart ish smoke detectors and one thing I’ve learned is when you start baking more features into a product the more likely it is to fail/malfunction.

    If you want to test the co alarm safely, connect it to a power strip, put it into a sealed bag, and spray some co into the bag

    So because these are just smart speakers with a assistant? Is it possible to play custom alarm sounds? Or hack it to play custom sounds?
    If so, I want to add Half-Life or Portal 2 alarm or even a meme sound effect. I would absolutely love to hear falling pipe or vine boom.

      Amazon sell them as well, both hard wired and battery options, expensive and will disable when battery needs changing (means buy a new unit)

      @@nics-systems-electric or your latch key kids wear headphones on their devices, so wont hear ANY alarms. Some strobes can be linked into your smoke alarms.

    If you have a Nest Thermostat and you had a CO Alarm or Smoke, it shuts off your AC and Heating System, which can be your furnace

      Because Carbon Monoxide sometimes can come from your furnace, and if the Protect senses carbon monoxide, the Thermostat will turn off your furnace if it was the source of the Carbon monoxide

    Here's how you can test the carbon monoxide sensor: find a can called Solo C6 in your local hardware store, or you can order it online. Step 2: find a small or large container like a plastic ziplock baggie abd put the detector(s) inside. Step:3 spray ziplock bag full of carbon monoxide and then seal it. Hope this helps.

      One other thing, do the test next to a window or in the garage so you can open said door or window to vent the bag out once you are finished.

    I have one of these alarms and sometimes it automatically tests itself mainly monthly. It’s really random. It sounds like the one at 1:38.

      If the smoke levels are too high you won’t be able to silence it until it sees the environment improving.

      They’re expensive so you would never see them installed in a newly built home unless it was requested by a customer

      They suck if u have slow wifi it’ll take a solid 20 seconds for the other alarms to get a signal and if there is an alarm and u have slow wifi none of them can be hushed

    Mate these things were going off last night and I sh!t myself… dust got in the alarm and it said “heads up, smoke has been detected in the childrens room” BRUH we ain’t got no children’s room, it was so cursed hahaha I had to sleep with the lights on after that

      I can top that, as I was napping at the time when a house right behind the one next door to me really caught fire back in late August. And my five Nest Protects were going absolutely crazy as the smoke from it also engulfed and filled my home.
      Scaring the literal bejesus out of me from my sleep ...
      Imagine being abruptly woken to a smoke filled house where you can barely see and 5 loud NPs blaring alerts at you throughout the house.
      Sheesh, a totally scary and unnerving experience to say they least.... 😨 ...

      @@-deez-nuts Happened to me in the middle of the night with my hallway one. It also could not be shut off as it's connected to the mains and has a battery back up! There was not even any smoke or fire. I could not shut it up lol

    The commercial fire alarm system is better than any residential alarm, it is easy to silence and stay silent, compared to hushing it and it beeping 8 minutes later.

      Yes, that's a Gen 2 Nest Protect. A slightly different design than the original Gen 1.

      It can be louder than a Smoke detector if you take it apart, remove the old horn and add the SpectrAlert Advance horn and it turns into a Nest Protect with a SpectrAlert Advanced horn

      @@RandomNJ I can see that and understand that I do wish they were as that’s always the way to go not Wi-Fi or Bluetooth shit but for a retrofit they don’t have to be hardwired interconnected but for this installation that I showed where there is a hard wire conductor for interconnect it would be nice if you could still do it
