In this video we walk step by step through the process of making the crankcase and it's backplate for a small engine to power a remote controlled airplane.
In future videos we will make all of the rest of the parts, and once we have a running engine then it will be time to break out the box of balsa wood, and build an airplane to fly it on!

Great job. Nice to see another Model I.C. Engineer using the Sherline equipment. (M.I.C.E.) the international fraternity of model internal combustion engineers! 👍

I'm loving this, having got a Myford ML10 with milling attachment and a load of worn out/broken model airplane engines. Time to start learning and this is a welcome inspiration.

Very nice project. I’m planning to build engines myself. More like steam and stationary engines, but also other engines. Maybe also something like this.

I built one of these in votech machine shop, circa 1983. It used a mixture of diesel and starting fluid, or model airplane fuel.

yeah again! love your video! I always wanted a sherline late, but then I look at my shot and see my Sanches Blanes and my mini 7x10 Chinese late and quit wanting it... The Mills 1.3 scalled down by .8 is a good way to get a mills .75, small enough for your lathe. Cheers from Mexico

Thanks! the sherline is unbeatable for the really small work, you'll see the 1.2mm screws i made for the carburetor once we get there in the series. i've never heard of Sanches Blanes, i had to look them up, they look nice! my next project i'm thinking of making the "Gordon Nano" 0.1cc diesel.
