There are many Irish, even republicans in the South, who also still feel they are also British. Not politically but culturally. Just because one is a loyal and patriotic Irish citizen does not mean one denies history or hates their neighbours who share the British Isles with them! One can love both Ireland and her sisters. I would never concede one inch of Irish independence but I can still admire and respect the Queen and cherish the many good historical and present ties that bind us.

When does the 2d tune begin during this clip...at 1:33? Also, what rank or position is the man with came under his who appears a couple times near edge of screen at about 1:32?
I notice that the berets appear to be of both green and a more olive it brown color in the same regiment. Is that due to different roles, specialties or do my eyes deceive me? It may confuse us as to why given our history. Some of us English are aware of what our Government did in Ireland but when someone fights beside us & is killed there is a grieving mother somewhere & that we can understand.

Actually as an Irishman 'Mick' is used as an affectionate term towards the Irish guards. I think it's quite funny aswell!

A small force compared to the Irish who fought against fascism and the 10,000 German Jews who also fought in the British Army in WW2. This fight continues today.

soulofthenorth I think you will find its only a small percentage of Irishmen that claim to be British. Most from the loyalist community hate all things Irish. You most remember that our language, wolfhounds, shamrock, kilts, and songs belong to the actual Irish people....When the Guards had a large IRISH content then it would be fair to use any of these but now i think its like 11 out of 400. So not really Irish.
