Gives me shivers too....the crowds that day in Belfast were unreliable tens of thousands along the entire route. Its without doubt the best homecoming parade any British regiment has got in modern conflicts. The support, atmosphere was truly amazing.... trust the Loyal people of Northern Ireland (Ulster) to rally for our troops ! BRITISH & PROUD
Comon boys your home now. The pride of Northern Ireland and the best of all of us. I've met some of you. I talked to some of you and i can say theres not a man or woman in that regiment who deserved sinn feinn on that day. It was you day. This is a testament to the spirit of the Northern Irish and to the strength of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. God Save the Queen. Faugh a Ballaugh.
I have watched many of these 'homecomings' across the U.K. - this one has the most warm welcome. Couldn't be anywhere but my own countrypeople in Northern Ireland
@TastyCake001 Yes there are lads from the Republic of Ireland in the Royal Irish Regiment and in many other Regiments of the British Army. Sadly some brave soldiers from southern Ireland have been lost serving in Afganistan and Iraq with the Royal Irish Regiment and the Irish Guards.
Pride of Britain, all British soldiers! My hat goes off to all of them, also to their parents, for giving birth to such remarkable people! Lots of love from Wales!
+HurricaneHD Initially it was the Royal Irish Rifles. In 1921 become the Royal Ulster Rifles. 1968 saw the formation of the Royal Irish Rangers than these combined with the UDR to form the Royal Irish Regiment.
Yes the Royal Irish Regiment is a British Regiment, the majority of its soldiers come from Northern Ireland, but it also has soldiers from Southern Ireland, Australia, South Africa, Fiji and other British Commonwealth countries.
I have heard, many times, that over a third of its members are from the Republic. I believe it. The Nationalist hate-mongers have lost their grip on the Republic and few Irish youth have time for their filth anymore. We were all united for 800 years. It was not always bad. And facts and reality have a way of flushing lies down the loo. No?
Great to see these guys coming home safely and getting a heroes welcome because that is what they are, and I am proud to fight along side u Yanks! Well done America you now have more troops in Afghanistan and Iraq than we do in our entire army!!!! 100,000!
bulletproof vests capable of protecting against rifle fire cannot practically be worn concealed. They require either steel or thick Kevlar plates to stop high velocity rifle bullets. It is heavy and is not designed to be covered by a 'blouse'.
Up the Irish! God loves the Irish I know! This is the kind of homecoming welcome ANY military unit would love! Only in Ireland would you hear the kind of cheers given! God Bless 'em! Semper Fidelis! Non sibi sed patriae! CWO4 USMCR [Ret] 17 February 1969 - 1 August 2004
T H I S is true / legitimate / terrific P R I D E ! Honest pride, real pride. Merit that stems from responsibility, honor and duty. Excellent. Many thanks for the video R888.
Late reply sorry but Irish regiments of the British army were always the most successful and been from the republic and a proud Irishman I still see that as something to be proud of and have no problem with people from the republic who keep up the tradition. If only extreme nationalist and unionist's would stop hijacking different parts of our heritage it would be much easier for people on all sides to look with pride on all parts of our culture because the British army was part of all our culture at some stage and still is to a degree and helped people from both traditions on the island escape poverty. The first Republicans in Ireland were protestants mostly from northern Ireland but that was mared by IRA violence. We shouldn't let a few bigots of both traditions put us off admiration for the good parts of all traditions here eventhough we ourselves aren't part of them all our ancestors at some stage in history were .
Gives my heart a lift to see that Ireland still remembers how to welcome and honor their heroes home. It's a lesson the Irish could teach us Yanks. Thank you for your support and for your sacrifice, Erin. Semper Fi. Vietnam 70-71
Used to be a minimum of 6 feet for the Guards. Have you see the 5' women wearing bear skins on parade? There has to be some Old Sweats spinning in their graves.
@LordWellington15 Sir, they are heroes because they enlist knowing they may never come home, very few jobs that you get paid for come with that possibility. They are willing to fight and defend the freedom we wll enjoy...respect for soldiers that do what I cannot.
Terry Turner The PSNI are wearing protection because of the history of Northern Ireland and the troubles. It's not unheard of actually quite common that the police will still get attacked by home made bombs or general anything that can be thrown. Now Northern Ireland is way more peaceful than It would have been from 1969 - 1998, Northern Ireland is making a very good turn over making it easer for the Protestant and Catholic communities to live in peace with each other but of course there is always a few that lash out both on the protestant and catholic side that make Belfast look like a war zone again.
@SHM1953 Mate, I have done my time here in Canada with the Loyal Edmonton Regiment. If what you are saying is correct, then wouldnt everybody be a hero? Every job has some level of danger.
Gives me shivers too....the crowds that day in Belfast were unreliable tens of thousands along the entire route.

The Irish wolfhounds are the mascot of the 69th New York regiment, which was started by Irish immigrants to the U.S. Now the 69th is multi-cultural.
They're brilliant, God bless.
Fantastic support for our armed forces , remarkable scenes from our Northern Ireland loyalist family . From a loyal Londoner.

They are Irish wolf hounds, the most famous Irish wolf hound mascot is Brian Boru of the Irish Gruards.
These Lads deserve this parade and much more Salute !
Good to see a Coldstream Guards CSM bringing up the rear, great reception from the crowd 👍🇬🇧
These reason they are wearing different colour berets is that they are different regiments and Corps, Irish Guards, Royal Irish Regiment, etc
I watched twice, and didn't see any colors, now I know why. Thank you.
wow what a WELCOME!

Definitely better as allies than enemies! The mascots must have enjoyed the day, not often they meet up!
That was some day, ears never recovered. Rangers lead the way.

The Irish Guards used to have a height standard, I don't know if its still in place.
Used to be a minimum of 6 feet for the Guards. Have you see the 5' women wearing bear skins on parade? There has to be some Old Sweats spinning in their graves.

Hmmm... dunno about 30,000 supporters; this figure came from the BBC so I reckon it should be doubled or trebled to get a more accurate number.
that one person at 1:00 with there arms out of beat, totally oblivious
Incroyable la ferveur des spectateurs si nous aussi de temps en temps on pourrait faire la même chose a nos soldats
@lunanjames They are British Irish
Just wondering ... why dp they need police proteciton?
