Went out this past weekend to take advantage of the nice weather to collect some isopods so I can start some breeding colonies. Instagram: @dailyentomologist
Hey how are you? Itchy bug buddy Roy again, I know this isn't actually the right CZcams podcast did I was watching before with a butterfly softening and all relaxing rather, but I just wanted you to know that the other day when you taught how to relax butterflies and moths that tonight I use that method to relax a tiny tiny butterfly, very tiny! And it seems to be working very well so I just wanted you to know that it actually somebody did take your advice and actually tried it and it does work without a doubt! Thank you again your bug buddy Roy!
That one you found at 11:10-11:15 with the white V pattern is very cool. Any idea what the temperature was that day? It's in the mid 40s locally. I just discovered isopod colonies as a hobby and I'm dying to go search and catch some!!!!
@@gyomeihimejima3982 lol I went all in on the breeding critters for a side hustle. Now I'm a local supplier lol. I believe I have 34 colonies ccurrently. Plus an aquatic sowbug colony, 6 slug colonies, 4 snail colonies, 6 springtail colonies, 5 beetle colonies, and aquatic breeding tanks for... aquatic diving beetles, water boatmen, Crayfish, Minnows, darter fish, white sucker fish, blacknose dace, and comet goldfish!😁 Oh and 4 aquatic snail colonies lol Plus 24 colonies of feeder insects and cleaner crew insects and inverts.
@@TylerLarbes awesome as hell dude. always love asking old comments how many bins they have nowadays LMFAO always get some insane answers, i didnt expect your reply to be 34+ thats insane
Lol ikr!! I did 5hrs research per day for 90days, then jumped in!! Its crazy to find something so strange to be the thing you love to do!!! i am even releasing a new morph soon! 9months of selective breeding and adjustments for... Porcellio Scaber- Tangerine Black/Dark Grey Scabers with Bright Orange Antenna, face, and a random mix of Orange & Blacks legs! Great idea to reply to old comments lol
@@TylerLarbes thats dope as hell ??? do you have a website or something you use to sell with? i'd honestly be interested in buying (if youre in the US)
The ones with yellow flecks are definitely Armadillidium vulgare. There is plenty of variation in the species and they can have gold markings. Granulatum are typically a lighter grey and are rougher/have bumps
23:21 In this scene, the quick moving isopod on the bark which is flat and has the protruding uropods looks like a Porcellio laevis. They usually outcompete the regular roly polies (Armadillidium vulgare) so I would recommend removing them.
What part of the country are you in? What state? I see a lot of Aspen leaves, makes me think Colorado? How are you finding so many species in such a small area??

Waw a rolle polli strait away well done good spot 🤟🏻wish I was there too lol 😆
The ones with gold dots are Armadillidium granulatum most likely
I have a culture of them most look exactly like a. vulgare it’s very hard to see the bumps that granulatum are supposed to have

i love isopods
The other is porcellio scaber wild type those as well as lava and calico are all over America for some reason
14:42 if I lifted a rock and saw a centerpede of that species I would get scared and back off
I’ve been stung by one not that bad
pro tip : watch movies at Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching lots of of movies these days.
@Jayce Jaime yea, I've been using Flixzone} for since december myself :D

I agree
Thank you for sharing.
You did good. Thank you.

Armadillidiums!!!!! My favourites!
A inexpensive investment in a "Dead Kitten" microphone cover would be well worth it.
What part of the country are you in? What state? I see a lot of Aspen leaves, makes me think Colorado?
How are you finding so many species in such a small area??
What do they eat? Why do they exist? What is their lifespan? How do they procreate? Are they preyed upon?
Whoa.. whoa.. Easy
1. Rotting matter
2. Clean up crew
3. About a year
4. Young are held in Marsupium until they’re old enough
5. *Y æ s*
That intro is god damn epic man! Goosebu, mps
21:30 This has a striking resemblance to a morph of Porcellionides PruinoSUS, called “Powder Blue”. Or it could be Porcellio Laevis.
its texture makes it look like some kinda porcellionides
Looks like some sort of porcellionides. I have a wild caught colony of Porcellio laevis and these are defiantly not P. laevis
Subbed great channel 🙏🏻🤟🏻
Great video. Nice finds. What area did you find these? Thanks for sharing.
These were found in northern Colorado
I have those same shoes.
i made a trap for em in ma garden i have some huge ones
Third is also scaber
Shakey
You're just collecting insect
they're actually crustaceans
