That "death kiss" Ventress gave Colt still surprises me by how graphic it is.
The intensity of the combat combined with the dynamic camera work and heart stabbing loss, makes this episode one of my favorites to rewatch. RIP 99, truly a hero to his brothers.

Ah, 99. As brave and heroic as any of his brothers. He will be missed, and his brothers will carry his legacy forward. More on that another time, though.
Such a strong episode for sure. I love how this show turns the faceless clone army from the films into individuals who, while starting from the same exact point, vary hugely based on their own different experiences. Giving them emotions and personalities as well as a strong commitment and loyalty to their friends, their home, and each other.
Just to fill in a little detail about the ARC Troopers - ARC stands for Advanced Recon Commando, and ARC troopers, as you can see here, were hand picked soldiers from the Grand Army of the Republic who showed genuine distinction on the battlefield. They received additional training, as well as augmented armour with extra equipment and sensors. You can typically recognise them by the big pauldrons (similar to what Rex wears) and the Kama (the skirt -like armour piece).
7:21 This moment was so graphic for a "kids" show. In fact it was so dark that Cartoon Network cut it out from the re-runs of this episode.

ARC troopers, or Advanced Recon Commandos, were elite clone soldiers often sent on more difficult missions that most other clones wouldnt be able to do as well. ARC troopers have extra gear and unique helmets to distinguish them from regular clones. There was an ARC trooper earlier in the episode who died after telling 99 he didnt belong in the middle of the battle, if you remember what he looked like.
Wow, REALLY loving these 'The Clone Wars' reactions!!! There's another official Star Wars cartoon that is a little lesser known but still just as amazing, if not more, than this show - similar name so people get confused sometimes, it's called "Star Wars: Clone Wars" (there is no "The"). This is a cartoon of what transpired during the clone wars in episodic form, however, each episode is only a few minutes long. There is no copyright on it, so it's literally all on youtube. Because the episodes are short, people have just put all the episodes into like an hour long video of all of them together. The link below is volume 1. Again, this is an official star wars cartoon developed by Gennedy Tartakovsky in 2003, the mastermind behind Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack...etc, so it's in that same style. Yes! Love it! More clones wars!❤️ the clone rocket launcher shot is one of my favs as is the science where the clone grabs the DNA before Ventress can take it. And seeing Anakins loyalty to the clones
I don’t think I ever realized Ventress isn’t in any S2 episodes! Mentioned in one but that’s it!
I mean…force choke isn’t exactly a difficult move. Just applying pressure. And Ventress did it before, in the movie.

Imagine watching this in airing order. Getting introduced to 99 then losing him the very next episode. And they both aired on the same night
No clones would be old enough at this point to look like 99, who isn’t even old, just “defective.” It’s only been 11 years since they were commissioned, so they’d look to be in their 20s, as most adult clones do. Rex and Cody are among the oldest.

