  • The volume of surgery’s undertaken by doctors and within medical faculties reflect the outcome of surgery.
In an American study comparing Low, Intermediate and High surgical volume centres done by Francisco Schlottmann. He found the associated costs and the complication rates were larger in intermediate and low compared to the high volume centres
If you’re considering surgery we suggest that you ask your surgeon how many procedures they perform each year and if they record postoperative outcome data. If they don’t or the volumes are low- think again.

Sometimes surgery is the only option and in my case it's cured me from chronic reflux. I am so glad to be rid of the medications I was taking on a daily basis.

Be good if every other option was looked at before surgery is advised and then paid for.

Absolutely! Too many patients are offered surgery before exploring all the other options first (particularly in the private sector), normally leading to poor outcomes and unnecessary risks/costs.

@@Refluxuk yeah me.. although all my tests showed reflux(aparantly) 2 years since surgery I’ve had to deal with suspected sibo, seems it wasn’t. And then low stomach acid and vit B12 deficiency, seems it is. Had these been checked in the first place it could have saved me £14k and time off work. Not to mention invasive surgery.

@@40mosher I'm trying to understand your comment. What are you saying is the significance of your SIBO, low stomach acid, and B12 deficiency?

@@AngusTatchell no. My sibo could have been due to low stomach acid and that probably lead to low b12. Which is a vicious circle.
