Time to sue this incompetent company and stop the monoploy and ridiculus price hike
Don’t forget usage spikes, they said we used more electricity in 2.5 days than we do in 2.5 weeks last January during the freeze. So where is your generator? Do you not have solar on your roof? Who is unprepared again??? You might want to think about it a little harder friend! Just saying. I want to get solar ASAP, I have a generator for now and it's running and powering my critical devices including a window ac unit I keep for just this purpose. What do you have besides spoiled rotting food and a house so hot you can't bear to stay in it? Just curious... when are Texans gonna learn and stop hating on solar and wind power? I don't mean solar and wind farms, either as they are no better than the fuel power plants we have today, I mean solar on your home's roof and a wind turbine or 2 that you can take down and store during the storm and then put right back up again once the storm has passed! Every home in Texas aught to be energy independent, the "grid" should be for backup purposes only!!! Just saying, I wish my fellow Texans would quit being such sheep when it comes to solar and wind power we need all forms of power not just what big oil want's us to have! HELLO!!!!

That what she said yesterday!!!!
They say they are "assessing the damage" to cover for the fact that they didn't pre-stage crews before the storm because they were convinced it wouldn't make landfall this far up the Texas coastline... and they were flat WRONG!
They are assessing the assessment of the assessors and then they will coordinate the coordination of the coordinators. What a load of swill from this mouthpiece.
The power outage problem in Houston following the recent hurricane underscores a major issue with infrastructure. It's concerning that in a city where residents pay significant taxes, they still experience outages due to outdated above-ground power systems. Houstonians rightfully expect better service in return for their tax contributions. It's imperative that CenterPoint Energy and city officials prioritize upgrading to underground systems to ensure reliability and meet the expectations of its residents.
Dude I'm on barker and i10 next to businesses that have power and my actual apartment complex down the st is still blacked out. I don't get it
Houston is so Fragile, Even a Little storm thats not a hurricane we lose power, Sad
Center point is the problem
Oh it was a Cat I still... Ike was a Cat 3 in 2008 when it came across this area, and didn't cause this much damage. It's not so much the size of the storm or it's wind strength, but the stupidly of the people who just will never learn. smh! 😐
In a city like Houston, power cables need to be underground. Although we've been told it's very expensive, they could charge each subscriber a certain fee, such as $2,000, spread over a number of years to resolve this issue.
Not one alert yet. Seems like this huge corporation could spend a little more manpower for a city as large as ours.
Absolutely insane for a category 1, as if we don’t regularly get them every few years. Not looking forward to what will happen if we got a 5!
Hate to say it but it would probably look like Carricou which pretty much flattened and destroyed every home but what amazed me were the people all had smiles on there faces just happy to be alive. However in Houston at least on here seems to be poor me and it is horrible for them but that’s the risk we take when we ride out any hurricane big or small.

Of course, they get those millions either way
During the derecho we got no communication until around day 3 of no power. I was in contact with my neighbors and we were all getting different emails saying power was restored already, would be restored by x time. The time would come and go. It was awful.
Do you have power now? I'm dealing with the same thing right now . My whole neighborhood has power except for 10 houses . My concern now is if we're gonna have to wait till they come back . I doubt they will come back just to fix 10 houses .
I still don’t have power after being told in a message from the alert my lights was on Tuesday at 5pm. I called CenterPoint and no one ever came to the phone. We still don’t have lights. Another message says we are working on it. The box is is plain sight and not one person has been in our neighborhood. ALL LIES.

This is what makes it worse. Losing power to me, isn't that big of a deal. Even if for a few days. It's the off grid feeling once power is out. It cuts off internet, phones, everything. So, you are back to the 1900's. ;) Add lack of communication from Centerpoint and it makes it worse so.
Best comment I’ve seen. Power outage we can handle. Not being able to get updates, internet slacking, barely can make phone calls and text messages not going through is what pisses me off the most. This so called technology is for the birds.

I have an generator hook up to my gas line and breaker box thanks to my higher learning. My kids are in the pool right now chilling. I only feel bad for folks in apartments they should be a priority right now in my book.
The majority of them are contractors and they only work until it gets dark and then go back to hotel. They don’t give a damn! The longer it takes, the more money they make.
I think we can all agree we can't wait or depend on Centerpoint so, we have to better prepare ourselves when this happens...why? Because it will happen again! Here's my list of things to have!
1. Have some type of lithium battery bank (have more than one handy)and have it fully charged for your mobile devices and handheld devices.
2. Get a portable lithium battery charger with a couple of outlets on it similar to a power bank. There pretty inexpensive on Amazon. I'd get a couple of them if you have a big family. If you can afford a bigger one get one that can you plug your fridge and microwave.
3. A small to medium size portable A/C unit they have some that can be for bedrooms or small rooms. Cheap on Amazon as well. Small fans will help they can be plugged into the battery chargers.
4. Of course plenty of food non-perishables and water don't wait till the last minute to have the bare necessities. A couple of ice chests with plenty of ice. Yes we are all busy and life happens sometimes, but keep an eye on the news hurricanes and storms always change directions. Even if it's not a direct hit the outer bands can still do some damage.
5. Last but not least a gas powered generator they come in all different sizes some are affordable of course the beefier ones can supply a whole house. If you live in an apartment get a small portable one with several electric outlets. Fairly cheap on Amazon or your local hardware store. Have some gas stored for the long haul.
I know there's more that can be added to this list, but this my list. Hope it helps someone!
Helpful list. I did have 5 portable chargers I charged before the storm . I keep lots of cases of water . Nornally 1 loaf of bread in the deep freezer too and I had a gas can with gas. I did fill up my tank before hand (glad i did) gotta work on the generator / power source things i cant go thru this again
