Conversations with runners who have finished their first ultra or recently completed a new distance, celebrating the achievements of non-elite regular people who are extraordinary and inspiring.
Love the new series, Wes! Thanks for sharing your story. You inspire thousands of people; don’t ever forget that!
🙏🏼 thanks Trey
So many ultrarunners stories are similar! I was just like you, and overweight alcoholic, but just finished my 2nd 100 miler after quitting drinking and losing 80lbs. Thanks for sharing your story, hopefully you will inspire others with your journey
Congrats on finishing your second 100 miler Dan! That's Awesome! So many ultra runners had previous addictions, my feeling is the addictive personality lends itself to the demands of ultra running and training.
Thank you so much Wes for sharing your story. I’ve heard you share it a couple of times on the podcasts that you mentioned but in this video I feel like you really poured your heart into expanding on your success. Last year when I really began to dig into trail running/races I believe your channel was one of the first that I found that I could not stop watching. I don’t know if I will ever be able to have the success that you have, but at 37 years old, I hope I can at least get close. Thank you!
Thank you Jason I'm happy you got into trail running and I hope you are blessed with incredible experiences like I have been.
I can’t even imagine having the support you have!😊 I have done a couple of 50ks and had a DNF on a 50miler. It is the only time I haven’t been able to complete a distance. I have been trying to get back to the runner I was when I first started in 2016. I have my sights on a 50miler this Spring😬 Thank you for sharing I love hearing people’s story. You just get used to seeing runner friends or people you watch on CZcams and you never really think about how they got there!
I have been blessed with very strong and loving support! Thanks for watching I'm glad you found it interesting. Good luck to you in your next 50 miler!
It's always great to rediscover things that you loved as a child and either forgot about or let slip away as you journey through adulthood. It's like "ah, that's right, this is who I really am". Life is very interesting that way in that it seems like a constant game of self discovery as you grow and change.
Very true. 🙌🏼
Thank you for your story, Wes! You're an important inspiration to me venturing into ultras myself. Didn't think I could possibly do it but watching your videos has really helped. I'm not fast by any means but happy to be a mid-to-back-of-the-pack. Ultras are cool but you're one really cool dude, mister! Keep up the good work!
Right on Jacob. I’m happy you got some confidence from my experience. 🙌🏼
I love this!! Thank you so much for sharing your story. Looking forward to seeing more of this series.
I am excited to share the conversations I’ve been having, and continue making more. This has been fun.
Thank you for sharing Wes! You are a massive inspiration.
🙌🏼 thank you!
What a fantastic video! This was the first time I heard your story and a number of things were very relatable, especially just being a regular person. Thanks for taking us along the journey.
Thank you Patrick!
Thanks so much for sharing your story Wes! I am so grateful for all the work you put into your channel. I have learnt so much from you and find your videos a real source of encouragement and inspiration. Congratulations on everything you have achieved so far and here’s to many more ultra adventures 🙌
Thank you for your support! 🙌🏼
Wes, what an amazing kick of to this new series. Kudos to you. I am looking forward to future videos to come. Yes, we can all do bodacious and awe inspiring things. We just have to put one foot in front of the other. 🎯
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the rest of the series!
Cool footage from your life, Wes. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. As you know I have a loved one in the recovery process from drugs, particularly fentanyl, methamphetamine, and other opioids. It's been a scary and exhausting journey at times, especially witnessing them overdose a couple times. Thankfully they too have found their way into a more helpful lifestyle. They are doing a Spartan Sprint with me in Nov. Go figure. Thank you for all you do to support and inspire those of us newbies .🏃♀️➡️🌞
How fun that you're doing a Spartan together! The situation sounds tough, though, I wish you both the best.
Great stuff Wes, great to hear your origin story, I see many parallels with my own ultra running journey
Thanks for checking it out!
This is awesome Wes! I’m preparing for my first 50 miler on July 27th and this couldn’t have come at a better time. Super motivating and inspiring! Thank you for what you do and the content you create. 😊
Thanks Chris! Happy to hear it. Good luck at your first 50M! Where are you running?
