Texas decided they didn’t want to be part of the United States grid and decided to do it on their own and have their own energy grid with their own regulations. This storm was a category 1. It shouldn’t have done this much damage. Florida didn’t even have these bad of a power outage and they were hit with a category 4. Please research more. It’s strictly because of RED STATE POLICIES.

    This confirms what I have been afraid of: the way modern homes are built makes the southern areas of the US a dangerous place to live in during extreme temperatures, at least without some kind of personal generator. Anytime conditions are bad enough that the modern infrastructure powering everything breaks down (cold or hot) it's a problem. Perhaps older built structures from before electricity was a thing still could be okay for habitation without AC but at this point evacuating wouldn't have been about surviving the storm (since a Cat 1 isn't that scary overall) just surviving the after.

    • @AlvinBrinson
      @AlvinBrinson Před měsícem +2

      A big problem is the way homes and apartments are insulated. They trap heat inside during the day. So even though the outdoors cools off (some) at night, the heat is trapped in the home all night so it remains significantly hotter indoors than out. Opening windows and doors doesn't help much because they aren't designed for ventilation.

    Believing that a for profit company cares about people is delusional. These companies care about profit, how much money they can make when times are good and how much money they can keep when times get tough. Texas's power is a free for all of opertunistic capitalism, sold to their citizens by politicians who get contributions (bribes) from these companies. It's not about people, it's about money. Power will come back on when it is economically advantageous for the company.... I live in Louisiana, I have seen it first hand, welcome to the club.....

      Umm… there’s plenty of private businesses that care about customers & people. Furthermore, your logic inverted presumes the government cares more… which is total nonsense. The reason why you have a single entity running the greater Houston power distribution system is because of bureaucracy limiting competition. That’s been the case for most utility services for decades. Comcast is utter trash too… but they have zero competition because government has created unbelievable barriers to entry that no startup can compete with.

    If no AC and no generator. For next thime get a portable battery solar generator, a small an energy efficient DC car fridge freezer, a fan and a bunch of large empty soda bottles. Put water in all the bottles and freeze them. When frozen put one bottle in front of a fan at a time. Should last about 2 hrs each. The solar generator will be enough to power the DC fridge and fan for a while. Not as cold as real AC but really helps.

If you have a serious health condition, then that's not what what I'm referring to, and those people need to be helped. But if you're healthy, go help one of your neighbors who is in that bad health situation and quit complaining. Now the (alleged) corruption issues with the power delivery company?