Epic invasion! The death of 99! The Dominoes get promoted! Ventress at her sultriest!
The only thing that mars this explosive installment is its egregious MISPLACEMENT IN THE CHRONOLOGY! The separation of "Rookies" (Season 1, Episode 5) and "ARC Troopers" (Season 3, Episode 2) is utterly baffling and the most obvious gaffe in the official order. The two are clearly paired as a Duology about the Invasion of Kamino. The prologue refers to the events on Rishi as if recapping the prior episode, Grievous is communicating with a Kamino-embedded Ventress in both episodes and the level of difficulty of the Separatist offense has increased due to losing the element of surprise which the foiled Rishi mission cost them. The Republic fleet rushes to blockade Kamino before Grievous' fleet arrives having intercepted his transmission to Ventress that he is still committed to the plan despite the increase in danger. I prefer to place this pair of episodes at the start of Season 2 to open the season with a bang and to ensure that Season 2 has a Domino story which it would otherwise lack.
The RETURN of the velvety-voiced Togruta Master SHAAK TI played by the honey-throated TASIA VALENZA. She was first seen in live-action during the Geonosis arena battle in "Attack of the Clones" and she was last seen in the first Domino episode, "Clone Cadets" (Season 3, Episode 1), overseeing the clones' training. She is the Jedi Council member assigned to Kamino and is a mature female of Ahsoka's species indicated by the longer head-tails. In Legends, she was a fan favorite who met with three different fates until "Clone Wars" settled on the canonical one. In the non-canonical 2003 micro-series, she engages in a breathless duel with Grievous across Coruscant while protecting Palpatine from abduction!
Love the TEAMWORK between Rex, Cody, Fives and Echo, the young cadets and old 99.
The young cadets are again voiced by young Boba Fett, DANIEL LOGAN. Although similar, these were not the same cadets from "Death Trap" (Season 2, Episode 20).
Although heavily telegraphed, 99's DEATH is affecting because he met his end doing what had been denied him in life. The graduation medal gifted to him by Hevy as a token of brotherhood becomes 99's posthumous emblem of honor.
FIVES and ECHO, the sole survivors of Domino Squad, get a field promotion by Rex and Cody to ARC Trooper status. The acronym means Advanced Reconnaissance Commando.
Ventress' DEATH-KISS of Commander Colt was removed from Cartoon Network but restored to its wickedly titillating glory for Netflix and all subsequent platforms!
My favorite VENTRESS moment in the series is when Grievous grips her by the arm to gallantly offer protection but, rather than recoil, flinch or protest, she glides her slender fingers about his metal mandible and seductively purrs, "My dear General, there's nothing you have that I could want." Grievous is left agog eating his heart out that he has shed his flesh! It's a potent instance of a femme fatale reveling in her feminine allure.
OBI-WAN's underwater ascent first by submersible, then by lifepod, then exposed to the depths is an alarming sequence he almost doesn't survive!
ANAKIN and GRIEVOUS are kept apart again as they cannot meet until "Revenge of the Sith".
About the Ventress thing I do find it funny that in her attempt to be self sufficient Ventress failed her mission
She lost the Jango DNA because she got outnumbered by clones, which wouldn't have happened had she accepted Grievous' offer for a droid batallion, and even then he came over and saved her from being executed
In the end her inferiority complex doomed the mission

Its funny how Grievous and Anakin miss just by an inch in this episode, because they couldnt have them meet since his line in revenge of the sith suggests he never saw him before.
This episode is one of the most liked ones of the third season

You know I prefer Rebels to Clone Wars overall, however it never quite reached the highest highs like this episode, Clone Wars got to. There are 4 or 5 absolute insanely good and well produced episodes in amongst the brilliant arcs in this show; and episodes like ARC Troopers here is one. It has the lot, real stakes, great characters, fantastic setpieces, brilliant action scenes, and heart, with the clones defending their homeworld from destruction. And 99 gets a heroes death like he would have wanted.

I know this is an old video but I don’t take sides in this war, Dooku and Grievous both have reasonable reasons to have this conflict and the Jedi and clones also do. Grievous especially is understandable with his tragic backstory.
Just FYI the current canon differs a bit
Grievous was still a Kaleesh warlord and a hero to his people, I think the Yam'Ri war still happened as well the jedi's intervention
However the shuttle sabotage never happened (thank god too that was an awful plot point), instead Grievous CHOSE to slowly become a cyborg, giving up his flesh in order to stand a fair chance against the supernatural force users he vowed to kill
@@aitipsea3909 Can’t say I do or don’t like that plot point I can understand Dooku sabotaging the shuttle to serve his purpose but I can also understand Grievous going after the Jedi and republic out of his own free will. Either way the Jedi were the villains in that situation and they are responsible for Grievous during the clone wars. Just shows the Jedi are capable of doing evil.
@@bobafett1313 Oh for sure, they became stagnant and arrogant while the sith evolved, and so they took actions that lead to their own destruction
Take The Citadel for example: a maximum security prison on Lola Sayu where Evan Piel died. A lot of people ignore that this horrible place was actually built by the jedi and the Republic to imprison other jedi, the Separatists simply took over the whole thing because of the Republic's neglect of the outer rim for so many years