@@wplate Thank you Wes. I’m running the White River 50. I love running in that area near Mt. Rainier and I’ve been so impressed with folks who have run it before that I thought it would be a great way to “go big” for my first one (hopefully not “too big” that I’m scarred from trying another one) 🙂
@@chrisdavis8305oh nice! That was my first 50 miler. It is a beautiful area. Excited for you!
Fantastic content idea, looking forward to all the great stories!
I have really enjoyed the project and I'm excited to share the conversations with you!
Thanks to new youtube algoritm, i know much more about ultra than i have to) And after finishing my first marathon i started to look more into one of this bad boys! For that, i salute you Wes!
There are many fun adventures out there, I hope you find one that really speaks to you.
Love this. Your videos are what inspired me to try my 1st 200 last year at Bigfoot. Thanks for all you're doing
That's cool! I'm so happy I helped steer you to that adventure! Bigfoot is a big one, it really chews you up.
You just shared what it means to be a genuine human being that’s moving forward to your own definition of greatness, Wes. Congratulations. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your journey.
Thank you, Tony, for the thoughtful comment. ❤️
Thank you for sharing your experience Wes, this is very inspiring! 🙌🏼🥹
Thanks for watching Laurencio!
Awesome series Wes! Keep up the great work with the channel!
Thank you Calvin!
I enjoyed your video and hearing about your journey! Some of your comments, at the end especially, were very thought provoking for me. Running really is an amazing sport and has done so much for me -- I am a little surprised sometimes that people won't even try it! Looking forward to this series!
Hi Becky! Thanks for watching. I thought about you during recording of a future episode when a runner from North Dakota was telling me about the Maah Dahh Hey run. That episode will be out next month.
Great stuff Wes! I thoroughly enjoyed this, thanks so much for sharing your story. I've learned a lot and taken a lot of inspiration from you!
Thank you for watching. 🙌🏼
You are an inspiration and I hope I meet you someday!
Thank you Daniel!
This is awesome Wes, thank you 🙏
Thank you Chelsea!
Thanks for sharing your journey! I’m still trying to finish my first 100 miler, I have Fat Dog 120 in a few weeks. I’m crewing/pacing a friend at Divide 200, so I might see you there!
Good luck at Fat Dog! Hope to meet you at Divide!
Thanks for sharing your story, Wes! Your MOAB video was the reason why I started running a year ago. I just finished my first 50k, signed up for 2 more this year, aiming at finishing my first 100k end of the year! Your authenticity in your videos really helped me to find a way out of being overweight and into this awesome world of trail running and in general a healthy lifestyle. Again, thanks for being such an inspiration to so many of us!!! All the best! (By the way, this is my first ever comment on a video, but you deserve it)
Thank you, Ben, for the comment! Congrats on finishing your first 50K, and I'm stoked you're working on another distance! Will you join me for an episode of Ultra Origins? These are the stories I'm after! email me at wes at plate dot net Thank you!
What an inspiring vlog, alcohols loss is the running communities gain, people like yourself (humble, honest and caring) are the building bricks of true sportsmanship x
I totally can relate to learning as you go... It is a lot to take in.. Fuelling and correct training but the feeling when it comes together is 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I agree, running echos life... Its problem solving, it's quick thinking and yet it's also mindful and mindless, it's hypnotic and soothing yet exhilarating, it's joyous to the point of joy tears yet painful to the point of desperate tears, it moulds us and teaches us to meet ourselves on the way up and on the way down... Its the missing link for many of us x
What a journey you've had Wes! I could feel the emotion as you relived it.I now understand why your videos are so finely edited. Well done, Sir! I look forward to watching the whole series.
Thanks for watching. I’m really excited about the series, glad you are too!
Thank you for sharing your phenomenal journey Wes and your current relationship with ultra running is amazing to hear about as well. I look so very forward to more in this series and can't wait to meet you in person at The Divide this year. 🎉👏🏼🏃🏻♂️
Thanks Chris! I look forward to meeting you in September.
Enjoyed the video and shared experience
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing. Moab 240 has your 2019 video on their website by the way. So people considering the race are likely going to watch it.
It was nice of them to add that. That video is special!
Really enjoyed this Wes!
Thank you Jason! 🙌🏼
Great start with this content.
Thank you Chris!
hey how do you print out the big maps?
I create PDFs from Caltopo and have them printed at a blueprint shop. Impressively inexpensive.
