  • Pentasa Mesalazine as a treatment for Crohn's disease. This is the first medication that is often prescribed to new patients with Crohn's disease as it generally has fewer side effects than some of the other treatments out there. Most of the comments I've gotten on my previous videos have asked about Pentasa Mesalazine to treat Crohn's disease, and it seems people are naturally concerned especially if they have just been diagnosed.

Hey there! I was just diagnosed with Crohn’s about a month ago. I recognize that Crohn’s disease content is probably pretty “niche,” so I really appreciate you taking the time to make these videos. My docs started me on mesalazine (or mesalamine, as it’s known where I’m at) about two weeks ago. I was nervous when I saw the mile-long list of potential side effects, so this video was encouraging to me. My docs have explained that the damage in my body is extensive and I’ll likely need to transition to stronger meds in the coming months. Wish me luck!

Hey Julia! Thanks for your comment, and sorry to hear about your diagnosis. So glad to hear you got something out of this video, as you said it’s quite niche and there’s not much out there, but felt like there’s so many people who want to learn more about it. Best of luck in your journey, and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask! Cheers :)

As far as I know, mesalazine is very safe, it's like aspirin

2 weeks late to comment but anyway, I'm a 50 year old male and diagnosed with crohns 15 years ago and under went a double bowel resection 13 years ago.
I've taken No meds for 10 years exercise/run daily and have had limited flare ups throughout the years but yes the toilet and i spend alot of time together throughout the year.
Diet wise I have no special diet except I do not eat red meat that's just because I feel it makes a difference with my crohns not medically told to stop though also im a none drinker/smoker ( 6'1" - 90 kg's )
Just to let people know and new owners of the disease its not all doom and gloom.
    All the best 👍

Thanks for sharing your story! Seems like you have a lot more experience than I do…but so glad you mentioned that it’s not all doom and gloom, there’s always positives to draw out of this. Diet is so important isn’t it, it’s often sadly neglected by patients and doctors alike

@@benjaymun I probably could trace my crohns back to when I was a teenager I do remember having symptoms back then but like I said I was diagnosed 15 years ago.
So damage was done already, thats why I had my operation 2 years after first diagnosed with it I guess as I was on alot of the meds you mentioned so by no means telling people to throw away medication.

Ahh I see now! Of course, meds are defs so important especially in those first 5 years to keep everything under control and to really buy some extra time. Hope you're doing well these days though!

First of all, you look great! Hope that you feel great too. My 13 years old son has the same treatment that you had Medrol(steroid) + Salofalk (Pentasa brother) and started 3-4 days ago with Imuran. Oance again when I see you I see my son little bit older and a hope rise in my soul. Hope Imuran will not harm him! Glad to see you! All the best for you and your family!

Ah thank you, that’s very kind! Wishing all the best to your son, he may be sick now but sounds like he has very good treatment so no need to worry! Eventually he will be healthy once again. Cheers!

I started with mesa enemas. The doctors said I had UC then they said I had Crohn’s. either way the enemas weren’t reaching the higher inflammation in colon. It wasn’t an effective drug for me at all. Neither were the infusions tho. Or supplements with functional doctors. It just feels like it’s something I have to tolerate 😅😢

Hey a bit unrelated to this video.. but are you still gluten free? And any updates on your go to Alcoholic drinks for Crohn's?

    • @benjaymun
      @benjaymun  Před rokem +2

Hey! I am yes, but I’m far less strict these days. I actually drink waay more beer than I should but it doesn’t really give me many issues any more. I’d recommend gluten free beers, they’re getting quite good. Or vodka soda is still the best possible thing in my opinion

I don’t have a diet chart sorry! Foods that aren’t processed, have seeds or grains, or anything spicy :)

Chicken boiled, bananas, rice, sourdough bread, mandarins oranges ( not oranges) eggs, vegan protein powder,,natural peanut butter….small Amt of instant oatmeal ( no spicy, no dairy, no red meat, no raw veggies) I have no symptoms when I eat that way, without a flare up I can handle small amounts of cantaloupe and pineapple ) iv been able to control symptoms full by following strict BRAT diet, you can also google LowFoMAP diet that might help you too. This is what has personally worked for me, not medical advice. Everyone is different but this has helped me a lot ( I take vitamins too )
