  • This is my Crohns disease diet. With Crohns disease, there are lot's of different foods that you may or not be able to handle. In this video I will be sharing what food choices work and don't work for me, to hopefully give you some guidance on what you could look into. These are just my own experiences, so what works for me might not work for you, so be careful. I will also be talking about drink choices, as they are a massive factor in the modern diet. Crohns disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestines, especially the colon and ileum, associated with ulcers and fistulae - according to the Oxford dictionary. I hope this video is useful to you if you have Crohns disease, or maybe you know someone who has Crohns disease and you want to know a little more about it.

    I'd say you highlighted the information beautifully. It's definitely a trial-error self-experimentations. I am a clinical dietitian suffering from Crohn's disease for more than 5 years now. I'm also a clinical psychologist, and an MD student in my 3rd year. I have dedicated my time and passion to learn more and hopefully help myself and others when it comes to disease management. It's not an easy journey, and having support and an open optimistic mindset definitely helps. Thank you for the wonderful video

      Dairy and soy are difficult to digest for many and are a major allergens.

    I was diagnosed with Crohn's in late January. I know that some foods are harder on me than others. I've asked for help from a nutritionist, but that hasn't come yet. I'm still stumbling, but the mention of undigested foods hit home. Before I was diagnosed, I was living on sushi and raw veggies. I crave so many of the foods that you've described as no go. I'll have to change my diet.
    I'm learning that some food advice I've been getting from non-Crohn's friends is armful. Fibre made me feel worse.

      Exactly! Best to find exactly what works for you and get advice from people who have lived through it...non-crohns friends will never understand (and its not their fault per se) so best to just ignore them

    Processed foods are high in soy derivatives, which is a major allergen. Curry chicken has dairy normally and regular beans are diffcult to digest because they are not a complete protein. Need to eat beans with bread or rice to make them more easy to digest. Pita breads often are allergy friendly. Seeds and nuts that have been roasted in store are often roasted with hydrogenated oils which contain mono and diglcyerides to preserve the oil and keep it shelf stable. Soda is not great for your digestive system because of the acid. Bottled spice blends used to cook often contain soy preservatives. Better to mix your own.

    I was diagnosed with Crohn's 30 years ago so I definitely stay away from processed foods, fast food, cheese, milk, caffeine, carbonated water and sugar. I have always read online to stay away from anything spicy, but the funny thing is that Frank's hot sauce and mustard doesn't bother me at all. I tried the carnivore diet when I discovered CZcams's Dr. Ken Berry back in March. In one of his video's he mentioned that he had a lot of subscribers with Crohn's that did well on it. I liked it because I love meat and most mornings I would have steak and shrimp with eggs, but unfortunately after about a months, I had to get off of it because it was really starting to cause problems within 30 minutes of eating. I will still eat a ribeye steak occasionally but when I do, I will only eat a small 4 oz piece. The only dairy that I consume daily is just 1/2 cup of plain whole fat Greek yogurt that I will put in a strawberry protein smoothie or a citrus green protein smoothie. I found their recipes on a channel on CZcams, as a healthy meal replacement option. I have the strawberry smoothie for breakfast and then the green smoothie for dinner if I don't have air fried chicken with non starchy vegetables or homemade turkey chili. I tried eating eggs with tomatoes and avocado every morning for breakfast, but I just can't stand the taste of eggs no matter what I added to them. I don't mind occasional deviled eggs but I can't eat them all of the time.

I feel pain sometimes but i think its more than bearable. Im on Ozanimod, prednislone(will end its course in 5 days(very happy about that!) and Pentasa. Thanx for sharing!

    I noticed you are consuming emulsifiers and quite a lot of saturated fat. Have you checked the studies on their effect on crohn's? Pretty scary stuff. And what about the amount of vegetables? I'm pretty proud of my 0.5kg of veg per day (peeled and cooked). It works wonders for my gut.

    • @benjaymun
      @benjaymun  Před rokem +2

      Yes are right! This video is a few years old so I wasn’t very across all that when I was 21. These days I’m far more conscious especially with sweeteners. Oooh that’s good! What kinda veggies do you have?

    • @viquta701
      @viquta701 Před rokem +3

      @@benjaymun That's good that you are even better with the diet! My (cooked only) vegetables include: cauly flower, carrots, (sometimes) broccoli, zuccini, spinach, sweet potato (is that a veg?), beet root and some others i think. I kind of just either put 1-2 types in with the rice and cook them together, or air-fry them (delicious!).
      I'm diagnosed only a month ago (still in the flare) and on prednisone, they'll start me on infliximab soonish so hopefully by then I can have a more varied diet. I tried lentils but damn... never having lentils during a flare again hahahah
