  • Sky News has spoken to one of the first asylum seekers taken to a detention centre after the Rwanda plan became law.
    He claims he was detained after turning up for his fortnightly appointment with the Home Office.

      @@helendancelot I know a couple of weeks ago one of the guys on the barge in Portland said the same thing. He shouldn't have to stay there all he wanted was asylum. Not only that he didn't like the food and the wi-fi there was terrible. He was particularly concerned about the wifi because he he needed to keep in touch with his family in French West Africa so they knew how he was going on.

      ...140,000+ Hong Kongers have entered the country since 2021 with £3,000,000 of public funds pledged to help Hong Kong families.
      170,000 international students, mainly from India and China have entered the UK all putting a strain on the rental market and encouraging property developers to build luxury student accommodation rather than affordable housing.
      Legal migration is far more of a problem than illegal immigration.

I know an asylum seeker here, who was in germany for 21 years, not allowed to work, and just kept in limbo in massive apparement buildings sharing with loads of others- it's no life. so he sought a country where he could get approved, and not just delayed till he dies.

      In the small print of the deal, it says Rwanda can send 1 person to the UK for every 1 person we send, so it will make no difference. If anything, it'll be worse, since they can send their mentally ill or criminals. Also, UK tax payers have to pay for housing, food etc for 5 years even when they're in Rwanda and if they commit any crimes, they'll be sent back to the UK. It's an awful deal for the UK

    He came to a country illegally - without permission and he’s given a free food, heating, accommodation and money while here - and was found not to qualify as a refugee.     Why should the UK have to agree to keep total strangers who we know nothing about? We are a small country but a magnet. These people have move through several "safe" countries to get here why not claim asylum legitimately in the "safe" country? There is nothing to stop them making a life there and even emigrating to the UK bringing their skills with them?

    Culturally speaking, Rwanda will be far easier for them to integrate into. I'm not sure what the issue with sending them to Africa is. I do see an issue with large swathes of Muslims being in the UK, as our cultures are like oil and water, chalk and cheese. 🇬🇧

    This is the best move,I'm married here I spent about 10 thousand pounds for visas to be able to leave here and other people can have it so easy it's not fair. First 2 year's visa I wasn't entitled to any public funds though my husband is English and I thought he had the right to marry who he wants it's so unfair.

    A friend of mine got deported from Australia. He was fine with it. He broke the law as his visa expired. That's it.

    We both couple working hard to support our family, paying bill, mortgage,my child's school lunch, medicine, and everything. But those asylum seekers don't need to work and get everything, it's not fair for hard working family.

      well, "get everything"... they get placed in places outside of their control, usually shared houses with peoplle they don't know, banned from working. So have no chance of getting car, fancy tvs all the luxuries normal UK working families enjoy.

    Why can't they chose to go to their country of origin or be returned if they don't meet the standard for seeking asylum , why Rawanda if they aren't from there.

      One reason is, if they are to be deported, they do not have to go back to their country of origin. They can make claims on different countries to accept them.

      They won't take no for answer. They just keep coming back and re-applying. Some of these people have already been refused more than once in several European countries. It's just a game, using up as many resources as possible until they get their own way.

      They do get that choice- their country of origin or Rwanda. But most (the genuine ones) will choose rwanda as it would not be safe to go to country of origin.

    The only reasons they don't want to go to Rwanda is because they won't get as many hand outs and won't get away with committing crimes like they do here.. They have the option of returning home..
